Polarography of Te (IV) Anions in Neutral Solutions in Presence of 2,2'- Dipyridyl and Fe(dipy)3 2+ - Complexes
The electroreduction of Te (IV) ions in neutral non-buffer solutions containing 2,2'-dipyridyl (4⋅10-5- 4⋅10-3 M) or tris-dipyridyl iron (II) complexes is studied by the polarographic method. NaF (0.01-0.5 M) or NaNO3 (0.1-1 M) are used as supporting electrolytes. The mechanism of electrochemical reactions of Te (IV) anions on mercury electrodes in the presence of the additives is discussed. The electroreduction of Te (IV) anions is shown to proceed through electron transfer and proton addition. The obtained results point to a considerable influence of electric double layer structure on electrochemical reactions of Te (IV) ions in the presence of inorganic and specifically adsorbed organic compounds in the electrolyte. It is shown, that 2,2'-dipyridyl does not form complexes with Te (IV) anions. Having been adsorbed on the surface of mercury electrode, 2,2'-dipyridyl complexes increase negative Ψ'-potential that results in a shift of Te (IV) electroreduction wave to more negative potentials and decrease in the current of Te (IV) wave and peak at -1.19 V. It is shown that 2,2'-dipyridyl molecules at ε > 0, (ε – charge of an electrode) are adsorbed in plane orientation, and at ε < 0, plane or vertical. Vertically adsorbed molecules cause a significant decrease in the double layer capacitance. At negative potentials orientation of 2,2'-dipyridyl molecules changes from plane to vertical with the increasing 2,2'-dipyridyl concentration. This change of orientation results in a typical maximum capacitance emerging in the potential range of -0.7 to -1.2 V. It is shown that the supporting electrolyte, 2,2'-dipyridyl and Fe(dipy)32+  have influence on the electroreduction of Te (IV) anions in neutral non-buffer solutions through a change in the Ψ'-potential of mercury electrode
On Some Lie Bialgebra Structures on Polynomial Algebras and their Quantization
We study classical twists of Lie bialgebra structures on the polynomial
current algebra , where is a simple complex
finite-dimensional Lie algebra. We focus on the structures induced by the
so-called quasi-trigonometric solutions of the classical Yang-Baxter equation.
It turns out that quasi-trigonometric -matrices fall into classes labelled
by the vertices of the extended Dynkin diagram of . We give
complete classification of quasi-trigonometric -matrices belonging to
multiplicity free simple roots (which have coefficient 1 in the decomposition
of the maximal root). We quantize solutions corresponding to the first root of

Astrophysical science metrics for next-generation gravitational-wave detectors
The second generation of gravitational-wave (GW) detectors are being built and tuned all over the world. The detection of signals from binary black holes is beginning to fulfil the promise of GW astronomy. In this work, we examine several possible configurations for third-generation laser interferometers in existing km-scale facilities. We propose a set of astrophysically motivated metrics to evaluate detector performance. We measure the impact of detector design choices against these metrics, providing a quantitative cost-benefit analyses of the resulting scientific payoffs
Elastic principal manifolds and their practical applications
Principal manifolds serve as useful tool for many practical applications.
These manifolds are defined as lines or surfaces passing through "the middle"
of data distribution. We propose an algorithm for fast construction of grid
approximations of principal manifolds with given topology. It is based on
analogy of principal manifold and elastic membrane. The first advantage of this
method is a form of the functional to be minimized which becomes quadratic at
the step of the vertices position refinement. This makes the algorithm very
effective, especially for parallel implementations. Another advantage is that
the same algorithmic kernel is applied to construct principal manifolds of
different dimensions and topologies. We demonstrate how flexibility of the
approach allows numerous adaptive strategies like principal graph constructing,
etc. The algorithm is implemented as a C++ package elmap and as a part of
stand-alone data visualization tool VidaExpert, available on the web. We
describe the approach and provide several examples of its application with
speed performance characteristics.Comment: 26 pages, 10 figures, edited final versio
First search for gravitational waves from the youngest known neutron star
We present a search for periodic gravitational waves from the neutron star in the supernova remnant Cassiopeia
A. The search coherently analyzes data in a 12 day interval taken from the fifth science run of the Laser
Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory. It searches gravitational-wave frequencies from 100 to 300 Hz
and covers a wide range of first and second frequency derivatives appropriate for the age of the remnant and
for different spin-down mechanisms. No gravitational-wave signal was detected. Within the range of search
frequencies, we set 95% confidence upper limits of (0.7–1.2) × 10^(−24) on the intrinsic gravitational-wave
strain, (0.4–4) × 10^(−4) on the equatorial ellipticity of the neutron star, and 0.005–0.14 on the amplitude of
r-mode oscillations of the neutron star. These direct upper limits beat indirect limits derived from energy
conservation and enter the range of theoretical predictions involving crystalline exotic matter or runaway r-modes.
This paper is also the first gravitational-wave search to present upper limits on the r-mode amplitude
Search for gravitational waves from low mass compact binary coalescence in LIGO’s sixth science run and Virgo’s science runs 2 and 3
We report on a search for gravitational waves from coalescing compact binaries using LIGO and Virgo observations between July 7, 2009, and October 20, 2010. We searched for signals from binaries with total mass between 2 and 25M_⊙; this includes binary neutron stars, binary black holes, and binaries consisting of a black hole and neutron star. The detectors were sensitive to systems up to 40 Mpc distant for binary neutron stars, and further for higher mass systems. No gravitational-wave signals were detected. We report upper limits on the rate of compact binary coalescence as a function of total mass, including the results from previous LIGO and Virgo observations. The cumulative 90% confidence rate upper limits of the binary coalescence of binary neutron star, neutron star-black hole, and binary black hole systems are 1.3×10^(-4), 3.1×10^(-5), and 6.4×10^(-6) Mpc^(-3) yr^(-1), respectively. These upper limits are up to a factor 1.4 lower than previously derived limits. We also report on results from a blind injection challenge
