Human resource allocation in a multiple project environment

    Get PDF
Resource management on a master level, this is how one can describe the task to manage resources in a multiple project environment. Beside the common responsibilities of a human resource manager like planning, allocating, monitoring and developing resources, the multiple project environment also offers constrains on several levels, success and failure interdependencies and extreme variations on workload demand and capacities. What is common to all projects, no matter if single or multiple, processed in sequence or simultaneously, the assigned human resources are a central success driver. In order to maximise every project objectives it is essential to plan the available resources as best as possible. This study shall contribute to the understanding about what kind of difficulties organisations are facing by managing their human resources in the multiple project environment. Firstly the case company’s processes has been observed and tested in order to identify the department’s specific difficulties. Secondly an in depth literature review will provide a comprehensive overview about recently discussed theory and proposed solutions concerning processes and procedures about the issue in question. Thirdly the identified, department specific, difficulties have been compared to external processes and procedures in order to seek for feasible solutions. Therefore the data- and the methodological triangulation have been applied. As the research model will show later, grounded theory, qualitative and quantitative methods were used. Therefore data was gathered company internal and external. In summary the most influential attributes, for the human resource management process in a multiple project environment, could be identified as the reliability and validity of time schedules, the poor visibility of current and future workloads, the high dependency on external factors and supporting software tools.fi=Opinnäytetyö kokotekstinä PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=Lärdomsprov tillgängligt som fulltext i PDF-format

This volume includes four articles from some very respected scholars and leaders around the country. Several of the topics cover critical, timely issues, such as mental health and gender equality, and two of the other topics represent growing trends that leaders must address. These four accepted and published papers are 25% of the submissions received this year. We are grateful to the 16 authors who submitted original work for possible publication in the journal and hope that they, along with others, will continue to consider the journal as an outlet for their academic work

IN VITRO INDUCTION OF POLYPLOIDY IN CERCIS YUNNANENSIS HU ET CHENG

    Get PDF
Methods for in vitro induction of polyploid Cercis yunnanensis Hu et Cheng using oryzalin were developed and evaluated. Methods included treating either shoot or callus tissue for different exposure durations with either an aqueous solution of 150 micromolar oryzalin or the addition of oryzalin directly to solid media. Polyploid nuclei were determined by flow cytometry for all oryzalin treatments. Although the results indicate that most tissues measured were likely chimeras with respect to DNA content. Results indicate that treating shoot tissue with an aqueous solution of oryzalin for 12 to 96 hours produced tetraploid plants irrespective of the type of shoot explant treated. An unstable octaploid was formed from the treatment of a pre-cultured lateral shoot in an aqueous solution of oryzalin for 96 hours. In contrast shoots cultured on the solidified media failed to produce polyploid plants and there were no statistical differences between callus treatments regarding polyploid induction

I am truly grateful to the staff of the National Lab for the Study of the College President for allowing me to be a part of their family during this very strange and challenging academic year. I have been impressed by the Arkansas team, and will be excited to see their Handbook on College and University Leadership in the summer of 2021

The Effective Use of Staff Governance in Academic Leadership

Colleges and universities provide both the human capital development and often the research backbone for the economy to function at a high level. Simultaneously, institutions provide a tremendous social benefit for graduates and other stakeholders who make use of their emphasis on the arts, entertainment, and cultural development. This multi-dimensional role, one in which Clark Kerr referred to as the “multiversity” (Johnson, Kavanagh, & Mattson, 2003, p. 11), often results in a conflicting notion of purpose and management, with competition for business-like accountability with public sector intangible service. Burgess (2009) noted that the result is the perspective of the public university as a quasi-governmental agency

Arborealization II: Geomorphology of Lagrangian ridges

We prove an "h-principle without pre-conditions" for the elimination of tangencies of a Lagrangian submanifold with respect to a Lagrangian distribution. The main result states that the tangencies can always be completely removed at the cost of allowing the Lagrangian to develop certain non-smooth points, called Lagrangian ridges, modeled on the corner {p=q}R2\{p = |q|\} \subset \mathbb{R}^2 together with its products and stabilizations.Comment: 31 pages, 23 figure

Drinking During the Week? Alcohol and Religion among College Students

    Get PDF
Alcohol use among college students has been correlated with academic performance, major choice, and risky behaviors, such as impaired driving and high-risk sexual encounters. As college students matriculate, they learn to make decisions about who they are now, and who they will become in the future; decisions that include choices about religion. The study explored the differences in religious self-identification and alcohol use among students who identified themselves as unsure of their religious beliefs, those who were spiritual, and those who were religious; results found that students who self-identified as religious were less likely to drink alcohol within the past month
