"Pharmaceutical Industry under the rules and regulations of WTO"

    Get PDF
The topic of the research paper is viz. the systematic study of the pharmaceutical industry of India which is threatened, due to the new controls brought by rules and regulations of the WTO region, especially regarding tariff policies, TRIPS (Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights), opening of Indian domestic market to foreign multinationals by adopting liberalization, maintenance of professional standards of business ethics, obtaining the world class quality approvals and accreditions for Indian pharmaceutical exports, adoption of 'product patents' in addition to 'process patents and restrictions on  unauthorised imitations etc. Till 1995 Indian Pharmaceutical industry was governed by IPL (Indian Patent Laws) and laws controlling the production and distribution practices. After getting the membership of the World Trade Organization, which has become the apex international permanent body for reorganising and smoothening the World Trade and for bringing ideal International order in the global trade ethics by making the necessary controls mandatory on the part of the member countries, Indian Pharma industry is facing new difficulties and challenge

Barbell back squat:How do resistance bands affect muscle activation and knee kinematics?

    Get PDF
ObjectivesThis study aimed to determine whether looped resistance bands affect knee kinematics and lower body muscle activation during the barbell back squat.MethodsTwenty-six healthy participants (13 female, 13 male) calculated their one repetition maximum (RM) prior to data collection. Each participant performed three squats at both 80% and 40% 1RM wearing a light resistance band, an extra-heavy resistance band and no resistance band.Vicon 3D motion analysis cameras were used to collect the kinematic data, and Delsys Trigno Lab wireless electromyography (EMG) system was used to measure vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and biceps femoris muscle activity. Peak knee flexion angle, peak knee valgus angle and maximum tibial rotation values were examined. Peak EMG values were also analysed after being normalised and expressed as a percentage of maximum voluntary contraction (MVC).ResultsGluteus maximus (GM) activity is significantly increased when a resistance band is used during squatting. However, squatting with a resistance band is detrimental to knee kinematics as it leads to an increase in knee valgus angle and maximum tibial rotation angle. A direct correlation is recorded between an increase in resistance and an increase in these two angles.ConclusionsSquatting with resistance bands is likely to increase the risk of knee injury. Coaches and clinicians who already implement this technique are advised to remove resistance band squats from training and rehabilitation programmes. Further research evaluating the long-term effects of using resistance bands during the barbell back squat should be considered

Stimulation of defective Gunn-rat Liver Uridine diphosphate Glucuronyltransferase activity in vitro by Alkyl ketones

    Get PDF
Addition of alkyl ketone (10mM) to Gunn-rat liver homogenates increased UDP-glucuronyltransferase activity towards 2-aminophenol by 10--20 fold, up to enhanced values of enzyme activity observed with similarly treated Wistar-rat liver homogenates. Alkyl ketones also activate the defective enzyme purified from Gunn-rat liver. This genetic deficiency of UDP-glucuronyltransferase activity is no longer apparent when assayed in the presence of alkyl ketones

Relationship Between Nutritional Status and Preeclampsia in West Bandung District

    Get PDF
Preeclampsia is a condition characterized by hypertension, proteinuria and edema which occurs during pregnancy. Several factors can lead to the onset of preeclampsia, one of which is nutritional status. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between nutritional status and the incidence of preeclampsia in West Bandung District in Indonesia. This was quantitative research with a case-control design. The sample included 159 people consisting of 53 cases and 106 controls. Data analysis involved univariate analysis with frequency distribution analysis, and bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test (α: 0.05 and CI: 95%). Secondary data were collected on the number of preeclampsia cases from mother card records and medical records from January - June 2021. The results showed that of the 53 respondents with preeclampsia, 31 (58.5%) were overweight, and this factor was shown to have a significant relationship with the incidence of preeclampsia (OR = 2.42; 95% CI = 1, 71-5.01; p value = 0.01). Therefore, a balanced nutritional intake is needed during pregnancy. Keywords: pregnant women, preeclampsia, nutritional statu

Dense steerable filter CNNs for exploiting rotational symmetry in histology images

    Get PDF
Histology images are inherently symmetric under rotation, where each orientation is equally as likely to appear. However, this rotational symmetry is not widely utilised as prior knowledge in modern Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), resulting in data hungry models that learn independent features at each orientation. Allowing CNNs to be rotation-equivariant removes the necessity to learn this set of transformations from the data and instead frees up model capacity, allowing more discriminative features to be learned. This reduction in the number of required parameters also reduces the risk of overfitting. In this paper, we propose Dense Steerable Filter CNNs (DSF-CNNs) that use group convolutions with multiple rotated copies of each filter in a densely connected framework. Each filter is defined as a linear combination of steerable basis filters, enabling exact rotation and decreasing the number of trainable parameters compared to standard filters. We also provide the first in-depth comparison of different rotation-equivariant CNNs for histology image analysis and demonstrate the advantage of encoding rotational symmetry into modern architectures. We show that DSF-CNNs achieve state-of-the-art performance, with significantly fewer parameters, when applied to three different tasks in the area of computational pathology: breast tumour classification, colon gland segmentation and multi-tissue nuclear segmentation
