Measurement of single event upsets in the ALICE-TPC front-end electronics

The Time Projection Chamber of the ALICE experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider features highly integrated on-detector read-out electronics. It is following the general trend of high energy physics experiments by placing the front-end electronics as close to the detector as possible -- only some 10 cm away from its active volume. Being located close to the beams and the interaction region, the electronics is subject to a moderate radiation load, which allowed us to use commercial off-the-shelf components. However, they needed to be selected and qualified carefully for radiation hardness and means had to be taken to protect their functionality against soft errors, i.e. single event upsets. Here we report on the first measurements of LHC induced radiation effects on ALICE front-end electronics and on how they attest to expectations

Penerapan Metode Mind Mapping dalam Cerita Legenda “Batu Karang Igomu” Suku Meyah sebagai Alternatif Peningkatan Kemampuan Membaca Pemahaman

This paper aims to reveal the application of mind mapping method proposed by Buzan (2008) in which mind mapping can help students in many ways such as: to plan, to communicate, to be creative, to solve problem, to focus, to organize and to finish thought, to remember well, to learn more quickly and efficiently and to train the whole picture of the story. The fact illustrates that the level of reading ability has declined. The decline is also balanced by a decreasing in the level of students\u27 understanding on reading text which is being read. To that end, the selection of the legend of Papua folklore “Rock Igomu” coming from Meyah in Manokwari, as a learning medium to improve the ability of reading comprehension can be based on the primary assumption that the context of everyday lives of students or learners has been familiar and fused with the legend. In addition, the selection of this legend can increase students\u27 or learners\u27 treasure of knowledge or cognition as Papuanchildren who are the next generation and the heir of the story

Prediction of Natural Gas Compressibility Factor in a Single-Phase Gas Reservoir: A Comparative Study

Natural gas compressibility factor plays important roles in pipeline design, reserve estimation and gas metering. The aim of this study is to presents the most accurate and reliable method of computing gas compressibility factor in a single-phase gas reservoir at various reservoir pressures. In this study, the gas compositions and the specific gravity of the respective gas compounds were retrieved from literatures. This specific gravity determine the pseudo critical and the pseudo reduced properties (temperature and pressure) of the respective gas compounds being studied. The predicted methods studied are Papay correlation, Hall-Yarborough equation of state (EOS), viral EOS, Beggs and Brill and Dranchuk-Abu-Kassem correlation. The methods are expressed as functions of the pseudo-reduced temperature and pressure, thereby predicting the compressibility factor of the predicted methods. The accuracy and the performance of the methods were tested by comparing the results obtained from the methods studied with experimental z-factor values obtained from the literatures. The experimental z-factor values were set as standard for the predicted methods studied. Six (6) statistical parameters and various charts (line and column charts) were used to attest the effectiveness and the precision of the methods. The statistical tools are average absolute error (AAE), average absolute relative error (AARE), root mean square error (RMSE), residual sum of square (RSS), mean square error (MSE) and coefficient of determination (R2). The results of the study shows that, the Papay correlation has the highest coefficient of regression, R2= 92%, rated as the most accurate, reliable and best method. The Hall-Yarborough equation of state has R2 of 86%. The Viral equation of state has R2 of 83%. The Beggs and Brill correlation has R2 of 42%. The Dranchuk-Abu-Kassem correlation has R2 of 10.5%. The Beggs and Brills correlation method is not suitable for application, if the pseudo-reduced pressure is less than 0.92. The Dranchuk-Abu-Kassem correlation is only applicable, if the pseudo-reduced properties are within the range of 0.2<Ppr<15, 1.0<Tpr<3.0. The Hall-Yarborough equation of state cannot be used if the pseudo-reduced temperature is less than one

Body Weight Prediction in Nigeria Goats using Body Measurements of Different Age, Sex and Breeds

Data collected from 900 goats sampled from Borno, Sokoto and Ogun States from three different breeds on the following metric characters: Body Weight (BW), Age, Horn Length (HL), Ear length (EL), Shoulder width (SW), Neck circumference (NC), body length (BL), Withers Height (WH), Heart Girth (HG), Pouch Girth (PG), Tail Length (TL) and Scrotal circumference (SC) were subjected to stepwise multiple linear regression. Results obtained showed Live weight changes with body measurements were poorly to highly predictable with R2 values ranging between 0.000 - 0.031 in animals < 1 year old, 0.000-0.241in animals 1-2 years and 0.000-0.658 in animals 2 years and above. It was thus concluded that the low, moderate and high predictive power obtained from this study might be due to instability of regression coefficient at different ages and points also to decreasing environmental impact on growth with increase in age

Faktor-Faktor Customer Experience Management Yang Berpengaruh Terhadap Peningkatan Citra Telkom Speedy Pada PT TELKOM Kandatel Bekasi

Speedy as PT. Telkom Product is facing a high competition in internet services provider business. The product functional value is not sufficient to win the competition but it is need the internet service image as product image. Nowadays, Consumer perspective about product image is determined by their experiences. This is the reason behind Customer Experience Management (CEM) which defines as a process of managing customer experiences through company products or services. The factors of CEM are product, service, channel, promotion and brand. The research objectives at PT. Telkom Kandatel Bekasi are (1) to identify CEM factors of SPEEDY (2) to identify which CEM factors are influencing product image, (3) to indentify dominant CEM factor which influencing product imager (4) to recommend the effective implementation of CEM. The research showed 68,8 percent CEM factors were influencing Telkom Speedy image, which there are three factors e.g. product, promotion and brand were partially influenced Telkom Speedy image. Product was the most dominant factors of CEM which influenced image. The research recommended PT. Telkom to improve the quality of Telkom Speedy through speed of internet access improvement, front liners services, and promotion, to manage customer experience

Productivity in Food Crops Production: Evidence from Makueni County, Kenya

The objective of this study was to determine the level of productivity in food crops production and establish its determinants among smallholders in Makueni County, Kenya. The study used primary data collected through one on one interviews with 100 farming households in Kaiti Constituency. Average productivity for each household in food production was computed and regressed on demographic and farm characteristics. Findings show that on average households made Kshs.21, 940 from food production in the given cropping season. For the households that rely exclusively on farming, the productivity per person was below what is required to spend to be out of poverty. Regression results indicated that; age of the household head, cultivation of own land, farming experience, access to extension services, use of high mechanized farming tools and close proximity to a market place had a positive influence on the household food crop productivity. The findings imply that, establishing rural markets within villages at a close proximity to farming households and increased engagement of extension officers from the county government to equip farmers with knowledge and skills on farming technologies can be useful strategies for enhancing food productivity and security in Makueni County.
