    Role of Librarians’ Information Literacy Skills to Enhance Research Culture: A Case Study of University of Agriculture Faisalabad

    This study has investigated the role of librarians’ Information Literacy (IL) skills to enhance the research productivity of Faculty Members of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. The population of the study was the faculty members of the University of Agriculture and five library professionals of the university’s Central Library. A quantitative approach followed by a survey research design was adopted to meet the objectives of the study. Data were gathered through the instrument of the questionnaire. Quantitatively driven data was analyzed by SPSS Software. Results showed that Library professionals played a vital role in the promotion of research culture on the whole. IL instruction programs were of great value for the output of research productivity. Library professionals faced several barriers including lack of information literacy training, Unreliable power supply, the ineffective role of library organizations, lack of funding from institutions, lack of proficiency to use the internet, personal health issues, and official issues like leaves, permissions, work burden, etc. The most preferred suggestions to improve IL skills of LIS professionals and faculty members are; provision of funds or scholarships, revision of LIS curriculum, the active role of Pakistan Library Association (PLA), National IL skills training program for LIS professionals and faculty members, and instructional programs for the improvement of IL skills of faculty members and librarians

    Impact of Automation on Users’ Perception of Library Services

    The critical destinations of this study were to inspect the impact of Automation on users\u27 perception of library services at Government College University Faisalabad. The present study has three research objectives including (a)To assess the user\u27s perception regarding library automation at GCU Faisalabad, (b)To check the level of satisfaction of the users regarding library services at GCU Faisalabad, and (e)To measure the problem faced by the users after automation of library services at GCU Faisalabad. To meet the objectives, the investigator used a quantitative research approach and developed a questionnaire for the data collection instrument. The convenience sampling technique was used for collecting data from the target population. There were 16570 students enrolled in BS, Master, M.Phil, and Ph.D. degree programs. The sample size was 391(2.35 % of the total population) students. There were 375 out of 391 students who filled the questionnaire. Hence, the response rate was 95.9 %. The results revealed that more than 75% percent of the participants like to support and use automated library services and hybrid services. Further respondents gave their points of view that they had a trend to use automated services to save time. Moreover, the result of this study revealed that the participants were well aware of the library automated services, offered by GCU libraries. This research points out that most of the total participants were satisfied by the automated services, offered by the GCU library

    WORK PLACE BULLYING ON DEVIANT WORK BEHAVIOR AMONG NURSES IN PAKISTAN: MEDIATING ROLE OF INTERPERSONAL CONFLICT

    This study investigates the relationship between workplacebullying, interpersonal conflict and deviant work behavior amongnurses in the public sector in Pakistan. For this purpose the datawere collected from 277 nurses working in government hospitals byusing convenience sampling method. Findings showed that workplace bullying results in deviant work behavior among nurses andthis relationship is mediated by interpersonal conflict like negativeemotional reaction, perceived disagreements and interference fromand towards colleagues. The implications of the findings for hospitaladministrators and directions for future research are provided

    Impact of Information Literacy Skills of Librarians on Research Productivity of Faculty Members of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad

    This study has investigated the impact of Information Literacy Skills of Librarians to enhance the research productivity of Faculty Members of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. The main goal of the study was to measure the levels of Information Literacy of faculty members and professional librarians of the university, to investigate the programs offered by library staff of the university, and to explore the role of Librarians’ Information Literacy skills for research productivity of faculty members in the university. To achieve the objectives of the study, the Sequential Explanatory design of Mix method approach was employed and questionnaire was distributed to every participant of the population of faculty members, and interviews were taken from the professional librarians by researchers to get an in-depth understanding related to the study. There are 07 major faculties in the university and 39 departments working under the umbrella of these 07 faculties and 579 teaching faculty members are working in these departments with various designations of Lecturers, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors in the university, and there are 05 professional LIS degree holders staff in the main library of the university working there. The required sample size was 231 and all questionnaires were received from the faculty members. The response rate is 100%. Data were analyzed through SPSS 20 version. Findings of the study revealed that LIS professionals and faculty members have moderate levels of Information Literacy skills and they can improve their competencies in Information Literacy by adopting some training courses and seminars. The library staff conducts orientation sessions at the start of every year and the library has sufficient resources for faculty members and library staff is cooperative with the faculty members but the library staff does not conduct any trainings and workshops to improve the IL skills of faculty members

    Purposes to Seek Information Resources by Academicians of the Oldest & Leading University of the Sub-Continent: An Explanatory Study

    Major goal of this research was to know the purposes of seeking information resources by the academicians at GC University Lahore. As an allied goal, effort was made to know the role of the university library in meeting information and research needs of the academic faculty. Mixed methods research design was adopted for meeting goals of the research. Explanatory Sequential Design (QUAN + qual) was utilized. Firstly, quantitative data was collected through the instrument of questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS Software. Qualitative data was collected from 30 seasoned academicians working in different departments of the university. Thematic approach was followed to make analysis of the qualitatively driven data. Results of the study show that academicians search information resources for the purposes of preparing lectures, for guiding research scholars and students, for presenting research papers, to keep up with current developments, for writing research articles and enhancing their general knowledge. Findings of the study show that respondents are satisfied with the resources and services of university library. Participants recommend the need of formal training for developing skills to search specific information resources through online sources. Findings of this study are limited to the teaching faculty at GC University Lahore Pakistan, a leading institute of the sub-continent. The study has practical implication for the authorities of the universities and policy-makers of Higher Education Commission, Islamabad to design services in accordance with the needs of faculty members of the university. The study has revealed purposes of seeking information resources by academic faculty of the university, role of the library and practical solutions to meet information and research needs of the teaching faculty members

    Resource Sharing among Medical Teaching Libraries: A Developing Country Perspective

    Resource sharing is a functional as well as financial need of any library. In this modern era of information technology while information explosion is at extreme, it is impossible for a library to cover the entire surface of available knowledge. Developed countries are actual beneficiaries of this practice where idea of resource sharing has been transformed into a formal practice. Developing South Asian countries are also working on this concept in order to adopt it as a practice. This study identified the resource sharing opportunities for medical teaching libraries in Lahore with reference to perception and willingness. The sample of this study encompassed 26 leading medical libraries of all public and private degree awarding institutions in Lahore, Pakistan. The survey research method was adopted for this study. Findings showed that resource sharing is a valuable practice. It enhances the level of user satisfaction. It adds value to library collections which is not limited to library books only. Libraries are willing to initiate resource sharing through creating union catalogues. This study could be applied to all medical libraries in Pakistan to develop a real time formal resource sharing network which would accelerate performance reaming in limited financial resources

    Regulatory Quality and Employment Generation Empirical Evidence from selected Developing Economies of Asia

    Theory of economic regulation gained importance in economics literature in the era of 1990s. Market failure caused by market imperfections has legitimized government intervention and regulation in the economic affairs of state. But positive response to regulation in developed countries and failure of regulatory institutions in developing countries have created doubts about the role of regulation in developing countries. This study is an effort to explore relation between regulatory quality and employment generation in 6 developing economies of Asia namely China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines and Thailand, using data from 1996 to 2011. Panel Model has been assessed by using fixed effects technique and Generalized Method of Moments (GMM). We have found a strong positive effect of regulatory quality on level of employment in selected economies. We suggest enhancing quality of regulatory institutions to tackle the issue of wide range unemployment in developing economies like of Asia.Key Words: Regulatory Quality, Employment, Governance, Fixed Effects, Developing Economies, Institution

    IMPACT OF WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT ON PERFORMANCE IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES OF LAHORE, PAKISTAN

    Goals of this study were to know the effect of library’s work environment for job performance of librarians and existence of any relationship between work environment and job performance of librarians. A quantitative study design was carried out to explore phenomenon through the librarian’s perceptions, delights and choices about their administrative center surroundings. Survey method was used in this study. The target population of this study was Librarians of HEC recognized Public and Private Universities of Lahore City. The structured questionnaire was used for data collection from respondents. There had been a hundred and twenty questionnaires dispensed among librarians, the researcher became succeeded in receiving ninety-six questionnaires from members. The reaction rate was 80 percent. Descriptive statistics were utilized for description of information such as frequencies, mean scores and standard deviation. Regression analysis has been performed to measure the impact of workplace environment on the job performance. Findings of the study show that there is the shortage of calm environment to the employees. Job descriptions are not clearly designed. No proper training opportunities are provided to the workers. Employees are not properly motivated. Findings of the study may prove useful in providing a congenial environment to the employees so that performance may be improved
