Optimization of Financial Transmission Right Portfolios Using Risk-Reward Analysis of Deregulated Power Systems

    Get PDF
Financial Transmission Rights (FTR) is an investment that protects the market customers from price uncertainty in the case of transmission line congestion. Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection (PJM) allows bidding of FTR\u27s on various transmission paths. This thesis investigates quantitative methods for portfolio optimization to produce a risk-minimum portfolio of FTR\u27s to bid. A computer model based on Security-Constrained Unit Commitment Problem and Risk-Reward Analysis is developed to simulate various operating conditions of a power system and predict the variations of power flows and corresponding electricity prices. It offers guidelines about the bidding cost and the amount of megawatts to bid for each transmission path, in order to obtain a certain profit with the corresponding minimum risk. The method for calculating the risk and reward is Markowitz Mean-Variance Analysis. The computer model also includes the LMP determination for which a MATLAB code has been developed. The model is tested on a 6-bus power system

Audio Retrieval Using Multiple Feature Vectors

    Get PDF
Content Based Audio Retrieval system is very helpful to facilitate users to find the target audio materials. Audio signals are classified into speech, music, several types of environmental sounds and silence based on audio content analysis. The extracted audio features include temporal curves of the average zero-crossing rate, the spectral Centroid, the spectral flux, as well as spectral roll-off of these curves. In this dissertation we have used the four features for extracting the audio from the database, use of this multiple features increase the accuracy of the audio file which we are retrieving from the audio database

IMPACT OF SUPERVISOR - SUBORDINATE RELATIONSHIP ON ENVY, KNOWLEDGE SHARING, AND RELATIONAL CONFLICT AMONG EMPLOYEES: A PILOT STUDY

    Get PDF
Envy has been relatively ignored in organizational behavior research. In this study, we focus on the impact of leader member exchange on envy. In addition, we also investigate the consequences of envy in terms of employee knowledge sharing and relational conflict. Building on Affective events theory, we argue that employees who do not have a good relationship with their supervisors (low quality LMX) will exhibit higher levels of envy and eventually will restrict their knowledge sharing and engage in relational conflict in the workplace. PLS based SEM was applied to the data derived from a sample of forty three software engineers. Results of the study provide support to three of the proposed hypotheses. This study contributes to the field by demonstrating the negative consequences of envy in the workplace. Practical implications of the study and some interesting avenues for future research are also discussed

Envy has been relatively ignored in organizational behavior research. In this study, we focus on the impact of supervisor subordinate relationship (LMX) on envy. In addition, we also investigate the consequences of envy in terms of employee knowledge sharing and relational conflict. Building on Affective events theory, we argue that employees who do not have a good relationship with their supervisors (low quality LMX) will exhibit higher levels of envy. As a result, they will restrict their knowledge sharing, and engage in relational conflict in the workplace. Partial least squares based structural equation modeling was applied to the data derived from a sample of one hundred sixty one software engineers working across various information technology firms in India. Results of the study provide support to three of the proposed hypotheses. This study contributes to the field by demonstrating the negative consequences of envy in the workplace. Practical implications of the study and some interesting avenues for future research are also discussed

Information Retrieval using Context Based Document Indexing

    Get PDF
Information retrieval is task of retrieving relevant information according to query of user. A brief idea is presented in this paper about document retrieval using context based indexing approach. Here lexical association is used to separate content carrying terms and background terms. Content carrying terms are used as they give idea about theme of the document. Indexing weight calculation is done for content carrying terms. Lexical association measure is used to calculate indexing weight of terms. The term having higher indexing weight is considered as important and sentence which contains these terms is also important. When user enters search query, the important terms are matched with the terms with higher weights in order to retrieve documents. The documents which are relevant are retrieved according to importance of sentences. Using this approach information can be retrieved efficiently

Should I Leave or Not? The Role of LMX and Organizational Climate in Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Turnover Relationship

    Get PDF
This study attempts to investigate the complex nature of the relationship between organizational citizenship behavior and turnover intentions. We argue that leader member exchange and organizational climate will moderate the relationship between organizational citizenship behavior and turnover intentions. The results of hierarchical regression analysis conducted on the data obtained from 216 employees working in the retail industry provide support to the hypothesized relationships. Implications for management practice and future research directions are discussed

Optimism in Music Piracy: A Pilot Study

    Get PDF
Piracy continues to be a threat to global economy. Previous literature on factors influencing individual’s attitude towards piracy indicates that as perceived risk increases, individuals attitude of acceptance of piracy should decrease. In spite of the increased risks, some people pirate, there has been no explanation for this apparent paradox. We try to explain this paradox by using the concept of optimism bias. Results of our study show that individuals having an optimism bias engage in piracy because they consider themselves at low risk than average compared to the group

INDIGENOUS CASTOR OIL BIODIESEL AN ALTERNATIVE FUEL FOR DIESEL ENGINE

    Get PDF
Rising petroleum prices, increasing threat to the environment from exhaust emissions and global warming have generated intense international interest in developing alternative non-petroleum fuels for engines. The present work aims to find out the prospects and opportunities of using methyl esters of castor as fuels in an automobile. The suitability of such fuels in transportation vehicles helps in saving foreign exchange and use can be made of locally available resources. Tests were conducted on a four stroke, four cylinder, D.I. diesel engine with Diesel and Biodiesel. The results of the emission tests on smoke meter are compared for 100% castor biodiesel (BC100) with that of neat diesel. No modifications were done on the engine. The results indicate that there is a reduction of 30%-35% in smoke density while using Biodiesel. It can be thus be concluded that methyl esters of castor oil can be used as a substitute for diesel fuel in automobiles

Indexing weight calculation is done for content carrying terms. Lexical association measure is used to calculate indexing weight of terms. The term having higher indexing weight is considered as important and sentence which contains these terms is also important. The summary of document is prepared. The graph of word approach is used here for information retrieval. The terms are weighted according to in-degree of vertices in document graph. When user enters search query, the important terms are matched with the terms with higher weights in order to retrieve documents. The documents which are relevant are retrieved according to weight of terms. Weight of term is determined using term graph. Term weight – Inverse document frequency scoring function is used to retrieve relevant documents. Using this approach information can be retrieved efficiently. Performance of retrieval will be improved as time required to search documents is less using proposed approach
