Thermal stability of titanium nitride for shallow junction solar cell contacts
To demonstrate the thermal stability of titanium nitride as a high-temperature diffusion barrier, the TiN-Ti-Ag metallization scheme has been tested on shallow-junction (~2000 Å) Si solar cells. Electrical measurements on reference samples with the Ti-Ag metallization scheme show serious degradation after a 600 °C, 10-min annealing. With the TiN-Ti-Ag scheme, no degradation of cell performance is observed after the same heat treatment if the TiN layer is >~1700 Å. The glass encapsulation of cells by electrostatic bonding requires such a heat treatment
Time-sensitive opinion mining for prediction
Users commonly use Web 2.0 platforms to post their opinions and their predictions about future events (e.g., the movement of astock). Therefore, opinion mining can be used as a tool for predicting future events. Previous work on opinion mining extracts from the text only the polarity of opinions as sentiment indicators. We observe that a typical opinion post also contains temporal references which can improve prediction. This short paper presents our preliminary work on extracting reference time tagsand integrating them into an opinion mining model, in order to improvethe accuracy of future event prediction. We conduct anexperimental evaluation using a collection of microblogs posted by investors to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.postprin
Improving microblog retrieval from exterior corpus by automatically constructing a microblogging corpus
A large-scale training corpus consisting of microblogs belonging to a desired category is important for highaccuracy microblog retrieval. Obtaining such a large-scale microblgging corpus manually is very time and laborconsuming. Therefore, some models for the automatic retrieval of microblogs from an exterior corpus have been proposed. However, these approaches may fail in considering microblog-specific features. To alleviate this issue, we propose a methodology that constructs a simulated microblogging corpus rather than directly building a model from the exterior corpus. The performance of our model is better since the microblog-special knowledge of the microblogging corpus is used in the end by the retrieval model. Experimental results on real-world microblogs demonstrate the superiority of our technique compared to the previous approaches.postprin
Self-consistent scattering theory of transport and output characteristics of quantum cascade lasers
Electron transport in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum cascade lasers operating in midinfrared is calculated self-consistently using an intersubband scattering model. Subband populations and carrier transition rates are calculated and all relevant electron-LO phonon and electron-electron scatterings between injector/collector, active region, and continuum resonance levels are included. The calculated carrier lifetimes and subband populations are then used to evaluate scattering current densities, injection efficiencies, and carrier backflow into the active region for a range of operating temperatures. From the calculated modal gain versus total current density dependencies the output characteristics, in particular the gain coefficient and threshold current, are extracted. For the original GaAs/Al0.33Ga0.67As quantum cascade structure [C. Sirtori , Appl. Phys. Lett. 73, 3486 (1998)] these are found to be g=11.3 cm/kA and J(th)=6+/-1 kA/cm(2) (at T=77 K), and g=7.9 cm/kA and J(th)=10+/-1 kA/cm(2) (at T=200 K), in good agreement with the experiment. Calculations shows that threshold cannot be achieved in this structure at T=300 K, due to the small gain coefficient and the gain saturation effect, also in agreement with experimental findings. The model thus promises to be a powerful tool for the prediction and optimization of new, improved quantum cascade structures. © 2002 American Institute of Physics
Activity-partner recommendation
LNCS v. 9077 entitled: Advances in Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining: 19th Pacific-Asia Conference, PAKDD 2015 ... Proceedings, Part 1In many activities, such as watching movies or having dinner, people prefer to find partners before participation. Therefore, when recommending activity items (e.g., movie tickets) to users, it makes sense to also recommend suitable activity partners. This way, (i) the users save time for finding activity partners, (ii) the effectiveness of the item recommendation is increased (users may prefer activity items more if they can find suitable activity partners), (iii) recommender systems become more interesting and enkindle users' social enthusiasm. In this paper, we identify the usefulness of suggesting activity partners together with items in recommender systems. In addition, we propose and compare several methods for activity-partner recommendation. Our study includes experiments that test the practical value of activity-partner recommendation and evaluate the effectiveness of all suggested methods as well as some alternative strategies.postprin
Real-time detection and sorting of news on microblogging platforms
Due to the increasing popularity of microblog-ging platforms (e.g., Twitter), detecting real-Time news from microblogs (e.g., tweets) has recently drawn a lot of attention. Most of the previous work on this subject detect news by analyzing propagation patterns of microblogs. This approach has two limitations: (i) many non-news microblogs (e.g. marketing activi-Ties) have propagation patterns similar to news microblogs and therefore they can be false-ly reported as news; (ii) using propagation patterns to identify news involves a time de-lay until the pattern is formed, therefore news are not detected in real time. We propose an alternative approach, which, motivated by the necessity of real-Time detection of news, does not rely on propagation of posts. More-over, we propose a real-Time sorting strategy that orders the detected news microblogs us-ing a translational approach. An experimen-Tal evaluation on a large-scale microblogging dataset demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach.postprin
Chaotic to ordered state transition of cathode-sheath instabilities in DC glow discharge plasmas
Transition from chaotic to ordered state has been observed during the initial
stage of a discharge in a cylindrical dc glow discharge plasma. Initially it
shows a chaotic behavior but increasing the discharge voltage changes the
characteristics of the discharge glow and shows a period substraction of order
7 period 5 period 3 period 1 period i.e. the system goes to
single mode through odd cycle subtraction. On further increasing the discharge
voltage, the system goes through period doubling, like 1 period 2 period
4 period. On further increasing the voltage, the system goes to stable
state without having any oscillations.Comment: chathode-sheath, instabilities, chaos, period-subtraction,

Controlled Quantum Secret Sharing
We present a new protocol in which a secret multiqubit quantum state
is shared by players and controllers, where
is the encoding state of a quantum secret sharing scheme. The players may be
considered as field agents responsible for carrying out a task, using the
secret information encrypted in , while the controllers are
superiors who decide if and when the task should be carried out and who to do
it. Our protocol only requires ancillary Bell states and Bell-basis
measurements.Comment: 6 pages, 0 figure, RevTeX4; published version with minor change
The Boson Loop Background to H -> ZZ at Photon-photon Colliders
We have performed a complete one-loop calculation of in the Standard Model, including both gauge bosons and fermions
in the loop. We confirm the large irreducible continuum background from the
-boson loop found by Jikia. We have included the photon-photon luminosity,
and find that the continuum background of transverse boson pairs prohibits
finding a heavy Higgs with mass \gtap 350 GeV in this decay mode.Comment: 16 pages + 4 PS figures included (uuencoded), MAD/PH/77
