    Get PDF
The poultry industry has been successfully becoming a leading industry of Bangladesh. The primary objective of the study is to identify the various aspect relating the growth and sustainability of poultry industry in Bangladesh. Authors argued that strategic management in poultry sector requires complementing to achieve present Govt.’s vision of Digital Bangladesh 2021. Considering the importance of the country’s poultry industry in order to ensure the sustainable economic development it is now high time to step forward for the better accumulation of resources available from this industry. This industry proves various opportunities of increasing GDP growth rate plus equitable distribution through arranging food security as well as ensuring self-employment at a large scale as pointed out by the authors.

Model as a Service : Towards a Discovery Platform for Internet of Food

    Get PDF
The Internet of Food (INoF) consortium, which is part of Sustainable Food Initiative (SFI), aims to address the future food safety challenges using engineering solutions to make the production process more efficient and sustainable. Inter-organization collaboration can stimulate fast innovation and sustainable research processes by significantly reducing data loss as well as miscommunication. Such collaboration requires an appropriate digital infrastructure that can maintain interoperability among diverse data formats from different sources. This infrastructure should also be able to facilitate sharing of data and services without companies having to share IP (Intellectual Property) or replicate corresponding execution environments. As part of the INoF, this project aims to develop a prototype for such infrastructure and set up a baseline for building an effective model discovery platform. In this context, models are computational units that can provide insights into food products. Having access to results from more models, companies can make better decisions and speed up product development. During this project, a microservice based architecture was de-signed and a prototype was developed that exploited the idea of Model as a Service (MaaS). It has the functionality to offer models in the form of web services allowing organizations other than the owner of the models to use them. For achieving interoperability among different data sources in the context of this project, functionalities, such as dynamic model parameter mapping and on-demand unit conversion, were implemented into this prototype. After execution, results from several models belonging to different organizations can also be viewed through this platform. One of the major goals of this project was to demonstrate the benefits and possibilities of sharing model results to attract further collab-oration. Therefore, several INoF partners were closely involved in this project. The MaaS prototype was also demonstrated to all the INoF partners and earned quite a few appreciations

Mapping Urban Encroachment in the Rivers around Dhaka City: An Example from the Turag River

Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, is one of the fastest growing and the most densely populated cities in the world. The city has 4 rivers all around which were once lifelines to it for economy and ecology. Being expanded rapidly in an unplanned way with the phenomenal increase of population, land scarcity and land price, the city’s peripheral zone reached the banks of the rivers. Consequently, an ill-motivated section of people began to use the riverbanks in a variety of ways leading to river encroachment. Gradual encroachment is narrowing down the rivers putting their existence to threat. This study was conducted to find out the major encroachment points, estimate the area and document the land use of each encroachment point in the Turag River, particularly from the Buriganga Third Bridge (Shaheed Budhijibi Bridge) at Bashila to Tongi Bridge. The study was carried out through field survey with Dhaka City (rivers) map and GPS. The field survey was supported by discussion with focus group of 60 people aged over 70 experiencing changes in the Turag River for over last 50 years. Encroachment map showing the location of encroachment points has been prepared through application of GIS and satellite image. During field survey, the area and land use of each encroachment site was estimated and noted down respectively on sketch map. However, the study found out 51 points where about 1.5 acre of the riverbanks have been grabbed and are being used mainly for trade and commerce as well as housing purposes. Teaching Business Statistics by Examples: An Illustration, Benefits, and Challenges

    Get PDF
This study proposes the teaching-by-examples (TBE) approach where the learning objectives are achieved by creating lesson plans encompassing hands-on examples that take precedence in operationalizing the concepts and theories. It illustrates the TBE approach within the context of business statistics and proposes that there is a significant difference in the mean performance of students taught by the TBE approach and of those taught by the traditional lecture method. The findings suggest that the TBE approach results in better student performance than the traditional lecture method. This study also discusses the challenges that accompany the benefits of the TBE approach

Dual Orthogonal Feed Circular Polarization Array Antenna Using Microstrip Slot Feed Network

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new circularly polarized microstrip array antenna using dual-orthogonal feed technique. The feed network for 1x2 array is designed using microstrip lines and slot lines by applying double-sided MIC concept effectively. 90 degree phase difference between two orthogonally feed signals os created by choosing appropriate feed point in the feed network to advance one of the feed signals by quarter wavelength (lemda/4) from other. Excellent radiation performance is obtained from this proposed antenna with low cross polar component. The impedence (<-10dB) bandwidth of the array is 9.1% and the 3-dB axial ration bandwidth is 1.85% (9.905GHz to 10.09 GHz). The average  gain is higher than 9dBiC over the 3-dB AR bandwidth. The relation between antenna dimensions and characteristics ia also investigated with a parametric analysis of the antenna

Reflections on public administration education with a case of Bangladesh

    Get PDF
The paper aims to review public administration education in the higher education institutions in Bangladesh, and their role in ensuring modern public services. Most universities in the country offer public administration degrees; however, minimal contributions to nationbuilding have been observed. The study asks: what are the pitfalls behind this? How to address the limitations? This is a qualitative study with gleaned data, using inductive content analysis to investigate the phenomenon with three case universities indicating the link between curriculum and learning delivery at the universities in Bangladesh. The research finds that poor development-oriented public administration education has little correlation to national development. The education system is traditional, where typical cultural features are nonchalance and indifference towards domestic demands. The discipline cannot create a distinctive identity and position in academia, which has consequences for the advancement of the administrative system in a developing country like Bangladesh. A research-informed curriculum with innovative pedagogical approach might be an alternative. The paper enlightens both academics and practitioners, as literature on public administration education in Bangladesh has been scarce. It calls for higher education institutions to reassess public administration education, teaching methods and research for national development.publishedVersio
