The role of cooperative learning in the introductory stages of art teacher training programmes in Japan
In this article the outcomes and issues of cooperative learning in teacher training programmes for undergraduate art students are examined. Cooperative learning utilizes human interaction in small groups in pursuit of shared goals. The author designed and delivered two introductory courses at the University of Tsukuba that were added to the teacher training programme as a result of reforms to the Japanese national teacher education system in 2000. The courses, which were informed by principles and methods of cooperative learning, had a positive impact on student engagement and satisfaction. Although the study workload is heavier since these reforms were put into place there has been a steady increase in numbers of art students entering and finishing teacher training
Effects of Art Writing Education and Its Future Tasks : Responses from Applicants for an Essay Contest in Upper Secondary Education
2005年より実施してきた高校生対象のアートエッセイコンテストへの参加者から得た回答によって,美術の学習における文章執筆の活用を重視するアートライティング教育への取り組みが,学習者によってどのように認識されているかを調査した。その結果,学習者は執筆の過程において,表現する内容の構想よりも,言葉での表現や伝達に困難を認める傾向が見られた。また執筆を通して,自己認識や,アートへの認識の深化を経験したことを評価する例が広く認められた。これらの調査結果をもとに,アート体験を基礎とした文章執筆の効果と課題を指摘した。This paper investigates learners\u27 views on art writing education. Art writing education emphasizes the role of writing for learning art. Questionnaire responses from applicants to an art essay contest for upper secondary students, which has been held since 2005, were analyzed for this purpose. The main findings are as follows. 1. Learners tend to find it more difficult to communicate in writing than to develop ideas for writing about art. 2. Considerable numbers of learners appreciated their increased self-awareness through writing. 3. Increased awareness of art is another significant achievement the learners recognize as a result of writing. On the basis of these findings, this paper points out the effects of art writing education and its future tasks
