Change Management Strategies in ERP Implementations: A Case Study
While considered as the backbone of organizations, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems tend to face resistance from potential users. Managing such resistance is imperative to the success of the implementation project. After surveying the literature landscape on change management strategies in ERP software system implementations, we employ Aladwaniâs conceptual model to codify the activities followed by a public organization in the implementation of its SAP ERP system. We found that the change management activities the organization employed neatly fit the think-feel-do framework proposed by Aladwaniâs model. We also present contextual factors that may explain this fit, thus adding to the scant empirical data on the application and potential robustness of this model
Towards the Adoption of e-Refereeing and e-Ticketing in Elite Soccer Championships: an Institutional Perspective
Although the role of IT is salient in sporting mega-events (e.g. instant replay, goal-line technology), IS research has not yet paid any attention to the processes by which technologies are selected for and implemented at these mega-events, the strategies used by actors, nor the consequences of such implementations on actors in related sectors and industries. To tackle this underdeveloped research topic, we focus on the last three UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) soccer championships (2000, 2004, 2008) and we describe how some technologies are adopted (e.g., e-ticketing) while others (e.g., e-refereeing) are not. With an overall goal of deepening our understanding of IT-related institutional work surrounding mega-events in general and sporting mega-events in particular, our objective is to better comprehend the role and actions of institutional entrepreneurs in the selection and implementation of IT for sporting mega-events
SAP et l'Intégration Inter-Organisationnelle
SAP is renowned for its main product SAP R/3, an Enterprise Resource Planning system. Recently, SAP also started to offer a complete family of e-commerce solutions, designed to support inter organization collaborative processes. SAP's offering, labelled mySAP.com, is rich and complex. Solutions offered by SAP in terms of integration with SAP R/3 are often ill described. Therefore it can be difficult for a manager to come to a decision regarding inter-organizational integration. This report presents SAP, a world leading company, its products, strategy, integration technologies (Idocs, BAPIs, RFC, ALE, Business Connectors), and methodologies, along with real world applications currently implemented.
The Utility of Using Social Media Networks for Data Collection in Survey Research
Social media networks (SMNs) such as Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter seem appealing tools for matters of reaching potential candidates for survey or case study research. Yet scholars remain cautious about leveraging these platforms. This research in progress paper compares and discusses the benefits of six generic strategies for reaching survey candidates on SMNs, and argues that while their use has potential pitfalls, the upside for explanatory type research may outweigh its risks. Furthermore, the paper outlines the empirical setting of a study that has been conducted to assess our propositions, and in which Linkedin was used to identify and solicit survey candidates
Panorama des SystÚmes d'Intégration Inter-Organisationnels
This document deals with business processes performed by two or more trade partners. Companies expect many benefits from the integration of such processes: cost reduction, better access to their customers and suppliers, and even more flexible types of interactions. However, the integration of inter-organizational processes is an expensive and risky process. If information technologies can support several integration types in an organisation, the implications (costs, risks) and potential benefits vary according to the level of integration targeted. Moreover, inter-organizational integration brings out the question of the identity of the firm, along with its frontier. Consequently, several questions arise. Among them: What are the effects of inter-organizational collaboration on the organizational structures? Which organizational structure will best support the development of this type of collaboration?
This study adopts an institutional approach to analyze the introduction of new information technologies (IT) in the management of mega-events. More specifically, it focuses on the last three UEFA European Football Championship (2000, 2004, 2008), a period during which the nature of technologies used has changed dramatically. A qualitative approach is adopted and the two main technologies identified (e-ticketing and online broadcasting of results) are compared to each other and over time. We suggest that actors purposefully adopted these technologies in order to influence the institution to which they belong (the UEFA). Actors perform institutional work with the objective to create, maintain or disrupt this institution. Our results unveil several strategies enacted to use IT in order to adopt new practices. The adoption of e-ticketing, inspired by established practices in other tournaments, was supported by technical work that aimed at defining this new way of doing things and at educating users. The online broadcasting of results is based on technical and cultural work: actors also made an effort of theorization and education; it was also an opportunity for reinforcing the mission and the central values of the UEFA. Overall, this study is, to our knowledge, a first effort in the literature to understand the role of IT in the management of mega-events, and it provides a new angle to the study of IT actors as change agents, that of an institutional actor.

A number of information systems (IS) project management practices can now be considered institutionalized. While traditional institutional approaches assume that actors – in search of legitimacy - passively adopt such practices, others posit that there is a broad range of responses to institutional pressures. These responses vary from acquiescence to manipulation, including compromise and defiance. Our study adopted this perspective to examine IS project managers’ responses to institutionalized practices. The study addressed the following questions: Are IS project managers institutional actors who unquestioningly adopt institutionalized practices or do they consciously comply? Or else, do they adopt avoidance or defiance strategies? We conducted a multi-method study to address these questions. First we conducted a field study during which we interviewed 46 IS project managers after which we conducted two case studies. We offer the following contributions. From an empirical point of view, the study reveals how IS project managers may apprehend project management practices that they are presented as being norms. The study also has a theoretical contribution, in that it combines and enriches extant frameworks pertaining to actors’ responses to institutional pressures; these strategies are contrasted with the notion of mindfulness. From a practical point of view, our results can help organizations better understand how IS project managers may apprehend institutionalized practices. The originality of our approach consists in the operationalization of Oliver’s (1991) famous framework in an IS context. Leveraging social networks in mergers ::a roadmap for post-merger integration
This chapter explains how HR executives can leverage social network understanding in order to facilitate post-merger integration. We describe two social network mechanisms (brokerage and contagion) and explain their effect on organizational functioning. We then present a framework incorporating interventions in three core areas of HR involvement in mergers and map those interventions on the timeline of the merger so as to provide a roadmap for developing and implementing interventions based on social network insight. We argue that an understanding of social networks and the proposed interventions would allow HR executives to better monitor and steer post-merger integration
