Temperature Swing Adsorption Process for CO2 Capture Using Polyaniline Solid Sorbent
AbstractTo capture carbon dioxide from power plant flue gas which consists of 15% CO2 and 85% N2, with a temperature swing adsorption (TSA) by using polyaniline solid sorbent as the adsorbent, is explored experimentally and theoretically. First, single component adsorption equilibrium data of carbon dioxide on polyaniline solid sorbent is obtained by using Micro-Balance Thermo D-200. Then isotherm curves and the parameters are obtained by numerical method. The adsorption is expressed by the Langmuir-Freundlich isotherm. After accomplishment of isotherm curves, the breakthrough curve experiment is investigated with single adsorption column. The experiments test the change in adsorbed gas concentration at the outlet by adsorbed gas, CO2, and non-adsorbed gas, helium. Finally, this study accentuates the TSA experiments on CO2 purity and recovery by operation variable discussion which includes feed pressure, adsorption temperature and desorption temperature to find optimal operation condition. The results of optimal operation condition are CO2 purity of 47.65% with a 92.46% recovery
Dual Targeting of 3-Hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl Coenzyme A Reductase and Histone Deacetylase as a Therapy for Colorectal Cancer
AbstractStatins are 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase (HMGR) inhibitors decreasing serum cholesterol and have shown promise in cancer prevention. In this study, we demonstrated the oncogenic role of HMGR in colorectal cancer (CRC) by disclosing increased HMGR activity in CRC patients and its enhancement of anti-apoptosis and stemness. Our previous studies showed that statins containing carboxylic acid chains possessed activity against histone deacetylases (HDACs), and strengthened their anti-HDAC activity through designing HMGR-HDAC dual inhibitors, JMF compounds. These compounds exerted anti-cancer effect in CRC cells as well as in AOM-DSS and ApcMin/+ CRC mouse models. JMF mostly regulated the genes related to apoptosis and inflammation through genome-wide ChIP-on-chip analysis, and Ingenuity Pathways Analysis (IPA) predicted their respective regulation by NR3C1 and NF-κB. Furthermore, JMF inhibited metastasis, angiogenesis and cancer stemness, and potentiated the effect of oxaliplatin in CRC mouse models. Dual HMGR-HDAC inhibitor could be a potential treatment for CRC
Hemingway in China
Contends that Hemingway’s 1941 trip was intended to report on China’s war effort and to arouse American sympathy for the deeply distressed nation. Analyzes and cites examples from Hemingway’s P. M. dispatches, commenting on the author’s high regard for the devotion and discipline of the Chinese soldiers and sacrifices incurred by the common people
Insights into serum metabolic biomarkers for early detection of incident diabetic kidney disease in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes by random forest.
Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a leading cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) worldwide. Early detection is critical for the risk stratification and early intervention of progressive DKD. Serum creatinine (sCr) and urine output are used to assess kidney function, but these markers are limited by their delayed changes following kidney pathology, and lacking of both sensitivity and accuracy. Hence, it is essential to illustrate potential diagnostic indicators to enhance the precise prediction of early DKD. A total of 194 Chinese individuals include 30 healthy participants (Stage 0) and 164 incidents with type 2 diabetes (T2D) spanning from DKD's Stage 1a to 4 were recruited and their serums were subjected for untargeted metabolomic analysis. Random forest (RF), a machine learning approach, together with univariate linear regression (ULR) and multivariate linear regression (MvLR) analysis were applied to characterize the features of untargeted metabolites of DKD patients and to identify candidate DKD biomarkers. Our results indicate that 2-(α-D-mannopyranosyl)-L-tryptophan (ADT), succinyladenosine (SAdo), pseudouridine and N,N,N-trimethyl-L-alanyl-L-proline betaine (L-L-TMAP) were associated with the development of DKD, in particular, the latter three that were significantly elevated in Stage 2-4 T2D incidents. Each of the four metabolites in combination with sCr achieves better performance than sCr alone with area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.81-0.91 in predicting DKD stages. An average of 3.9 years follow-up study of another cohort including 106 Stage 2-3 patients suggested that "urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) + ADT + SAdo" can be utilized for better prognosis evaluation of early DKD (average AUC = 0.9502) than UACR without sexual difference
How small is TOO small? New liver constraint is needed- Proton therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma patients with small normal liver.
PURPOSE:This study evaluated the outcomes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with small normal liver volume (NLV) treated with proton beam therapy (PBT) and introduced estimated standard liver volume (eSLV) as a new constraint. MATERIALS AND METHODS:HCC patients with NLV 20% and an rV30/eSLV ratio of >30% are acceptable
