The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the PSS method in teaching English as a foreign language at State Madrasah Ibtidaiyah 1 of Palembang. This study is also to determine the effect of PSS method in improving student learning outcomes. This research is a quantitative researchusingthe classes that already exist as a group, both for the experimental class and the control class, which is estimated at the same condition. The experimental study class consisted of 36 students and a control class also consists of 36 students. The result of the analysis show that the experimental class of 36 students on average score of 4.5 on the learning outcomes of pre-test and 5.97 at post-test. While the control class scored on average of 4.91 on the learning outcomes of the pre-test and 4.97 at post-test. The results of the SPSS hypothesis analysis that has been done in the paired samples t-test show that the mean of the experimental group is -1.472 with standard deviation 2.131. And t value is -4.145, while significant (2-tailed) of 0.000Ë‚0.05. It can be concluded that rejected Ho, and can be said that there is a significant difference of students\u27 achievement before and after the application of PSS method

The purpose of this in-vitro study was to evaluate the effects of two different seal materials, Pro Sealâ„¢ and BisCoverâ„¢ LV on enamel demineralization adjacent to orthodontic fixed appliances. Sixty noncarious extracted premolars were allocated to three groups of twenty each as Pro Sealâ„¢ and BisCoverâ„¢ LV as the study and Transbondâ„¢ XT as the control group. After placing the brackets, the teeth were cycled through a deminerali-zation-remineralization procedure for 30 days. Demineralization of the enamel surface was evaluated quantitatively by cross-sectional microhardness testing. The results reveal that, demineralization in the Pro Sealâ„¢ group was significantly less than the other two groups. As for BisCoverâ„¢ LV group, significantly smaller amount of demineralization was observed than the control group. Pro SealTM and BisCoverTM LV can be considered for use in clinic as an effective method to prevent or reduce demineralization during orthodontic treatment, especially in patients with poor oral hygiene

Orthodontic Care of Cleidocranial Dysplasia Patients

Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a rare congenital deformity inherited as an autosomal genetic trait with the prevalence of 1:1,000,000. It is characterized by dental defomities such as retained primary teeth, presence of supernumerary teeth, skeletal dicrepancy, malocclusion and retarded/absence of eruption of permanent teeth. The orthodontist take part in the team for patients with CCD to resolve the eruption delay of permanent teeth and correct skeletal discrepancies. The aim of this review is to discuss the history, genetic backgrounds, clinical and dental features, different dental treatment approaches and orthodontic management of CCD

Which Orthodontic Wire and Working Sequence Should be Preferred for Alignment Phase? A Review

    Get PDF
The key to a successful orthodontic therapy depends not only on manual skills and knowledge about treatment steps, but also on knowledge and choice of materials used. One of the major components of fixed orthodontic therapy is the choice of wires. Orthodontic wires are defined as devices consisting of a wire conforming to the alveolar or dental arch, used as an anchorage in correcting irregularities in the position of the teeth. The history of these materials is as old as that of fixed orthodontic treatments and they present different features. With proper general knowledge, doctors can differentiate between wires and use the sufficient wire sequence suitable for each patient. This can increase the quality of treatment. Therefore, the aim of the present review is to focus on the differences in features of wires as well as the sequence of leveling wire selection according to the treatment plan

A New Approach to Prevent Migration of Mini-Implants

    Get PDF
Aim:The aims of this study were to determine the amount of mini-implant deflection under orthodontic loading and examine the effectiveness of a newly designed ring (mini-implant ring - MIR) placed at the collar of mini-implants.Materials and Methods:A total of 48 mini-implants were applied to the bone samples obtained from the ileum of bovine. In the study group 24 mini-implants were applied with MIR and remaining mini-implants were applied without MIR and were assigned as control. All mini-implants were subjected to a tangential force load of 200 g perpendicular to the screw, and displacement of screws was measured in millimeters by an Instron Universal Testing machine. After loading test, each mini-implant was removed, and the cortical bone thicknesses of the samples were measured. According to the cortical thickness of the samples, study and control groups were sub-grouped as having thin and thick cortical bone. Results:The mean displacement values of mini-implants inserted with MIR was significantly lower when compared with that of mini-implants inserted without MIR under 200 g force (p0.05).Conclusion:MIR might be a useful auxiliary to mini-implants especially in patients with thin cortical bone
