Towards an Intelligent Workflow Designer based on the Reuse of Workflow Patterns
In order to perform process-aware information systems we need sophisticated methods and concepts for designing and modeling processes. Recently, research on workflow patterns has emerged in order to increase the reuse of recurring workflow structures. However, current workflow modeling tools do not provide functionalities that enable users to define, query, and reuse workflow patterns properly. In this paper we gather a suite for both process modeling and normalization based on workflow patterns reuse. This suite must be used in the extension of some workflow design tool. The suite comprises components for the design of processes
from both legacy systems and process modeling
High definition tDCS effect on postural control in healthy individuals: Entropy analysis of a crossover clinical trial
Objective: Converging evidence supporting an effect of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on postural control and human verticality perception highlights this strategy as promising for post-stroke rehabilitation. We have previously demonstrated polarity-dependent effects of high-definition tDCS (HD-tDCS) on weight-bearing asymmetry. However, there is no investigation regarding the time-course of effects on postural control induced by HD-tDCS protocols. Thus, we performed a nonlinear time series analysis focusing on the entropy of the ground reaction force as a secondary investigation of our randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover clinical trial. Materials and Methods: Twenty healthy right-handed young adults received the following conditions (random order, separate days); anode center HD-tDCS, cathode center HD-tDCS or sham HD-tDCS at 1, 2, and 3 mA over the right temporo-parietal junction (TPJ). Using summarized time series of transfer entropy, we evaluated the exchanging information (causal direction) between both force plates and compared the dose-response across the healthy subjects with a Generalized Linear Hierarchical/Mixed Model (GLMM). Results: We found significant variation during the dynamic information flow (p \u3c 0.001) among the dominant bodyside (and across time). A greater force transfer entropy was observed from the right to the left side during the cathode-center HD-tDCS up to 2 mA, with a causal relationship in the information flow (equilibrium force transfer) from right to left that decreased over time. Conclusions: HD-tDCS intervention induced a dynamic influence over time on postural control entropy. Right hemisphere TPJ stimulation using cathode-center HD-tDCS can induce an asymmetry of body weight distribution towards the ipsilateral side of stimulation. These results support the clinical potential of HD-tDCS for post-stroke rehabilitation
Correlation of serum leptin and insulin levels of pregnant protein-restricted rats with predictive obesity variables
During pregnancy and protein restriction, changes in serum insulin and leptin levels, food intake and several metabolic parameters normally result in enhanced adiposity. We evaluated serum leptin and insulin levels and their correlations with some predictive obesity variables in Wistar rats (90 days), up to the 14th day of pregnancy: control non-pregnant (N = 5) and pregnant (N = 7) groups (control diet: 17% protein), and low-protein non-pregnant (N = 5) and pregnant (N = 6) groups (low-protein diet: 6%). Independent of the protein content of the diet, pregnancy increased total (F1,19 = 22.28, P < 0.001) and relative (F1,19 = 5.57, P < 0.03) food intake, the variation of weight (F1,19 = 49.79, P < 0.000) and final body weight (F1,19 = 19.52, P < 0.001), but glycemia (F1,19 = 9.02, P = 0.01) and the relative weight of gonadal adipose tissue (F1,19 = 17.11, P < 0.001) were decreased. Pregnancy (F1,19 = 18.13, P < 0.001) and low-protein diet (F1,19 = 20.35, P < 0.001) increased the absolute weight of brown adipose tissue. However, the relative weight of this tissue was increased only by protein restriction (F1,19 = 15.20, P < 0.001) and the relative lipid in carcass was decreased in low-protein groups (F1,19 = 4.34, P = 0.05). Serum insulin and leptin levels were similar among groups and did not correlate with food intake. However, there was a positive relationship between serum insulin levels and carcass fat depots in low-protein groups (r = 0.37, P < 0.05), while in pregnancy serum leptin correlated with weight of gonadal (r = 0.39, P < 0.02) and retroperitoneal (r = 0.41, P < 0.01) adipose tissues. Unexpectedly, protein restriction during 14 days of pregnancy did not alter the serum profile of adiposity signals and their effects on food intake and adiposity, probably due to the short term of exposure to low-protein diet.
Dataset of Middle Cerebral Artery Blood Flow Stability in Response to High-Definition Transcranial Electrical Stimulation
This supplementary dataset is supportive of the randomized sham-controlled, double-blind, crossover clinical trial investigating polarity- and intensity-dependent effects of high-definition transcranial electrical stimulation (HD-tDCS) applied over the right temporo-parietal junction on mean middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity (MCA-BFv) bilaterally. Data of eleven healthy right-handed adults (6 women, 5 men; mean age 31 ± 5.6 years old) were analyzed for MCA-BFv, assessed using transcranial doppler ultrasound on the stimulated and the contralateral hemisphere concomitantly, during and after 3 blocks of 2 min HD-tDCS at 1, 2, and 3 mA. Participants received three electrical stimulation conditions (anode center, cathode center, and sham) randomly ordered across different days. The collected data is publicly available at Mendeley Data. This article and the data will inform future related investigations and safety analysis of transcranial non-invasive brain stimulation
A Review of Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Innervation in the Structural and Functional Maintenance of the Male Gonad
The nervous system controls and coordinates the functions of all body systems, including the male reproductive system. The male gonad, responsible for spermatogenesis and steroidogenesis, receives autonomous sympathetic and parasympathetic innervation, having a great influence on the structural and functional integrity of this organ. The testis receives autonomic innervation primarily at the superior and inferior poles, specifically by the superior and inferior spermatic nerves. This nervous control is wired into all testicular cell populations such as contractile cells (myoid cells), germ cells, and steroidogenic cells. Many studies have also described the influence of autonomic innervation on Sertoli cell control. Thus, any possible interference of physical or chemical agents whose action is directly or indirectly linked to the nervous control of the testicle can result in changes and/or damage to male reproduction, with emphasis on testicular impairment. The present chapter consists of a review of data about the effects of physical or chemical alterations on the autonomous innervation and its repercussions on male gonad. For this, it is necessary to understand the general aspect of the nervous system and the male gonad morphology and innervation, as well as the action of drugs or any methods that promote changes in the communication between these two systems
