    The Cargo Vessel MV Rak grounded on Mumbai coast causing oil spills along Juhu-Versova beach since 7th August 2011. About 100 metric tons of oil had been spilled into the sea. Coast Guard launched Operation Paryavaran Suraksha and spread about 2600 litres of Oil Spill Dispersant (OSD) in the area for cleaning purpose

    Mumbai Research Centre fabricated small G. I. cage frame locally with four barrels for buoyancy. Inner diameter of the cage frame was 3 m whereas outer diameter was 4 m and nets were designed in conical to provide more space at the bottom for lobster to rest. Cages were moored in the open sea by means of two grapnel anchors. 200 juvenile lobsters collected from Versova landing centers were stocked in the cage.A total of 158 lobsters were recovered from the cage after four months rearing (average wet wt. 155 gm). Lobsters were sold to buyers at the rate of ` 840 per Kg after harvesting

    Mumbai RC was selected to lead the World Bank pilot project, undertaken jointly by ICAR, INCOIS, Hyderabad, and a private service provider in Mumbai. The project has suggested a few technological interventions in selected villages. m-KRISHI┬о Fisheries Service integrates technologies such as Wireless Sensors, Camera phone and script technology; ensures economic benefits to the stakeholders by enabling them to find Potential Fishing Zone areas directly. Images, Text, Voice, Query, Feedback & other services are integrated with the facility and it is available in local Marathi and English languages

    Launching of low-cost cage at Mumbai

    Mumbai Research Centre has propagated small GI pipe cages for the marginal and small-scale fishermen in village Kalamb (Dist. Thane) in Maharashtra. The low-cost GI pipe circular cages have been stocked with juvenile lobster Panulirus polyphagus. The fishermen are taking care of feeding the lobsters daily and maintaining the cage while a staff of CMFRI is monitoring the growth and health of the lobsters

    Revival of bivalve Catelysia opima (Gmelin) fishery along Dadar beach, Mumbai

    A sudden abundance of bivalves in large numbers were observed during March-JuneтАЩ09 along Dadar beach in Mumbai in the intertidal zone. About 200-400 men, women, and children from the nearby areas began excavating and hand-picking the bivalves daily from the sand. There is a high demand for these bivalves and they fetched a good price in the local market
