    Hypothyroidism, new nodule formation and increase in nodule size in patients who have undergone hemithyroidectomy

    Introduction: The current medical literature has conflicting results about factors related to hypothyroidism and nodular recurrences during follow-up of hemithyroidectomized patients. We aimed to evaluate factors that may have a role in new nodule formation, hypothyroidism, increase in thyroid lobe and increase in nodule volumes in these patients with and without Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT), and with and without levothyroxine (LT4) use. Material and methods: We enrolled 140 patients from five different hospitals in Ankara and evaluated their thyroid tests, autoantibody titre results and ultrasonographic findings longitudinally between two visits with a minimum 6-month interval. Results: In patients with HT there was no significant difference between the two visits but in patients without HT, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels and nodule volume were higher, and free T4 levels were lower in the second visit. Similarly, in patients with LT4 treatment there was no difference in TSH, free T4 levels, or lobe or nodule size between the two visits, but the patients without LT4 had free T4 levels lower in the second visit. Regression analysis revealed a relationship between first visit TSH levels and hypothyroidism during follow-up. Conclusions: Patients who have undergone hemithyroidectomy without LT4 treatment and without HT diagnosis should be followed up more carefully for thyroid tests, new nodule formation and increase in nodule size. The TSH levels at the beginning of the follow-up may be helpful to estimate hypothyroidism in hemithyroidectomized patients

    The Readability Level of Websites Regarding COVID-19 Ocular Findings: An Internet-Based Analysis

    INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this single-centered internet-based study was to determine the readability of COVID-19-related ocular findings on Turkish websites. METHODS: TThe first 33 websites that appeared when searching Google for phrases like "Does coronavirus affect the eye," "Coronavirus eye findings," COVID-19-related ocular manifestations," and "Can coronavirus infect the eye" were evaluated using two main readability scores for Turkish texts developed by Ateşman and Bezirci-Yilmaz. RESULTS: The average score on Ateşman's readability score was 47. Accordingly, websites providing information about COVİD-19-related ocular findings were discovered to be readable by the 13th, 14th, and 15th grade students. The same websites were found to be readable with an average of 14.7 points on the Bezirci-Yilmaz readability score, requiring 14-15 years of education. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The readability of COVID-19-related ocular findings websites was determined to be between 13th and 15th grade students. This level is relatively high when compared to the average education level. Treatment adherence issues may arise as a result of website information written in a language that patients and their relatives find difficult to understand

    Physical education teachers' general views related to application of elective sport activities lesson at primary schools

    Bu araştırmanın amacı Malatya ili ilköğretim okullarında beden eğitimi öğretmenlerinin seçmeli spor etkinlikleri dersi uygulamalarına ilişkin görüşlerini incelemektir. Araştırmaya rastgele yöntemle seçilmiş 19'u bayan ve 64'üi erkek olmak üzere 83 beden eğitimi öğretmeni katılmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen 12maddelik bir anket uygulanmıştır. Veriler yüzdeler (%) halinde anlamlı çapraz çizelgeler ile sunulmuştur. Öğretmenlerin görüşleri arasındaki farklılıklar ?= 0,50 anlamlılık düzeyinde Mann Whitney U Testi ve Kruskal Wallis Varyans Analizi ile sınanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, ilköğretim okullarının tamamına yakınında seçmeli ders olarak spor etkinlikleri dersinin tercih edildiği görülmüştür. Ancak bu dersi beden eğitimi öğretmenlerinin dışında okul yöneticileri ile sınıf öğretmenlerinin de okuttukları görülmüştür. Bunların yanında öğretmenleri dersin öğretim programı hakkında olumlu görüşlere sahip olduğu ve bu ders için haftalık 2 ders saatinin yeterli olduğunu belirtmişlerdir. Fakat bu ders için verilen semineri ve rehberlik hizmetlerini çok yetersiz bulmuşlardır. Yine öğretmenler spor etkinlikleri dersinin yürütülmesinde okulun tesis ve olanaklarını kısmen yeterli bulmuşlar, ünitelendirilmiş yıllık planlarında belirttikleri etkinliklerin yıl boyunca ancak yarısını uygulayabilmişlerdir. Bu etkinlikler ile diğer derslerdeki ilgili kazanımları çok az ilişkilendirerek uygulamışlardır. Bununla birlikte öğretmenlerin cinsiyetlerinin bu görüşlerini fazla etkilemediği, ancak öğretmenlerin hizmet yıllarının bu görüşlere büyük etkisinin olduğu sonucu bulunmuşturThe aim of this study is to investigate physical education teachers' views related to application of elective sport activities lesson at primary schools in Malatya province. This investigation composed of totally 83 physical education teachers, randomly selected 19 women and 64 men. A questionnaire developed by researchers was used to totally 12 items as instrument of the data gathering on this investigation. Dates were presented with percentages (%) and significant crosstables. Differences among teachers' views were compared with significant level of ?=0,05 by using of Mann Whitney U Test and Kruskal Wallis Variance Analyse. Findings indicated that sport activities lesson was preferred for elective lesson nearly all of the primary schools. But this lesson was not instructed only by physical education teachers, also was instructed by school administrators and class teachers. In addition, teachers had positive views about the lesson instruction program and they pointed out that this lesson was adequate for 2 hours in a week. However, they found that there were very insufficient seminars and guidance services giving for this lesson. Also teachers found that school facilities and possibilities were sufficient partially, but they could apply only half of activities throughout a year that pointed out in their scholar annual plan. They could not apply enough these activities related to the gaining of the other lessons. In addition, sex of teachers' views were not affected too much, but found out those duty years of teachers made big influence to these view

    Investigation of temporal variation of groundwater salinity potential using AHP-based index

    In this study, a Groundwater Salinity Index (GSI) was developed to monitor the salinity potential and water quality of freshwater aquifers adjacent to Lake Tuz, one of the world’s hypersaline lakes. The hierarchical structure of the index was designed by using the Analytical Hierarchy Process and eight different parameters that cause groundwater salinity. In addition to the index, a classification system based on GSI scores is proposed that evaluates salinity potential in three different categories as “high,” “medium,” and “low.” In order to evaluate the temporal variation of salinity potential, the GSI was applied to the results of the water chemistry analysis carried out in 2012 and 2019. Prediction maps showing the salinity potential were obtained using GSI scores and the Kriging interpolation process. According to the index scores and maps, it was determined that the salinity potential rose towards the inner parts of the region because of the increasing salinity rate of groundwater as approximately 15%. The fields with the highest salinity potential are concentrated in the western regions along the shore of Lake Tuz. The groundwater closer to the lake has the characteristics of NaCl facies. Due to the mixing of NaCl and CaHCO3 water facies at various rates, different water types have emerged in the region. Freshwater aquifers located close to Lake Tuz were mainly contaminated by Lake Tuz and the groundwater that has a high salt content as a result of water–rock interaction

    Analysis of empathic artifice level of teacher candidates who study in the school of physical education and sport

Study group is composed of 125 boys and 72 girls totaly 197 students who are attending to 1(st), 2(nd), 3(rd) and 4(th) class of Karamanoglu Mehmetbey University and Selcuk University School of Physical Education and Sport. First of all, available information's related to aim of study have been given systematically by scanning literature. In this way a teorical frame about the subject was formed. Secondly to reach the aim of the study; empathic artifice scale developed by Dokmen (1990) was applied to students who joined the research. In data examine and interpretation; t test, One Way Anova tests were used and to identify differences between groups Tukey test was used and perception was based on P<0,05. Statistical package for social sciences packet program (SPSS) was used to find calculated data's and evaluate criteria's. Reliability coefficient of the scale was found as 0.86. As a result of this study it was found that while there was a meaningful difference between teacher candidates who are attending to School of Physical Education and Sport, empathic artifice level and their sex, class and fathers' education level; there wasn't a meaningful difference between their emphatic artifice and mothers' education level.     Examined of creativity level of primary school students who make sports and do not make sports

Study group is composed of 73 boys and 77 girls who make sports and 78 boys and 72 girls who do not make sports, totaly 300 who are attending to 6(th), 7(th) and 8(th) grade in primary schools located in the center of Karaman province. First of all, available information's related to aim of study have been given systematically by scanning literature. In this way a teorical frame about the subject was formed. Secondly, "How Creative Are You?" creativity scale developed by Raudsepp (1977) and translated into Turkish by Coban (1999) was used in order to reach the aim of study. In data examine and interpretation; t test, One Way Anova tests were used and to identify differences between groups Tukey test was used and perception was based on P<0.05. Statistical package for social sciences packet program (SPSS) was used to find calculated data's and evaluate criteria's. As a result of this study, the creativity level of the students who make sports was any more than students who don't make sports. According to sex variant, boy and girl students making sports have high creativity level while boy and girl students not making sports have low creativity levels. According to class variant, It was emerged that the level of creativity was high in the students of 6(th), 7(th) and 8(th) grade and who make sports while it was low in the 6(th), 7(th) and 8(th) grade students who don't make sports. According to variant education levels of their mother and father, it was emerged from conclusion that creativeness levels of students making sport were higher than students' not making sports.     Comparison of multiple intelligence areas of students at sports high schools and public high schools

    Bu çalışmanın amacı spor lisesi öğrencileri ile genel lise öğrencilerinin çoklu zekâ alanlarını karşılaştırmaktır. Araştırma grubunu Malatya, Eskişehir, Trabzon ve Erzurum illerinde rastgele yöntemle seçilmiş 321’i spor lisesi öğrencisi ve 346’sı genel lise öğrencisi olmak üzere toplam 658 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Saban (2002) tarafından geliştirilen “Eğitimciler için Çoklu Zekâ alanları Envanteri” kullanılmıştır. Veri analizlerinde ikili karşılaştırmalar için independent-samples T Testi ve çoklu karşılaştırmalar için one-way Anova Testi ve LSD Testi kullanılmış ve anlamlılık düzeyi ?=0,05 olarak seçilmiştir. Ayrıca sosyo-demografik özellikleri belirlemek için frekans ve yüzde analizi uygulanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin cinsiyetlerine göre sözel, görsel, müziksel, sosyal ve içsel zekâ alanları arasında kızlar lehine anlamlı düzeyde farklılık (p<0,05) olduğu; öğrencilerin sınıflarına göre sözel, mantıksal, sosyal ve içsel zekâ alanları arasında anlamlı düzeyde farklılık (p<0,05) olduğu; genel lise öğrencilerin sözel, mantıksal, görsel ve içsel zekâlarının spor lisesi öğrencilerinkinden daha iyi olduğu; spor lisesi öğrencilerin sadece bedensel zekâlarının genel lise öğrencilerinkinden daha iyi olduğu (p<0,05) bulunmuştur. Ayrıca hem genel lise öğrencilerinin hem de spor lisesi öğrencilerinin müziksel, sosyal ve doğasal zekâlarının gelişmişlik düzeylerinin aynı olduğu tespit edilmiştir.The purpose of this research is to compare multiple intelligence areas of students at sports high schools and at public high schools. İş gücüne katılanbugençleri iş yerlerinde bekleyen en büyük tehlikelerin başında şüphesiz iş kazaları ve meslek hastalıkları gelmektedir. İş hayatına atılacak olan gençlerin iş kazasına maruz kalma olasılığı ise oldukça yüksektir. İş yerlerinde gençlere yönelik gelebilecek her türlü iş kazalarına karşı onları hazırlamak vedahaöncedenbilgilendirmek içinhemeğitim kurumlarınahemde işyerlerine büyük görev düşmektedir.     In this study, a program examining the CNC programs in the control unit of Dyna Myte 2900 Vertical Machining Center and calculating the machining time and rapid movement time of the cutting tools has been developed. The workpiece program to be examined is transferred to CNC code editor by the user manually, by a computer file with a diskette, or through hard disk or the machine tool. By examining all the movements of the cutting tools, detailed machining time, rapid movement time or total time is served to the user. So that, an important part of workpiece cost analysis information is provided
