A new automated compact substation for distribution system in Malaysia
This project has developed a new distribution automation system and remote metering system. It is a
customized distribution automation system (DAS) for secure fault isolation at the low voltage (LV)
downstream, 415/240V by using the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) distribution system. It is the first
DAS research work done on customer side substation for operating and controlling between the consumer
side system and the substation in an automated manner. Most of the work is focused on developing very
secure fault isolation whereby the fault is detected, identified, isolated and cleared in few seconds.
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) techniques has been utilized to build Human
Machine Interface (HMI) that provides a graphical operator interface functions to monitor and control the
system. Microprocessor based Remote Monitoring Devices have been used for customized software to be
downloaded to the hardware. Power Line Carrier (PLC) has been used as communication media between the consumer and the substation. As result, complete DAS fault isolation system has been developed for
cost reduction, maintenance time saving and less human intervention during faults. This research has
developed Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system in addition to DAS
Mental Health Of International Students During The Covid-19 Pandemic
This study aimed to explore the experience of international students along with possible
mental struggles faced by international students throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, this purpose of this study is to identify the coping mechanisms utilized by
international students in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic. The coronavirus was first
detected in Wuhan, China in late December of 2019. In the following year, the WHO
has officially declared a pandemic which led to multiple countries going in nationwide
lockdown and mandating masks. In Malaysia, the movement control order (MCO) was
first imposed by the Malaysian government for two weeks. However, coronavirus cases
have yet to slow down which lead to multiple extensions of the MCO. With universities
switching to online learning as an attempt to reduce the number of infections, many
international students abroad are left stranded in a foreign country where they are not
able to return home to visit their families
Novel Automated Fault Isolation System on Low Voltage Distribution Automation System
This novel automated fault isolation system has been developed and integrated into a new customer side distribution system of 415/240V. The distribution system is based on the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the Malaysia's power utility company especially the distribution system. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Remote Terminal Unit (RTUs) and power line communication (PLC) system have been used and developed for detecting, fault locating, fault isolating, fault segregating and power restoration in terms of hardware and software. Open loop distribution system is the distribution configuration system used as TNB distribution system. It is the first distribution automation system (DAS) based on fault management research work on customer side substation for operating and controlling betweenthe consumer side system and the substation
