“Naturalness” in Japanese Satsuma Ceramics of the Second Half of the XIX — Early XX Century

Eastern cultures are characterized by a way of knowing the world, based on the perception of things in their natural integrity, the desire to understand the inner essence of the object. Naturalness expressed in different concepts is present in all manifestations of Japanese arts. In ceramics, it is related to the tea ceremony, the aesthetic categories of «wabi» and «sabi», the shape and handling of the material. Potteries in Satsuma province, after entering the international market and working with European orders, embody a different order of naturalness in their products.

PROSPECTS FOR USE RARE EARTH METAL OXIDES NANOPARTICLES IN BIOLOGY AND MEDICINE

Rare earth metal dioxide nanoparticles are promising as analogs of biological enzymes. The main research problem is the high dependence on both the structure of nanoparticles and the reaction conditions. Research is aimed at identifying the optimal structure of nanoparticles and environment

REDUCE THE TOXICITY OF ZINC OXIDE BY MODIFYING THE APPLIED SURFACE OF SILICON OXIDE

Despite the widespread use of zinc oxide nanoparticles in the chemical industry, electronics, medicine and cosmetology, the compound has high toxicity to humans and the environment. One way to reduce toxicity is the application layer of SiO2 on nanoparticles ZnO.SiO2/ZnO nanoparticles moderated the toxicity of ZnO by restricting free radical formation and the release of zinc ions, and decreasing surface contact with cells

Optical and luminescent properties of ceria nanoparticles produced by gas phase method

The study on luminescent and optical properties of ceria nanoparticles allow one to indirectly assess the defectiveness of the material crystal lattice. The decomposition of the luminescence spectrum in the Gaussian bands shows the presence of Ce3+ ions in the CeO2 crystal lattice, as well as optical active centers, probably associated with oxygen vacancies. These characteristics permit us to estimate the relative amount of Ce3+ ions in the crystal lattice and could be considered as an important prerequisite for the use of nanoparticles as redox agents in industry and medicine. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.Russian Science Foundation, RSF: 18-72-00041The work was supported by Russian Science Foundation project № 18-72-00041

Modifying the surface of cerium oxide nanopowders produced by physical method

Cerium oxide nanoparticles present an interesting material for different industrial applications in biotechnology and medicine. The CeO2 nanopowder was produced by the method of pulsed electron evaporation of ceramic oxide targets with condensation of the vapors in a low pressure gas. The modification of nanoparticle surface was made with sodium citrate and N-phosphonomethylaminodiacetic acid. The stable aqueous suspensions of CeO2 nanoparticles could not be obtained in the work. This is probably due to the high hydrophobic properties of the nanoparticle surface. The cerium oxide nanoparticles with different stabilizers exhibit luminescence properties. © 2019 Author(s)

Effect of Cerium Dioxide Nanoparticles Doping with Rare Earth Metal Ions on the Biocatalytic Activity

Nanocrystalline ceria takes active part in redox processes. Doping with rare earth ions modifies biocatalytic activity due to the change of the surface oxidation level and the number of oxygen vacancies. The results of a study of catalytic activity of pure and doped CeO2 nanoparticles are presented
