GlcNAcilació del domini únic de la proteïna Lyn A de la família Src

    Get PDF
Treballs Finals de Grau de Química, Facultat de Química, Universitat de Barcelona, Any: 2018, Tutor: Miquel Pons VallèsLyn is a protein member of the Src family of non-receptor tyrosine kinases (SFK). These proteins are involved in cell signalling pathways related to cell growth, migration, invasion, and survival. Lyn mediates the induction of apoptosis. Lyn tyrosine kinase exists as two isoforms, Lyn A and Lyn B of 56 and 53 kDa, respectively. These isoforms differ by a 21-aa insert found in the N-terminal unique domain of Lyn A. In this research, the whole protein Lyn A will not be studied, the focus will be on the Unique and SH3 domain. O-GlcNAcylation is a post-translational modification that involves the attachment of single O-linked N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) moieties to Ser and Thr residues of cytoplasmic, nuclear and mitochondrial proteins, by an enzymatic reaction with OGT enzyme. Phosphorylation can also target Ser and Thr residues, then, between O-GlcNAcylation and phosphorylation exists and intensive and complex interplay. O-GlcNAcylation has been proposed to function as a nutrient and stress sensor that regulates cellular processes. In this research, the O-GlcNAcylation of Lyn A will be studied by performing an enzymatic linked assay of NADH/NAD+. To do so, USH3LynA protein and OGT enzyme will be expressed by E. coli and purifie

Treballs Finals de Grau de Matemàtiques, Facultat de Matemàtiques, Universitat de Barcelona, Any: 2022, Director: Josep Vives i Santa Eulàlia i Jordi Vitrià i Marca[en] In this project we study three different models of artificial intelligence to carry out the process of sentiment analysis, which consists of determining the polarity of a text; that is, detecting whether it is positive, negative or neutral. The first model studied is a neural network, specifically a long short-term memory, which uses deep learning techniques. We delve deeper into the study of its structure and operation, unmasking all the mathematics behind it. The other two models belong to machine learning: logistic regression and Naive Bayes. We emphasize the study of its parameters and optimization, with the intention to understand the learning process of each one. Finally, we apply the results and techniques developed to implement a Python program with each model in order to detect the sentiment of thousands of reviews from social media of different bars and restaurants. We dedicate a whole chapter to give the results, the analysis of each one and a comparison between them

Màster d'Enginyeria Ambiental, Facultat de Química, Universitat de Barcelona, Curs: 2015-2016, Tutors: Pilar Marco Buj, Bernardí Bayarri FerrerScientific studies on photocatalysis started about two and a half decades ago. Titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is one of the most basic materials in our daily life, has emerged as an excellent photocatalyst material for environmental purification. In this study, current progress in the area of TiO2 photocatalysis, mainly photocatalytic air and water purification are discussed together with some fundamental aspects. In the air purification line it was set-up an installation for descontamination of toluene in gas phase. It was explained the experimental method to carry out different experiments and the experiments performed. Moreover, it was created a new chromatographic method to analyze toluene in GC-2010. Best results showed 97% of recovery with 0.5 L/min of toluene during 10 minutes and it desorbed with Vortex during 10 minutes without photocatalytic reaction. But after some deficiencies were found in the installation and in this work it were proposed some enhancement options to study different variables involved in photocatalytic process in gas phase (photolysis, adsorption, total flow rate, radiation and concentration of pollutant). In the water purification line the degradation of diphenhydramine hydrochloride (DPH) by TiO2 photocatalysis was studied under different radiation sources: UVC (λ=254 nm), black blue lamps (BLB, λ=365 nm), simulated solar radiation (SB, Solarbox) and CPCs, at pilot plant scale with sunlight. Photolysis shows an important role in the DPH abatement under UVC radiation (31.5% of DPH conversion) but mineralization was not observed. Different TiO2 concentrations (0.05, 0.1 and 0.4 g/L) were used in SB device and the best results were obtained for 0.4 g/L: 35.7% of DPH conversion and 9.8% of TOC removal, after 60 min of irradiation. The UV-Vis/H2O2/TiO2 process represents an improvement with respect to the photocatalytic process (without H2O2). Thus, at 60 min with 150 mg/L of H2O2, 62.6% of DPH conversion (kinetic constant 15.05 ·10-3 h-1) in SB was achieved instead of 35.7% obtained without H2O2. Concerning the energy consumption in the useful wavelength range, SB and BLB reactors displayed the best ratios (mg DPH removed/kJ): 0.10 and 0.12, respectively, with 0.4 g/L of TiO2. Finally, reaction intermediates were identified and DPH photo-degradation pathway was proposed. Keywords: air purification, water purification, toluene, diphenhydramine hydrochloride, titanium dioxide, UVC, BLB, SB, CPC

La integración del alumnado inmigrante. Estudio comparativo según su procedencia

    Get PDF

Do female motives for enrolling vary according to STEM profile?

    Get PDF
Contribution: Stereotypes and immediate environment are the reasons for low enrollment of women in STEM studies. Background: The low number of women in STEM degree courses has been the subject of much research, which has found that the lack of female enrollment is not evenly distributed across all STEM studies. In some areas, such as computing, communications, and electrical and electronic engineering (CCEEE), not only has the number of women not increased, it has even fallen. Research Questions: Is there a stereotype for women taking STEM studies? Is this stereotype different between women taking CCEEE and non-CCEEE degrees? What are the main reasons that lead women to enroll in STEM studies? Methodology: A survey was sent to 3699 female students and STEM graduates belonging to the authors’ university in six schools with a lowest level of enrollment, and 1060 replies were received. A qualitative study based on data analysis triangulation was performed. Findings: The women surveyed consider social stereotypes (31.47%) and the immediate environment (14.5%) as the main reasons for the low enrollment of women in STEM studies. Surprisingly, the third reason (11.03%) is that women do not like engineering. New knowledge concerning what motivates female students to enroll in STEM studies, what stereotypes they must struggle against, and the existence of possible differences between CCEEE and STEM but non-CCEEE female students could help policy makers and academia to improve female enrollment in STEM and, in particular, in CCEEE studies.Peer ReviewedPostprin
