    ADRION : Charter routes from antiquity to modern times.

    The Adriatic Sea has always been a busy sea from every point of view. Egidio Ivetich explains it well in an essay presented in this volume and in one of his recent works called “History of the Adriatic”. The traffic in this Sea can be measured according to the number of ships that, before the pandemic, used to land and depart from the Adriatic ports: more than 40.000 in total. An impressive number especially if compared to its Western sibling, the Tyrrhenian Sea whose yachting traffics are more intense. If we compare the current situation with a not too distant past, we can understand how the role of this “liquid territory” (a neologism invented by the memorable Fernand Braudel) - as a system of relationships- has not changed much. An immense “space-movement”, an impressive traffic system made of liquid plains connected through a series of wide or narrow doors. Herodotus, who believed the Adriatic was not a sea but rather a piece of land, was the first one to recognize the ambivalence of this Sea whose function has always been to connect rather than divide

    Sport and deradicalization: a proposal for an analysis and prevention model

    Based on Bronfenbrenner’s (1979) ecological model, this article focus- es on the multidimensionality of radicalization and its relationship with community culture by observing the problem of social isolation. In this framework, sports pro- vide contexts in which forms of social collaboration are necessary, the “rules of the game” must be embraced, and there is close interaction among fellow players. These characteristics can turn organized sports into observatories on (potential) juvenile radicalization through identifying “early warning signals” that are mainly detected by observing those conducts that may reveal a potential risk. In the provided extensive literature review, it comes that these signs can be traced, for instance, in the lack of self-esteem, in the absence of significant bonds, in the intolerance towards values, as well as in extreme introverted behaviour of the young subjects. Alongside such premises, this paper aims to understand whether and to what extent it is possible to hypothesize the shaping of strategies able to prevent radicalization in various con- texts.     Relativistic Description of Exclusive Semileptonic Decays of Heavy Mesons

    Using quasipotential approach, we have studied exclusive semileptonic decays of heavy mesons with the account of relativistic effects. Due to more complete relativistic description of the ss quark more precise expressions for semileptonic form factors are obtained. Various differential distributions in exclusive semileptonic decays of heavy mesons are calculated. It is argued that consistent account of relativistic effects and HQET motivated choice of the parameters of quark-antiquark potential allow to get reliable value for the ratio A2(0)/A1(0)A_2(0)/A_1(0) in the D→K∗lÎœlD\to K^*l\nu_l decay as well as the ratio~Γ(D→K∗lÎœl)/Γ(D→KlÎœl)\Gamma(D\to K^*l\nu_l)/\Gamma(D\to Kl\nu_l).     Weak Phase Îł\gamma From Ratio of B→KπB \to K \pi Rates

    The ratio of partial decay rates for charged and neutral BB mesons to KπK \pi final states provides information on the weak phase γ≡Arg(Vub∗)\gamma \equiv {\rm Arg} (V_{ub}^*) when augmented with information on the CP-violating asymmetry in the K±π∓K^\pm \pi^\mp mode. The requirements for a useful determination of Îł\gamma are examined in the light of present information about the decays B0→K+π−B^0 \to K^+ \pi^-, B+→K0π+B^+ \to K^0 \pi^+, and the corresponding charge-conjugate modes. The effects of electroweak penguins and rescattering corrections are noted, and proposals are made for estimating and measuring their importance.Comment: 16 pages, latex, 3 figures, revised version sent to Phys.     Momentum Distribution in the Decay B-->J/psi+X

    We combine the NRQCD formalism for the inclusive color singlet and octet production of charmonium states with the parton and the ACCMM model, respectively, and calculate the momentum distribution in the decay B-->J/psi+X. Neglecting the kinematics of soft gluon radiation, we find that the motion of the b quark in the bound state can account, to a large extent, for the observed spectrum. The parton model gives a satisfactory presentation of the data, provided that the heavy quark momentum distribution is taken to be soft. To be explicit, we obtain epsilon_p=O(0.008-0.012) for the parameter of the Peterson et al. distribution function. The ACCMM model can account for the data more accurately. The preferred Fermi momentum p_F=O(0.57 GeV) is in good agreement with recent studies of the heavy quark's kinetic energy.Comment: revised version to be published in Phys. Rev.     A Measurement of the D∗±D^{*\pm} Cross Section in Two-Photon Processes

    We have measured the inclusive D∗±D^{*\pm} production cross section in a two-photon collision at the TRISTAN e+e−e^+e^- collider. The mean s\sqrt{s} of the collider was 57.16 GeV and the integrated luminosity was 150 pb−1pb^{-1}. The differential cross section (dσ(D∗±)/dPTd\sigma(D^{*\pm})/dP_T) was obtained in the PTP_T range between 1.6 and 6.6 GeV and compared with theoretical predictions, such as those involving direct and resolved photon processes.Comment: 8 pages, Latex format (article), figures corrected, published in Phys.     Charm production in nonresonant e(+)e(-) annihilations at √s =10.55 GeV

    This is the publisher's version also available electronically from http://journals.aps.org/prd/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevD.37.1719We report results on the differential and total cross sections for inclusive production of the charmed particles D*+, D*(0), D(0), D(+), D(s), and Λc in e(+)e(-) annihilations at √s=10.55 GeV. Widely used quark fragmentation models are discussed and compared with the measured charmed-particle momentum distributions. This comparison, as well as that with measurements at other center-of-mass energies, shows the need to take QCD corrections into account and their importance for a correct interpretation of the model parameters. The observed rate of D(0) and D(+) production is compared to the expected total charm production cross section. We measure the probability of a charmed meson being produced as a vector meson and the D*(+) decay branching fraction into D(0)π+

    Heavy Quark Symmetry Violation in Semileptonic Decays of D Mesons

    The decays of DD mesons to KlÎœK l \nu and K∗lÎœK^* l \nu final states exhibit significant deviations from the predictions of heavy-quark symmetry, as one might expect since the strange quark's mass is of the same order as the QCD scale. Nonetheless, in order to understand where the most significant effects might lie for heavier systems (such as B→DlÎœB \to D l\nu and B→D∗lÎœB \to D^* l\nu), the pattern of these deviations is analyzed from the standpoint of perturbative QCD and O(1/ms){\cal O}(1/m_s) corrections. Two main effects are noted. First, the perturbative QCD corrections lead to an overall decrease of predicted rates, which can be understood in terms of production of excited kaonic states. Second, O(1/ms){\cal O}(1/m_s) effects tend to cancel the perturbative QCD corrections in the case of KlÎœKl\nu decay, while they have minimal effect in K∗lÎœK^*l\nu decay.Comment: 25 pages (LaTeX) + 7 pages of Postscript figures (included at end), EFI-92-3
