Given the negative role of problematic use of new technological devices (NTD) in behavioral and psychological domains, the aim of the study is the Italian adaptation and validation of the Internet Motive Questionnaire for Adolescents (IMQ-A) in order to understand the motivation for the use of NTD. A total of 769 students 10-19 aged (M = 13.22, SD = 1.56) completed the IMQ-A, the Collins Figures Rating Scale, and two measures regarding the problematic NTD use, focused on overuse during the night and during meals. The IMQ-A showed adequate internal consistency with regard to its four subscales: Coping (α = .84), Social (α = .80), Enhancement (α = .80), and Conformity (α = .68) motives. However, with regard to factorial structure, a threefactor model (excluding Conformity subscale) showed slightly better fit indices than the original model. Coping motive was correlated with problematic NTD use and succeeded in predicting higher scores in body dissatisfaction as evidence of criterion-related and external validity. The Italian adaptation of the IMQ-A can be useful in both research and clinical fields, in order to propose alternative strategies for coping to users and to improve emotion regulation facets

Infections caused by methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) are still associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Treatment failures of cefazolin (CFZ) have been reported and probably related to the inoculum effect. New treatments for severe MSSA infections are needed and ceftaroline fosamil (CPT) could be an option. Our aim was to describe the clinical characteristics of five patients with complicated MSSA bacteremia failing CFZ and successfully treated with CPT. We performed a retrospective chart review in a Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina; in a 12-month period, five patients (24%) of 21 with MSSA bacteremia experienced CFZ failure and were salvaged with CPT. The median time of CFZ therapy was 10 days before changing to CPT; four patients had evidence of metastatic spread and 2 had endocarditis. All patients experienced microbiological and clinical cure with CPT, which was used as monotherapy in 4 and in combination with daptomycin in another. One patient discontinued CPT due to neutropenia on day 23 of treatment. In patients with MSSA BSI failing current therapy, CPT could be a good therapeutic option. Fil: Obed, Mora N.. Instituto Medico Platense.; ArgentinaFil: Toresani, Ines. Experimental and archaeological data for the identification of projectile impact marks on small-sized mammals

The role of small game in prehistoric hunter-gatherer economy is a highly debated topic. Despite the general assumption that this practice was uneconomic, several studies have underlined the relevance of the circumstance of capture – in terms of hunting strategies and technology – in the evaluation of the actual role of small mammals in human foraging efficiency. Since very few studies have focused on the recognition of bone hunting lesions, in a previous work we explored the potential of 3D microscopy in distinguishing projectile impact marks from other taphonomic marks, developing a widely-applicable diagnostic framework based on experimental data and focused on Late Epigravettian projectiles. Even though we confirmed the validity of the method on zooarchaeological remains of large-sized mammals, the reliability of the experimental record in relation to smaller animals needed more testing and verification. In this report we thus present the data acquired through a new ballistic experiment on small mammals and compare the results to those previously obtained on medium-sized animals, in order to bolster the diagnostic criteria useful in bone lesion identification with specific reference to small game. We also present the application of this renewed methodology to an archaeological context dated to the Late Glacial and located in the eastern Italian Alps

Extinction and paleoecology of the Late Pleistocene cave bear from northeastern Italy: radiocarbon and stable isotope evidence

    Get PDF
We present here the chronometric, isotopic and taphonomic evidence of cave bear from three Palaeolithic sites in north-eastern Italy: Paina, Trene and Buso doppio del Broion (Berici Hills - Vicenza). Two direct radiocarbon dates yielded an age around 24 ka BP, which make these remains the latest known representatives of the species in Europe and confirmed that demise of cave bear falls during the LGM. The carbon and nitrogen isotopic values of bone collagen do not show any marked ecological change since 33 ka BP, suggesting an essential vegetarian diet. Several bear bones preserved traces of human modification such as cut marks, which en-ables a reconstruction of the main steps of butchering process

    Low-energy Coulomb excitation of 94Zr

Recent state-of-the-art Monte Carlo shell-model calculations predict shape coexistence in Zr isotopes. In this context, the 94Zr nucleus is particularly interesting since some experimental investigations have already suggested the possible coexistence of spherical and oblate shapes, however, no definitive conclusion on its deformation has been reported to date. As such, a dedicated experiment to study collectivity and configuration coexistence in 94Zr by means of a low-energy Coulomb excitation was performed. This study was performed at the INFN Legnaro National Laboratory with the GALILEO-SPIDER setup, which, in this instance, was further augmented with 6 Lanthanum Bromide scintillators (LaBr3:Ce) in order to to maximize the γ-ray detection efficiency

Primary malignant pericardial tumour in Lynch syndrome

Background: This case represents the first report of malignant primary cardiac tumour in a patient with Lynch Syndrome associated with MSH2 pathogenic variant. Case presentation: A 57-year-old woman with previous ovarian cystadenocarcinoma was admitted to the emergency room for hematic pericardial effusion. Multimodal diagnostic imaging revealed two solid pericardial vascularized masses. After pericardiectomy, the final histological diagnosis was poorly differentiated pleomorphic sarcomatoid carcinoma. During follow-up she developed an ampulla of Vater adenocarcinoma. Genetic analysis identified an MSH2 pathogenic variant. Conclusion: This case contributes to expand the tumour spectrum of Lynch syndrome, suggesting that MSH2 pathogenic variants cause a more complex multi-tumour cancer syndrome than the classic Lynch Syndrome. In MSH2 variant carriers, symptoms such as dyspnoea and chest discomfort might alert for rare tumours and a focused cardiac evaluation should be considered

Transition probabilities in the X(5) candidate 122^{122}Ba

To investigate the possible X(5) character of 122Ba, suggested by the ground state band energy pattern, the lifetimes of the lowest yrast states of 122Ba have been measured, via the Recoil Distance Doppler-Shift method. The relevant levels have been populated by using the 108Cd(16O,2n)122Ba and the 112Sn(13C,3n)122Ba reactions. The B(E2) values deduced in the present work are compared to the predictions of the X(5) model and to calculations performed in the framework of the IBA-1 and IBA-2 models

Efficacy of weekly docetaxel in locally advanced cardiac angiosarcoma

    Get PDF
Background: Primary cardiac angiosarcoma is extremely aggressive; however, it is often misdiagnosed because of its rarity. For locally advanced tumors, doxorubicin-based chemotherapy regimens are the standard of treatment, even if the gain in term of progression-free survival is limited and is no longer than 5 months. Case presentation: We report the case of a Caucasian 23-year-old man with locally advanced cardiac angiosarcoma who underwent radical surgical resection after a prolonged response to weekly docetaxel and complementary radiotherapy. Conclusion: Combined treatment with weekly docetaxel and radiotherapy may be a valid alternative for the treat-ment of locally advanced cardiac angiosarcoma; the combination can lead to radical surgical resections, avoiding the cumulative cardiotoxicity of antracycline-based regimens
