Preliminary Study of the Relationship Between Accounting Fundamentals and Stock Prices for the Prime Market

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between accounting fundamentals and future abnormal returns for prime market issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The background of the study is the revision of market segmentation in Japan starting April 2022. To elaborate, the market classification on the Tokyo Stock Exchange has been reorganized from the four categories of“ First Section,”“ Second Section,”“ Mothers,” and“ JASDAQ” to three categories of“ Prime Market,”“ Standard Market,” and“ Growth Market.” By examining the relationship between accounting fundamentals and future abnormal returns for prime market stocks, this paper provides empirical evidence on how the introduction of this new market classification affects the relationship between value based on accounting fundamentals and stock prices

    ABO-Incompatible Kidney Transplantation

Previously, ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation (KTx) was believed to be a “taboo” for immunological reasons. In Japan, the Tokyo Women’s Medical University reported the first successful case of such transplantation, performed on January 19, 1989. Since then, we have been striving to improve the outcome of ABO-incompatible transplantation for a quarter of a century

A giant plexiform schwannoma of the brachial plexus: case report

We report the case of a patient who noticed muscle weakness in his left arm 5 years earlier. On examination, a biloculate mass was observed in the left supraclavicular area, and Tinel's sign caused paresthesia in his left arm. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a continuous, multinodular, plexiform tumor from the left C5 to C7 nerve root along the course of the brachial plexus to the left brachia. Tumor excision was attempted. The median and musculocutaneous nerves were extremely enlarged by the tumor, which was approximately 40 cm in length, and showed no response to electric stimulation. We resected a part of the musculocutaneous nerve for biopsy and performed latissimus dorsi muscle transposition in order to repair elbow flexion. Morphologically, the tumor consisted of typical Antoni A areas, and immunohistochemistry revealed a Schwann cell origin of the tumor cells moreover, there was no sign of axon differentiation in the tumor. Therefore, the final diagnosis of plexiform Schwannoma was confirmed

Clinical Feature of Men Who Benefit from Dose Escalation of Naftopidil for Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms: A Prospective Study

Objectives. To examine the feature of men who benefit from dose escalation of naftopidil for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTSs). Methods. Based on the IPSS, men reporting LUTS were prospectively studied using 50 mg/day of naftopidil for the first 4 weeks; satisfied patients continued its 50 mg/day (n = 11), and those reporting unsatisfactory improvement received its 75 mg/day (n = 35) for the next 4 weeks. Results. The 75 mg group showed improvement in the total IPSS and QOL score in a dose-dependent manner (at 4 weeks: P < .001, at 4 weeks versus 8 weeks: P < .05). In the 50 mg group, both scores reduced at 4 weeks, thereafter unchanged. The baseline slow stream score alone was higher in the 75 mg group (P = .013). The rate of change in the QOL score during the initial 4 weeks (ΔQOL) and Δnocturia was smaller in the 75 mg group (P < .05). Conclusions. Men with high slow stream score and unsatisfactory improvement in nocturia may benefit from dose escalation of naftopidil

Long-term CMV monitoring and chronic rejection in renal transplant recipients

IntroductionCytomegalovirus (CMV) is well established to be an independent risk factor for graft loss after kidney transplantation (KTx). Monitoring for CMV in the chronic phase is not defined in the current guideline. The effects of CMV infection, including asymptomatic CMV viremia, in the chronic phase are unclear.MethodsWe performed a single-center retrospective study to investigate incidence of CMV infection in the chronic phase, defined as more than 1 year after KTx. We included 205 patients who received KTx between April 2004 and December 2017. The CMV pp65 antigenemia assays to detect CMV viremia were continuously performed every 1–3 months.ResultsThe median duration of the follow-up was 80.6 (13.1–172.1) months. Asymptomatic CMV infection and CMV disease were observed in 30.7% and 2.9% in the chronic phase, respectively. We found that 10–20% of patients had CMV infections in each year after KTx which did not change over 10 years. The history of CMV infection in the early phase (within 1 year after KTx) and chronic rejection were significantly associated with CMV viremia in the chronic phase. CMV viremia in the chronic phase was significantly associated with graft loss.DiscussionThis is the first study to examine the incidence of CMV viremia for 10 years post KTx. Preventing latent CMV infection may decrease chronic rejection and graft loss after KTx

Preliminary Study on Classification of Financial Ratios Using Factor Analysis

The purpose of this paper is to perform factor analysis on financial ratios calculated using consolidated financial statement data from the fiscal year ended March 31, 2006 to the fiscal year ended March 31, 2017, which are disclosed by Japanese companies, and to classify financial ratios. The analysis provided evidence to suggest that both net income and cash flows from operating activities are functioned as financial performance measures with similar properties. We also find that capital efficiency is an important factor. Furthermore, there is also evidence that cash flows from investing activities and cash flows from financing activities have a common factor
