Soliton Stability in Systems of Two Real Scalar Fields
In this paper we consider a class of systems of two coupled real scalar
fields in bidimensional spacetime, with the main motivation of studying
classical or linear stability of soliton solutions. Firstly, we present the
class of systems and comment on the topological profile of soliton solutions
one can find from the first-order equations that solve the equations of motion.
After doing that, we follow the standard approach to classical stability to
introduce the main steps one needs to obtain the spectra of Schr\"odinger
operators that appear in this class of systems. We consider a specific system,
from which we illustrate the general calculations and present some analytical
results. We also consider another system, more general, and we present another
investigation, that introduces new results and offers a comparison with the

Gauge Invariant Effective Potential for Abelian Maxwell-Chern-Simons Systems
We investigate the effective potential for Abelian Maxwell--Chern--Simons
systems. The calculations follow an alternate approach, recently proposed as a
gauge invariant formulation of the effective potential, constructed in terms of
a gauge invariant order parameter. We compare the results with another
investigation, obtained within a standard route of calculating the effective

Hidrogenionic potential (pH) of the attractant, trap density and control threshold for Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: tephritidae) on Hamlin oranges in São Paulo central region, Brazil
This study evaluated the effect of initial pH values of 4.5, 6.5 and 8.5 of the attractant
(protein bait) Milhocina® and borax (sodium borate) in the feld, on the capture of fruit flies in McPhail
traps, using 1, 2, 4 and 8 traps per hectare, in order to estimate control thresholds in a Hamlin orange grove
in the central region of the state of São Paulo. The most abundant fruit fly species was Ceratitis capitata,
comprising almost 99% of the fruit flies captured, of which 80% were females. The largest captures of C.
capitata were found in traps baited with Milhocina® and borax at pH 8.5. Captures per trap for the four
densities were similar, indicating that the population can be estimated with one trap per hectare in areas
with high populations. It was found positive relationships between captures of C. capitata and the number
of Hamlin oranges damaged, 2 and 3 weeks after capture. It was obtained equations that correlate captures
and damage levels which can be used to estimate control thresholds. The average loss caused in Hamlin
orange fruits by C. capitata was 2.5 tons per hectare or 7.5% of production.Esta pesquisa teve como objetivos: avaliar o efeito do pH inicial, 4.5; 6.5 e 8.5, do atrativo
proteico Milhocina® e bórax (tetraborato de sódio) na captura de moscas-das-frutas em armadilhas McPhail;
estudar densidades de armadilhas, 1; 2; 4 e 8 por hectare, para estimar níveis de controle em laranja cv.
Hamlin, na região central de São Paulo. A espécie predominante, com 99% das moscas-das-frutas capturadas,
foi Ceratitis capitata, sendo 80% de fêmeas. As maiores capturas de C. capitata ocorreram nas armadilhas
com Milhocina® e bórax em pH 8.5. As capturas, nas 4 densidades, foram semelhantes, indicando que a
população pode ser estimada com uma armadilha por hectare em áreas de altas populações. Houve relações
positivas entre capturas de C. capitata e o número de frutos danificados, 2 e 3 semanas após a captura. Assim,
foram obtidas equações que relacionam a captura e o dano, possibilitando estimar níveis de controle desse
inseto. As perdas médias causadas por C. capitata em laranja cv. Hamlin chegaram a 2,5 toneladas de frutos

A Remark on Lorentz Violation at Finite Temperature
We investigate the radiatively induced Chern-Simons-like term in
four-dimensional field theory at finite temperature. The Chern-Simons-like term
is temperature dependent and breaks the Lorentz and CPT symmetries. We find
that this term remains undetermined although it can be found unambiguously in

Caracterización de cepas de Bacillus thuringiensis berliner y actividad biológica hacia Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: noctuidae) y Anticarsia gemmatalis hübner (Lepidoptera: noctuidae).
RESUMEN: Se realizó la caracterización de nueve cepas cubanas de Bacillus thuringiensis según la morfología del cristal, la determinación del patrón de proteínas Cry y la actividad biológica frente a los insectos lepidópteros Spodoptera frugiperda y Anticarsia gemmatalis. Se observó la típica morfología bipiramidal en todas las cepas, y además la presencia de inclusiones cúbicas. El patrón de proteínas Cry obtenido correspondió con el de la cepa estándar internacional de B. thuringiensis var. kurstaki cepa HD1, en el que se observan dos bandas bien definidas correspondientes a la proteína Cry 1 (130 kDa) y Cry 2 (70 kDa). En la evaluación de la actividad biológica las cepas LBT 4 y LBT 7 causaron el 100% de mortalidad frente a S. frugiperda, mientras que las LBT 4, LBT 7, LBT 13 y LBT 47 provocaron el 100% de mortalidad para A. gemmatalis. abstract: This study describes the characterization of nine Cuban Bacillus thuringiensis strains based on crystal morphology, SDS polyacrylamide electrophoresis (PAGE) and insecticidal activity against Spodoptera frugiperda and Anticarsia gemmatalis. Ultrastructural analysis of parasporal bodies of the nine strains showed the typical bipyramidal crystal and cubic inclusion partially embedded in the middle of the bipyramidal crystal. The PAGE analysis showed two bands of 130 kDa and 70 kDa belongs to Cry 1 and Cry 2 protein present to HD1 standard strains B. thuringiensis var. kurstaki. Quantum equivalence between the self-dual and the Maxwell-Chern-Simons models nonlinearly coupled to U(1) scalar fields
The use of master actions to prove duality at quantum level becomes
cumbersome if one of the dual fields interacts nonlinearly with other fields.
This is the case of the theory considered here consisting of U(1) scalar fields
coupled to a self-dual field through a linear and a quadratic term in the
self-dual field. Integrating perturbatively over the scalar fields and deriving
effective actions for the self-dual and the gauge field we are able to
consistently neglect awkward extra terms generated via master action and
establish quantum duality up to cubic terms in the coupling constant. The
duality holds for the partition function and some correlation functions. The
absence of ghosts imposes restrictions on the coupling with the scalar fields.Comment: 13 pages, no figure
Photospheric and chromospheric magnetic activity of seismic solar analogs. Observational inputs on the solar/stellar connection from Kepler and Hermes
We identify a set of 18 solar analogs among the seismic sample of solar-like
stars observed by the Kepler satellite rotating between 10 and 40 days. This
set is constructed using the asteroseismic stellar properties derived using
either the global oscillation properties or the individual acoustic
frequencies. We measure the magnetic activity properties of these stars using
observations collected by the photometric Kepler satellite and by the
ground-based, high-resolution Hermes spectrograph mounted on the Mercator
telescope. The photospheric (Sph) and chromospheric (S index) magnetic activity
levels of these seismic solar analogs are estimated and compared in relation to
the solar activity. We show that the activity of the Sun is comparable to the
activity of the seismic solar analogs, within the maximum-to-minimum temporal
variations of the 11-year solar activity cycle 23. In agreement with previous
studies, the youngest stars and fastest rotators in our sample are actually the
most active. The activity of stars older than the Sun seems to not evolve much
with age. Furthermore, the comparison of the photospheric, Sph, with the
well-established chromospheric, S index, indicates that the Sph index can be
used to provide a suitable magnetic activity proxy which can be easily
estimated for a large number of stars from space photometric observations.Comment: Accepted for publication in A&
