Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is currently the most common cause of dementia. A significant role in the pathogenesis of AD belongs to the activation of the mechanisms of neuroinflammation. There is a hypothesis that chronic infections may play a role in the maintenance of the inflammatory response in AD. The aim of this work was to study the detection rate and DNA level of herpesviruses, as well as their possible relationship with the level of the key cytokines and with clinical parameters of AD in patients with early and late onset. 30 patients with AD and 33 healthy volunteers were enrolled. The quantitative determination of DNA of CMV, EBV, HHV-6, HHV-7 was carried out by PCR. The level of cytokines and soluble IL-1β antagonist (IL-1ra) in the blood was determined by ELISA. Herpesvirus infection with increased viral load was determined if at least one of the criteria was present: 1) DNA level of EBV and/or HHV-6 > 10,000 copies/ml in saliva; 2) presence of DNA of at least one of the EBV, HHV-6, HHV-7 viruses in the blood. In the subgroup of patients with early onset and increased viral load, there was a higher increase in the levels of a number of cytokines: proinflammatory IL-8 and IL-12, a Th2-cytokine IL-4, a cytokine of the adaptive immune response IL-2. However, the level of the anti-inflammatory protein IL-1ra was lower than in the controls. These changes may indicate a dysregulation of the antiviral response, with a predominance of activation of systemic inflammation and Th2-mediated reactions. Also, in early onset AD the increased viral load was associated with lower scores on Boston naming test. The results indicate that in studies of AD mechanisms and in the search for prognostic markers of the disease, it is important to take into account the heterogeneity of AD in terms of genetic predisposition factors, risk factors, immune parameters and clinical data. Such approach is necessary for the subsequent development of personalized approaches to the prevention and treatment of AD

Mass and density of the transiting hot and rocky super-Earth LHS 1478 b (TOI-1640 b)

One of the main objectives of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite ({TESS}) mission is the discovery of small rocky planets around relatively bright nearby stars. Here, we report the discovery and characterization of the transiting super-Earth planet orbiting LHS~1478 (TOI-1640). The star is an inactive red dwarf (J9.6J \sim 9.6\,mag and spectral type m3\,V) with mass and radius estimates of 0.20±0.010.20\pm0.01\,MM_{\odot} and 0.25±0.010.25\pm0.01\,RR_{\odot}, respectively, and an effective temperature of 3381±543381\pm54\,K.It was observed by \tess in four sectors. These data revealed a transit-like feature with a period of 1.949 days. We combined the TESS data with three ground-based transit measurements, 57 radial velocity (RV) measurements from CARMENES, and 13 RV measurements from IRD, determining that the signal is produced by a planet with a mass of 2.330.20+0.202.33^{+0.20}_{-0.20}\,MM_{\oplus} and a radius of 1.240.05+0.051.24^{+0.05}_{-0.05}\,RR_{\oplus}. The resulting bulk density of this planet is 6.67\,g\,cm3^{-3}, which is consistent with a rocky planet with an Fe- and MgSiO3_3-dominated composition. Although the planet would be too hot to sustain liquid water on its surface (its equilibrium temperature is about \sim595\,K, suggesting a Venus-like atmosphere), spectroscopic metrics based on the capabilities of the forthcoming James Webb Space Telescope and the fact that the host star is rather inactive indicate that this is one of the most favorable known rocky exoplanets for atmospheric characterization.Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures, 6 tables, accepted for publication in A&

Aim. To study the clinical course specifics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and comorbid conditions in COVID-19 survivors 3, 6, 12 months after recovery in the Eurasian region according to the AKTIV register. Material and methods. The AKTIV register was created at the initiative of the Eurasian Association of Therapists. The AKTIV register is divided into 2 parts: AKTIV 1 and AKTIV 2. The AKTIV 1 register currently includes 6300 patients, while in AKTIV 2 — 2770. Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 receiving in- and outpatient treatment have been anonymously included on the registry. The following 7 countries participated in the register: Russian Federation, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Moldova, Republic of Uzbekistan. This closed multicenter register with two nonoverlapping branches (in- and outpatient branch) provides 6 visits: 3 in-person visits during the acute period and 3 telephone calls after 3, 6, 12 months. Subject recruitment lasted from June 29, 2020 to October 29, 2020. Register will end on October 29, 2022. A total of 9 fragmentary analyzes of the registry data are planned. This fragment of the study presents the results of the post-hospitalization period in COVID-19 survivors after 3 and 6 months. Results. According to the AKTIV register, patients after COVID-19 are characterized by long-term persistent symptoms and frequent seeking for unscheduled medical care, including rehospitalizations. The most common causes of unplanned medical care are uncontrolled hypertension (HTN) and chronic coronary artery disease (CAD) and/or decompensated type 2 diabetes (T2D). During 3- and 6-month follow-up after hospitalization, 5,6% and 6,4% of patients were diagnosed with other diseases, which were more often presented by HTN, T2D, and CAD. The mortality rate of patients in the post-hospitalization period was 1,9% in the first 3 months and 0,2% for 4-6 months. The highest mortality rate was observed in the first 3 months in the group of patients with class II-IV heart failure, as well as in patients with cardiovascular diseases and cancer. In the pattern of death causes in the post-hospitalization period, following cardiovascular causes prevailed (31,8%): acute coronary syndrome, stroke, acute heart failure. Conclusion. According to the AKTIV register, the health status of patients after COVID-19 in a serious challenge for healthcare system, which requires planning adequate health system capacity to provide care to patients with COVID-19 in both acute and post-hospitalization period

High pressures in the soil mass form the specific properties of the soil, in particular the effect on the particle size distribution. The purpose of the work is to assess the change in the granulometric composition of bentonite clay under the pressure. Experimental data on the pressure (P = 0-800 MPa) influence on the change in particle size distribution in clay samples from the deposit are presented. As a result of the experiment, two classes were identified in which the change in the content of fractions is different. These changes are due to the aggregation and dispersion of particles. Mathematical models have been calculated that make it possible to predict the content of fractions depending on the clay activation pressureВысокие давления, возникающие в грунтовом массиве, формируют особые свойства грунтов, в том числе влияют на гранулометрический состав.
