Efficient Computation of Multiple Density-Based Clustering Hierarchies

HDBSCAN*, a state-of-the-art density-based hierarchical clustering method, produces a hierarchical organization of clusters in a dataset w.r.t. a parameter mpts. While the performance of HDBSCAN* is robust w.r.t. mpts in the sense that a small change in mpts typically leads to only a small or no change in the clustering structure, choosing a "good" mpts value can be challenging: depending on the data distribution, a high or low value for mpts may be more appropriate, and certain data clusters may reveal themselves at different values of mpts. To explore results for a range of mpts values, however, one has to run HDBSCAN* for each value in the range independently, which is computationally inefficient. In this paper, we propose an efficient approach to compute all HDBSCAN* hierarchies for a range of mpts values by replacing the graph used by HDBSCAN* with a much smaller graph that is guaranteed to contain the required information. An extensive experimental evaluation shows that with our approach one can obtain over one hundred hierarchies for the computational cost equivalent to running HDBSCAN* about 2 times.Comment: A short version of this paper appears at IEEE ICDM 2017. Instrumentos motivacionais de grupos de interesse na formatação das políticas públicas e técnicas (Planos Estratégicos, diversas formas de crédito, propriedade privada, Usucapião individuais e coletivos, ferramentas Institucionais de planejamento territorial, etc.) e legais (Planos Diretores, Zoneamentos Urbanos e Peri ? Urbanos, Estatutos das Cidades, Uso dos Solos Urbanos, etc.), têm como condição básica precípua: à organização, participação e fortalecimento das capacidades de gestão dos agentes dos poderes locais, em uma escala urbana, rural ou simplesmente territorial, formando o alicerce, tanto construção do plano de desenvolvimento endógeno local quanto regional, quer seja no âmbito municipal, estadual ou federal, formando assim, o capital social adequado ao cumprimento das ações necessárias ao incremento de atividades instigadoras dos órgãos responsáveis pelo planejamento urbanos e rurais, a cumprirem suas missões na implementação, das já existentes e de novas políticas públicas, voltadas para benefício dos cidadãos. Geoconservation in Brazil : a slow but consistent trail towards the success

The difficulties to implement a geoconservation strategy in Brazil are obvious: a huge territory with 8,5 million sq.km, existence of vast areas with difficult accessibility implying a limited geological knowledge of these areas and a small geoscientific community — considering the country’s size — traditionally focused on mining issues. In spite these difficulties, during recent years some important changes were introduced. Concerning the inventory of geological heritage, the Brazilian Commission of Geological and Palaeobiological Sites (SIGEP) is assembling and publishing since 2002 a geosites list already with 110 sites. The geological survey (CPRM) is finishing an online database (Geossit) to compile the geological characterisation and assessment of geosites. In addition, there are some isolated initiatives in some of the 27 Brazilian states. For instance, in São Paulo a special legislation was approved to allow the creation of “Geological Monuments”. In Rio de Janeiro the “Geological Paths” programme has installed over 100 interpretative panels in some of the most touristic geosites of this state. The biennial national geological congress has a special session on geoheritage since 2006, registering an increasing number of papers. The number of regional and local scientific events is also remarkable. In universities, the offer of optional courses on geoconservation and geotourism in geology, geography, and tourism graduations is increasing each year. In the University of São Paulo, a post-graduation on geoconservation will begin next school year. Finally, there are multiple opportunities and ongoing projects to develop geoparks and to increase the presence of Brazil in the Global Geoparks Network, besides the Araripe Geopark

Avaliação econômica de métodos alternativos para a colheita do guaraná.

Avaliacao dos metodos alternativos que permitem flexibilizar a epoca e o periodo da colheita do guarana (Paullinia cupana var. sorbilis), com monitoracao nas alteracoes no produto e no custo de producao decorrente dessa nova pratica. Foram definadas quatro modalidades de colheita: direta ou tradicional, indireta ou alternativa, mista - tipo 1 e mista - tipo 2. Os resultados indicaram que todas as combinacao dos metodos alternativos de colheita foram mais onerosas em relacao a tradicional. Porem, um aumento de 8,9% nos custos totais de producao indicam a viabilidade das alternativas, tendo em vista que elas podem porporcionar uma producao razoavel, em uma condicao onde poderia existir nenhuma, seja por escassez de mao-de-obra, seja por excesso de chuvas, podendo o produtor escolher entre os metodos alternativos aquele que mais lhe convier, em funcao de suas condicoes e caracteristicas proprias.bitstream/CPAA-2009-09/4462/1/IT_3_99.pd
