    Compressor with Turning-Paired Vane and Piston

    With the aim of energy saving of room air conditioners, we are addressing higher efficiency of the rotary compressor that is used most in the world. We focused on a new rotary compressor equipped with a mechanism to restrict the rolling motion of the piston, and performed the dynamics analysis. The new rotary compressor has a small pillar at the tip of the vane and constitutes a turning pair of vane and piston, and it limits the rolling motion of the piston. By means of limiting the piston rotation, the heat transfer to the suction process from the compression chamber will be suppressed, and we can expect higher compression efficiency. Before examining the compression efficiency, we performed the dynamics analysis of this new rotary compressor and examined the forces and dynamic behavior of the components, and the mechanical efficiency of the compressor. Then we have following results. (1)We can clarify the contact point between the vane tip and piston in the turning pair by considering the equilibrium of forces and moments acting on the vane. (2)By reducing the diameter of the pillar at the vane tip, the vane tip friction loss is reduced, and the mechanical efficiency is improved. (3)The new rotary compressor has less vane tip friction loss and on the other hand greater friction loss between the vane side and the cylinder in comparison to the rolling piston rotary compressors. As a result, both compressors have almost the same mechanical efficiency

    Emily Dickinson left almost 1800 poems many of which in bundles later called fascicles; they have been usually regarded as mss of poems chronologically bounded just for preservation. Recently in the United States, however, some scholars find unity in fascicles without clarifying why only their particular fascicles have unity under the editor Dickinson. My hypotheses are Franklin\u27s fascicles are Emily Dickinson\u27s poetry in parts and his "sets" are groups of poems waiting for later inclusion in further fascicles. My project is to offer the poet a persistent reader taking her fascicles as collections of poems edited by the poet herself and as more than just chronological. My method of reading-thinking-fermenting-writing of/about fascicles was formed by Stanley Fish\u27s Reader Response Criticism and has been the main engine in my analyses of Fascicles 1 and 2 and will take me as far as Fascicle 40. Fascicle 2 is not just a bundle of poems but an elaborately edited collection of poems, meaningfully following Fascicle 1. In Fascicle 1 Dickinson the editor juxtaposes nature and man in terms of time : nature rotates and overcomes time; man proceeds in a forward direction, dies and never returns. In Fascicle 2 against the softening background of nature are presented big themes like death, time, the human destiny of death and faith in Christ and lastly the poet\u27s almost biographically scrupulous feelings about having faith. Although Fascicle 2 is breathlessly and daringly taking in big themes as the second fascicle in a work of 40, it quite impressively binds these themes and reveals Emily Dickinson as the tactful editor

    Acute Vertebral Artery Origin Occlusion Leading to Basilar Artery Thrombosis Successfully Treated by Angioplasty with Stenting and Intracranial Fibrinolysis

    There are few reports describing stroke due to the acute occlusion of the vertebral artery (VA) origin successfully treated by endovascularily. The authors report a case of 78-year-old man suffering from stroke owing to acute VA origin occlusion associated with contralateral hypoplastic VA leading to basilar artery (BA) thrombosis. Cerebral angiography demonstrated that the right VA was occluded at its origin, the left VA was hypoplastic, and BA was filled with thrombus. The occlusion of VA origin was initially passed through with a microcatheter and microwire. Hereafter, angioplasty was performed followed by stenting with a coronary stent. The VA origin was successfully recanalized. Next, a microcatheter was navigated intracranially through the stent and fibrinolysis was performed for BA thrombus. The patient's symptoms gradually improved postoperatively. Stroke due to acute VA origin occlusion leading to BA thrombosis was successfully treated by angioplasty and stenting followed by intracranial fibrinolysis

    Hydrodynamic-Pressure-Induced Elastic Deformation of Thrust Slide-Bearings in Scroll Compressors and Oil Film Pressure Increase Due to Oil Envelopment

    This paper presents the concept of the Elasto-Hydrodynamic Lubrication?EHL?of thrust slide-bearings in scroll compressors, resulting in the superior lubrication characteristics of these bearings. The thrust plate undergoes elastic deformation due to axial loading, resulting in the formation of a uniform fluid wedge between the orbiting and fixed thrust plates. This wedge region has very high induced oil film pressure, which explains the remarkably good lubrication characteristics of the thrust slide-bearing. Furthermore, the high oil film pressure induces further local elastic deformation of the thrust plate, forming an EHL oil pocket with the thrust plate and a further increase in the oil film pressure between the sliding surfaces due to this oil envelopment. The formation of the EHL pocket was confirmed using FEM analysis and lubrication tests on the elastic deformation of the thrust plate. Subsequently, the additional increase in oil film pressure, due to the EHL pocket effect, was examined in computer simulations applying the average Reynolds equation for the boundary of elastic deformation of the thrust plate. In these studies, a 6.7% increase in oil film pressure was ascertained for a small cooling capacity scroll compressor driven at 3600 rpm with 0.1 kW motor.     Age- and sex-related differences of muscle cross-sectional area in iliocapsularis: a cross-sectional study

    [Background] This study aimed to determine in how many individuals the iliocapsularis muscle (IC) could be identified on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and whether age and sex are associated with the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the IC. [Methods] Thirty-seven healthy younger adults and 40 healthy older adults were assigned to four groups: 1) 20 younger men; 2) 17 younger women; 3) 20 older men; and 4) 20 older women. The CSAs of the IC, IP, the rectus femoris (RF) and the quadriceps (QUAD) were quantified on an axial MRI. [Results] The number of individuals with the identified IC was n = 17 (85.0%) of 20 younger men, n = 15 (88.2%) of 17 younger women, n = 18 (90.0%) of 20 older men, and 19 (95.0%) of 20 older women. Our results showed the main effect of sex, but not age, in the CSA of the IC. The men-groups had larger CSA of the IC than the women-groups; however, no difference in CSA of the IC was found between the younger and older groups. Meanwhile, the main effects of age and sex were found for the IP, RF, and QUAD; thus, younger or men groups have larger CSAs of the three muscles than the older or women groups. The IC muscle can be discriminated in 85% – 95% of healthy individuals. [Conclusion] Although sex and age are associated with the CSA of lower-limb muscles other than the IC, only sex is associated with the CSA of the IC

    A higher intramuscular fat in vastus medialis is associated with functional disabilities and symptoms in early stage of knee osteoarthritis: a case-control study

    [Background] The characteristics of muscle degeneration in individual quadriceps in early knee osteoarthritis (OA) and the association of muscle quantity and quality on knee dysfunction remain unclear. This study aimed to clarify the characteristics of muscle degeneration in individual quadriceps muscles in early knee OA and elucidate the association of muscle volume and intramuscular adipose tissue (intraMAT) with knee dysfunction, including functional disabilities, symptoms, and joint morphology. [Methods] Fifty participants were categorized into early knee OA and healthy control groups. 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using T1-weighted and Dixon methods and 3D SPACE in the thigh muscle and knee joint regions was performed. Quadriceps muscle volume, intraMAT, and whole-organ MRI score (WORMS) were assessed. The Knee Society Score (KSS) was used to evaluate functional disabilities and knee symptoms. Univariate analysis of variance was conducted with covariates to clarify the differences in muscle volume and intraMAT between the two groups. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed using the KSS function and symptom subcategories and WORMS as dependent variables and muscle volume, intraMAT, and the presence of early knee OA as independent variables, such as potential confounders. [Results] The quadriceps intraMAT, especially in the vastus medialis (VM), was significantly higher in patients with early knee OA than in healthy controls. The VM intraMAT, not muscle volume, was significantly associated with KSS function [B =  − 3.47; 95% confidence interval [CI],  − 5.24 to − 1.71; p < 0.001] and symptom scores [B =  − 0.63; 95% CI,  − 1.09 to − 0.17; p = 0.008], but not with WORMS. [Conclusion] These findings suggest that higher VM intraMAT is characteristic of quadriceps muscle degeneration in early knee OA and its increase is associated with functional disabilities and symptoms

    Stanley Fish is against all theories, narratology explicitly included; they are, according to him, deprivations of reading in favor of objectivity based on "theoretical machine." I argue in this article that Dorrit Cohn\u27s narratological theory of the presentation of consciousness in fiction is compatible with Fishean reading. Her "narratological" reading includes her "responses" to the text; her "narratological" reading could contribute to "her" response criticism. Fishean response criticism can encompass all theoretical insights, because all theories are obliged to appear as readers\u27 responses in the process of reading. I present my version of reader response criticism of "Bliss." Although I have learned much from narratologists such as Dorrit Cohn, Gerald Prince, Wallace Martin, Mieke Bal, in my reading of the story I try to avoid their predilection toward scientific objectivity and exemplify readers\u27 responses to the text in the subjectivity of the readers. Through my reading experience of the form of Mansfield\u27s text, I was manipulated by the presence of the ideological and feminist Mansfield.
