Creating an Online Literary and Arts Journal: An Interdisciplinary Use of Technology and Web-based Resources

    Get PDF
Our overall goal for this project is to create a website that builds an increased awareness of Pace’s literary magazine, VOX Arts & Literary Journal. Over the years, the paper version of the magazine although somewhat effective, has become lacking in certain areas. We wanted to create something that would really get Vox’s name out there and generate more involvement from the students as well as faculty and administrators. We felt that by having a website, students and faculty can post and submit their works all year round, instead of twice a year as it is now. With more submission options such as posting poetry, prose, artwork, and other such pieces, more students and faculty would submit more works

A Hands One Workshop on Computer Security Tools for Classroom Instruction

    Get PDF
In the last ten years, the Internet has become an important component of the global economy and security has emerged as a important part of the Information Technology professions. It is clear that universities and colleges must start preparing professionals ready to take on these challenges in the workplace. NSA is actively encouraging universities and colleges to start new courses and programs in information assurance and recently, Pace University was awarded designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by NSA. This ½ day hands-on workshop will very briefly overview basic security issues (e.g. security policies and management, firewalls, host security, cryptography, application security, incident and disaster response, Social Engineering). Participants will learn a number of tools which are used in our introductory courses

Retrospective subjective evaluation of aesthetic outcome in secondary cleft lip deformities operated with Abbe’s flap

Background:The Abbe’s flap is most commonly used to repair the full thickness defects of the lip that do not involve the commissure. The Abbe flap was first introduced to correct the secondary deformity of bilateral cleft lip. By this pedicled flap, we are able to equalize the disparity which existed between the tight upper lip and excessive lower lip. Aims to study retrospective subjective evaluation of aesthetic outcome in secondary cleft lip deformities operated with Abbe’s flap.Methods:29 patients operated during the period of January 2007 - December 2011 for correction of secondary cleft lip and nasal deformity with Abbe’s flap with or without rhinoplasty were included in our retrospective study. The secondary corrective surgeries were performed by a single surgeon. The photographs of the patients were retrospectively assessed by two plastic surgeons and one oral and maxillofacial surgeon, other than the one who performed the surgery. 29 patients operated during the period of January 2007 - December 2011 for correction of secondary cleft lip and nasal deformity with Abbe’s flap with or without rhinoplasty were included in our retrospective study. The photographs of the patients were retrospectively assessed by two plastic surgeons and one oral and maxillofacial surgeon, other than the one who performed the surgery. Results:Out of 29 patients with secondary cleft deformities 12 were male and 17 were female. Average follow up period was 3 years. Multiple variables of the nose and the lips were used to assess the aesthetic outcome of Abbe’s flap. Conclusion:As per the subjective retrospective analysis of our study we have come to the conclusion that Abbe’s flap is a work horse for correction of shortage of tissue for the secondary cleft lip deformities. Uniform satisfactory outcome was obtained with a more natural contour and more satisfactory proportion of both lips.

Unusual presentation of mesenteric cyst in a 3-year-old child - A case report

Mesenteric lymphatic cysts are rare congenital benign malformations of the lymphatic system. Rarely, the wall of the lymphatic cyst can undergo calcification mimicking other conditions. In the literature, about six cases of calcified lymphatic cyst have been reported. Here, we present the case of a 3-year-old child who presented with vague abdominal pain and diagnosed to have an intra-abdominal calcified cyst. On exploration, the cyst was arising from the mesentery and the child required excision of the cyst with the involved intestine. The biopsy was suggestive of a mesenteric lymphatic cyst

On an exactly solvable BNB_N type Calogero model with nonhermitian PT invariant interaction

An exactly solvable many-particle quantum system is proposed by adding some nonhermitian but PT invariant interactions to the BNB_N Calogero model. We have shown that such extended BNB_N Calogero model leads to completely real spectrum which obey generalised exclusion statistics. It is also found that the corresponding exchange statistics parameter exhibit `reflection symmetry' provided the strength of a PT invariant interaction exceeds a critical value.Comment: Revtex, 13 pages, No figures, Minor changes, Version to appear in Phys.
