This article is a translation of an article published in Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No 1, pp 103-114 Jan-Feb 1991.Many authors have examined problems related to the load transmission from an elastic rod to an elastic plane. It was assumed in the majority of investigationa that the stringer is a thin rectilinear rod transmitting only longitudinal forces while the rod contact with the plane is realized along a line. different modifications of sheet contact with a rectilinear tensile stringer considered as an inner stringer of finite length or as an infinite edge stringer were analyzed in [1, 2]. Problems about the reinforcement of holes in a plate by a thin rod of constant section that possesses bending and longitudinal stiffnesses were solved in [3]. The eccentricity of the connection between the shell middle surface and the rod was taken into account in [4] in a study of shells reinforced by thin curvilinear rods. Other models of the one-dimensional element connected to an elastic medium without taking account of its bending stiffness were analyzed in [5, 6]. Solutions of a number of problems with circular reinforcing elements are obtained in [7]. An isotropic finite or infinite, linearly elastic plate reinforced along part or all of the boundary and along certain internal lines by elastic curvilinear rods possessing variable longitudinal and bending stiffnesses, variable curvature and thickness, the eccentricity of the connection to the plate and with an arbitrary transverse section shape symmetric relative to the plate middle surface are studied in this paper. Boundary conditions on the line of plate contact with the inner or edge elastic rods are obtained for the reinforcement models generalizing [1, 2] by using the theory of elastic rods in the case of a plane state of stress. Existence and uniqueness theorems are proved for appropriate boundary value problems; the singularity of the stresses at angles and tips of the rods are proved. The relationships obtained carry over completely to the plane strain problem for an elastic cylinder reinforced by homogeneous cylindrical shells along the generator. Some of the results described here are represented in [8]

Topics of the nationwide phone-ins with Vladimir Putin and their role for public support and Russian economy

Acord transformatiu CRUE-CSICHere we consider several macroeconomic indicators taken from the Federal State Statistics Service (2019). First, there is the inflation rate calculated for each month as the sum of the inflation coefficients for the previous 12 months. Second, the unemployment rate is defined as the proportion of the unemployed in the economically active population. Further, the real wage index is calculated by dividing the nominal wage index by the consumer price index of the same period. Finally, budget expenditures are the funds of the federal and consolidated regional budgets directed to financial support of the tasks and functions of the federal and regional governments.Altres ajuts: This research has been supported by the Russian Science Foundation, project No. 19-18-00262 "Modelling a balanced technological and socio-economic development of the Russian regions".The addresses of national leaders can affect their public support and spur changes in the country's economy. To date, very few studies exist establishing these relationships, and no research has been done on the addresses from Vladimir Putin. In this paper we fill this knowledge gap by analysing the nationwide phone-ins of Putin, a special annual format where he addresses the public, and using structural topic modelling studying their topics over time. Furthermore, we relate these topics to public approval of the president and the government as well as to some Russian macroeconomic indicators such as inflation and budget expenditures. Based on our data containing 1938 responses and almost 250 thousand words, we identify 16 main topics covering areas from healthcare and education through economics to elections and legislation. We find that the topic of foreign affairs has gained in popularity over time the most (from around 4.5% at the beginning to more than 10% starting from 2014). Another topic, consistently gaining weight in the president's statements, is related to solving particular problems of the general public (from 8% to 12.5%) and is significantly correlated with subsequent decrease in the country's unemployment (Pearson's correlation coefficient -0.502). We also find that when the government's support is decreasing, Putin tends to discuss more socially significant topics (e.g., inflation, healthcare, Pearson's coef. around -0.5), while when the support is rising, he speaks more about foreign affairs (Pearson's coef. 0.773). Our study provides first evidence that Vladimir Putin may adapt the content of his phone-in meetings to gather public support and influence the country's economy

Distribution of reflection eigenvalues in many-channel chaotic cavities with absorption

The reflection matrix R=S^{\dagger}S, with S being the scattering matrix, differs from the unit one, when absorption is finite. Using the random matrix approach, we calculate analytically the distribution function of its eigenvalues in the limit of a large number of propagating modes in the leads attached to a chaotic cavity. The obtained result is independent on the presence of time-reversal symmetry in the system, being valid at finite absorption and arbitrary openness of the system. The particular cases of perfectly and weakly open cavities are considered in detail. An application of our results to the problem of thermal emission from random media is briefly discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures; (Ref.[5b] added, appropriate modification in text

The method of long-life calculation for a friction couple β€œrotor – hybrid bearing”

    Get PDF
Reliability of rotating machinery is determined to a considerable degree by the bearing units. For several applications the requirements in rotation speed, bearing load and maximal vibration level are so extreme that neither rolling-element bearings nor fluid-film bearings could provide necessary performance characteristics during all regimes of operation. Hybrid bearings, which are a combination of rolling-element and fluid-film bearings, can improve performance characteristics and reliability of the rotor-bearing systems. The article presents the approach for to formation of the method of resource calculation for hybrid bearing with speed separation. The results show that the resource of the slide bearing increases significantly when it is used in combination with a rolling-element bearing compared to its single setting

Recommended Thermal Rate Coefficients for the C + H3+_3^+ Reaction and Some Astrochemical Implications

We have incorporated our experimentally derived thermal rate coefficients for C + H3+_3^+ forming CH+^+ and CH2+_2^+ into a commonly used astrochemical model. We find that the Arrhenius-Kooij equation typically used in chemical models does not accurately fit our data and use instead a more versatile fitting formula. At a temperature of 10 K and a density of 104^4 cmβˆ’3^{-3}, we find no significant differences in the predicted chemical abundances, but at higher temperatures of 50, 100, and 300 K we find up to factor of 2 changes. Additionally, we find that the relatively small error on our thermal rate coefficients, ∼15%\sim15\%, significantly reduces the uncertainties on the predicted abundances compared to those obtained using the currently implemented Langevin rate coefficient with its estimated factor of 2 uncertainty.Comment: 19 pages, 5 figures. Spin disorder scattering in a ferromagnetic insulator-on-graphene structure

    Get PDF
We theoretically study the transport properties of a single graphene layer between two insulating materials, i.e., a ferromagnetic EuO thin film and a nonmagnetic SiC substrate. An exchange interaction between the charge carrier spins in graphene and the localized magnetic moments in the ferromagnetic insulator is assumed. This proximity effect and the large spin fluctuations at temperatures close to the ferromagnetic transition temperature TC lead to spin disorder scattering, which is calculated using a Green's function technique. Numerical results indicate that at temperatures close to TC the contribution of the spin disorder scattering to the total electron mobility is clearly observable even in the case of a weak exchange interaction and a low background mobility of the graphene layer. This enables the experimental determination of the exchange interaction parameter using the present model and a simple resistivity measurement.Peer reviewe
