    HSAS: Hindi Subjectivity Analysis System

    With the development of Web 2.0, we are abundant with the documents expressing user's opinions, attitudes and sentiments in the textual form. This user generated textual content is an important source of information to make sound decisions by the organizations and the government. The textual information can be categorized into two types: facts and opinions. Subjectivity analysis is the automatic extraction of subjective information from the opinions posted by users and divides the content into subjective and objective sentences. Most of the works in subjectivity analysis exists for English language data but with the introduction of unicode standards UTF-8, Hindi language content on the web is growing very rapidly. In this paper, Hindi Subjectivity Analysis System (HSAS) is proposed. It explores two different methods of generating subjectivity lexicon using the available resources in English language and their comparative evaluation in performing the task of subjectivity analysis at the sentence level. The first method uses English language OpinionFinder subjectivity lexicon. The second method uses a small seed word list of Hindi language and expands it to generate subjectivity lexicon. Different evaluation strategies are used to validate the lexicon. We achieved 71.4% agreement with human annotators and ~80% accuracy in classification on a parallel data set in English and Hindi. Extensive simulations conducted on the test dataset confirm the validity of the suggested method

    This paper is a Fourier–series assisted numerical study of two–dimensional steady thermal convection in micropolar fluid occupying a rectangular box. The horizontal walls of the cavity are uniformly heated to establish a linear temperature in the vertical direction. The vertical walls are insulated. The critical Rayleigh number is obtained numerically as a function of coupling parameter, couple stress parameter and aspect ratio, and the same is plotted graphically. The results of slender vertical, rectangular and square box of finite aspect ratio are obtained as limiting cases of the study

    A comparative clinical study on Brihmana effect of Ashwagandhaadya Ghrita Snehanapana and Matra Basti in Karshya w.s.r. to Under Weight

    Background: Karshya as per classics has Shushkasphik, Udara, Greeva, Dhamanijalasantata, Twagasthishesha, Kshuda, Pipasa, Sheeta, Ushna, Vayu, Varsha, Bharadan Asahishnuta and it is similar to the clinical features of under-weight/under nourishment includes loss of weight, muscle wasting, loss of subcutaneous fat, stress, fatigue and general weakness. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted as a randomized clinical trial and carried out in the Dept. of Panchakarma during the year 2016 - 2018. Patients with Dourbalya and anxious to gain weight were included in the study. Their age group was in between 18-45 years. 30 patients who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected for the study. Patients were randomly allocated into two groups. Group A and Group B. In patients of Group A, Ashwagandhadya Ghrita as Brimhana Snehana 1 Pala i.e. 48ml daily in two divided doses for 15 days with Ushnodaka. In Group B, Ashwagandhadya Ghrita as Matra Basti i.e. 50ml daily for 15 days. Results: Statistically, Body weight is highly significant at the level of p<0.001.     Comparative study between open versus laparoscopic inguinal hernioplasty

    Background: Inguinal hernia repair is one of the commonly performed procedure and has undergone a paradigm shift from open to laparoscopic approach in the era of minimally invasive surgery but the superiority is still debatable. The aim was to compare open (Lichtenstein) versus laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal approach (TAPP) hernia repair techniques. Methods: A total of 60 patients were enrolled in the study and divided into two equal groups (open versus laparoscopic) were compared. Results: It was observed that laparoscopic repair (TAPP) has statistically significant superiority than open inguinal hernioplasty in terms of lesser post-operative pain (VAS score of 4.8±0.66, 3.67±0.66, 2.53±0.82 versus 6.7±0.92, 5.03±0.72, 3.83±0.65 at 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours post operatively, p value <0.001), shorter duration of hospital stay (3.1±0.71 days versus 5.83±0.75 days, p value <0.001) and early resumption to regular activities (10.57±2.28 days versus 12.2±1.52 days, p value 0.002). It also showed that incidence intra operative and post-operative complications was lesser in laparoscopic group but not statistically significant. Whereas duration of surgery was prolonged in laparoscopic group (104±27.49 min versus 61.5±17.08 min, p value <0.001). Conclusions: Laparoscopic inguinal hernioplasty (TAPP) is superior to open inguinal hernioplasty in terms of lesser intra operative and post-operative complications, lesser post-operative pain, shorter duration of hospital stay with early resumption to regular activities having better subjective and objective cosmetic results in short term follow-up. However, duration of surgery was prolonged on comparison with Lichtenstein open inguinal hernioplasty

    FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF SIMVASTATIN GASTRORETENTIVE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

    Objective: The aim of this study was to formulate and evaluate gastro retentive drug delivery system (GRRDS) using an effervescent approach for simvastatin.Methods: Floating tablets were prepared using directly compressible polymers hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) K100M, HPMC K4M and carboxymethylcellulose sodium (NaCMC). The prepared tablets were subjected to pre-formulation studies like Compressibility index, Hausner ratio and post compression parameters like buoyancy/floating test and In vitro dissolution study.Results: Drug-excipient compatibility studies performed with the help of FTIR instrument indicated that there were no interactions. The DSC thermogram of the formulations revealed that crystalline form of simvastatin existed in the formulation which was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction. Dissolution studies indicated that there was a decrease in the drug release with an increase in the polymer viscosity. The tablets prepared with low-viscosity grade HPMC K4M exhibited short Buoyancy Lag Time and floated for a longer duration as compared with formulations containing high viscosity grade HPMC K100M. The ‘n' value for dissolution studies for all the formulations was found to be in the range of 0.647 to 0.975 indicating non-Fickian or anomalous drug transport. Conclusion: The drug release rate and floating duration of tablets depended on the nature of the polymer and other added excipients. The release rate of the drug can be optimized by using different ratios of polymers and other excipients. The formulation F8 achieved the optimized batch and complied with all the properties of the tablets

    A framework for evaluating automatic image annotation algorithms

    Several Automatic Image Annotation (AIA) algorithms have been introduced recently, which have been found to outperform previous models. However, each one of them has been evaluated using either different descriptors, collections or parts of collections, or "easy" settings. This fact renders their results non-comparable, while we show that collection-specific properties are responsible for the high reported performance measures, and not the actual models. In this paper we introduce a framework for the evaluation of image annotation models, which we use to evaluate two state-of-the-art AIA algorithms. Our findings reveal that a simple Support Vector Machine (SVM) approach using Global MPEG-7 Features outperforms state-of-the-art AIA models across several collection settings. It seems that these models heavily depend on the set of features and the data used, while it is easy to exploit collection-specific properties, such as tag popularity especially in the commonly used Corel 5K dataset and still achieve good performance

    Homologous recombination in mycobacteria

    In recent years, considerable effort and resources have been expended to develop targeted gene delivery methods, and generation of auxotrophic mutants of mycobacteria. The results of these studies suggest that mycobacteria exhibit a wide range of recombination rates, which vary from loci to loci. Here we review the methods developed for allele exchange and targeted gene disruption as well as the mechanistic aspects of homologous recombination in mycobacteria. The results of whole genome, functional and structural analyses of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium smegmatis RecA and SSB proteins provide insights into variations of the prototypic Escherichia coli paradigm. This variation of a common theme might allow mycobacteria to function in their natural but complex physiological environments

    CAS-DSM: A Compiler Assisted Software Distributed Shared Memory

    Traditional software Distributed Shared Memory (DSM) systems rely on the virtual memory management mechanisms to detect accesses to shared memory locations and maintain their consistency. The resulting involvement of the OS (kernel) and the associated overhead which is significant, can be avoided by careful compile time analysis and code instrumentation. In this paper, we propose such a Compiler Assisted Software support approach (CAS-DSM). In the CAS-DSM implementation, the involvement of the OS kernel is avoided by instrumenting the application code at the source level. The overhead caused by the execution of the instrumented code is reduced through several aggressive compile time optimizations. Finally, we also address the issue of reducing certain overheads in polling-based implementation of receiving asynchronous messages. We used SUIF, a public domain compiler tool, to implement compile time analysis, instrumentation and optimizations. We modified CVM, a publicly available software DSM to support the instrumentation inserted by the compiler. Detailed performance evaluation of CAS-DSM is reported using a set of Splash/Splash2 parallel application benchmarks on a distributed memory IBM SP-2 machine. CAS-DSM achieved moderate to good performance improvements for most of the applications compared to the original CVM implementation. Reducing the overheads in polling-based implementation improves the performance of CAS-DSM significantly resulting in an overall improvement of 12–52% over the original CVM implementation.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/44573/1/10766_2004_Article_482234.pd
