    The Relationship Between Academic Success and Emotional Intelligence, Psychological Empowerment, Resilience, Spiritual Well-Being in Nursing Students

    Background: The academic achievement of nursing students plays an important part in the professional development. It is essential and compulsory element in their professional development stages. There are multiple factors that affect students’ academic achievement like emotional intelligence, spiritual well being, psychological empowerment, and resilience. These factors can effect positively or negatively to academic success in terms of CGPA. Method: a descriptive co relational study design used in this study. The study conducted in The University of Lahore on 117 students of Nursing. The sample size calculated through Solvens formula. For questionnaire is used in this study Emotional intelligence scale, Psychological empowerment scale, resilience scale and spiritual well being test. Results: results are showing positive correlation in dependent and independent variables. There is significant correlation in spiritual well being and CGPA(r=.75, p=.003). There is positive correlation between psychological empowerment and CGPA (P=.773, r=.000). There is correlation between resilience and CGPA (r=.731, p=.000). There is positive correlation between Emotional intelligence and CGPA (P=.766, r=.000) at the level of 0.05. Conclusion: all the universities and institutes must be makes and implementing some strategies for the reduction of bias selection of students. For the improving of nursing students, academic performance there is a need to implement some intervention for the reduction and coping with stress (resilience), and provide such environment that is free from stress.     Genotype-Phenotype Heterogeneity in Haemophilia

    Haemophilia was previously regarded as a classical example of Mendelian inheritance, with mutation in only a single gene (F8 or F9) causing the disease phenotype. The disease manifests complete penetrance. Studies, however, revealed the striking genetic and phenotypic heterogeneities of the disease. With further sophistication of clinical and molecular techniques, the disease was also found to have allele heterogeneity, phenotypic plasticity and variation in expressivity. The variations are more pronounced in F9 variants with five distinct phenotypes. All these phenomena advocate a rather complex genotype-phenotype relationship for the disease. A keen insight into the matter may unveil new avenues of therapeutics

    Synthesis and doping feasibility of composite-hydroxide-mediated approach for the Cu1-xZnxO nanomaterials

    In this article, we report feasibility of composite hydroxide-mediated (CHM) approach for the synthesis and doping of Cu1-xZnxO (x=0%, 3%, 6% and 9%) nanomaterial. The proposed method offers a low cost, low temperature and environmentally friendly approach to preparing doped nanomaterials in a feasible and cost- effective route. Further, we investigate the effect of incorporated Zn +2 on the properties of produced Cu (II) O nanostructures. The X-ray diffraction analysis confirms formation of the single-phase monoclinic Cu (II) O and incorporation of Zn at the Cu-lattice sites. The crystalline structure is improved and the average grain size has increased from 85.32 nm to 124.86 nm. FTIR spectroscopy shows characteristic vibrational peaks of the Cu (II)-O bonding which confirms formation of the Cu (II) O. SEM micrographs reveal interesting flower like dense features with morphological peculiarities and seems to strongly depend on the content of the incorporated Zn +2 . The UV- visible spectra are measured to study the direct bandgap of the prepared nanomaterial. The direct bandgap found to be in the range of 3.73 - 3.89 eV. The method seems experimentally friendly and provides a feasible and a high productive fast synthesis route for the doped oxide nanomaterials in a single step with tunable properties for the research purposes. However, the method still requires further investigation to finely control doping for the desired properties of a nanomaterial and to give a potential avenue for further practical scale-up of the production process and applications of novel devices based on doped nanostructures

    Non-Compliance with COVID-19 Screening in Pakistan: A Cross-Sectional Survey

    Objectives: To quantify the non-complaint portion of the general public – not wanting to be screened for COVID-19 and find the reason for this non-compliance, in the general public of Rawalpindi Pakistan. Study Design: Cross-sectional survey. Place and Duration of Study: General public of Rawalpindi, Pakistan. From June 19, 2020, to June 21, 2020. Methodology: A questionnaire was constructed based on a local study, it was injected to the accessible online population through Google Forms. Surveyors collected data from the illiterate population on printed proforma. A sample of 1108 was collected. IBM® SPSS® was used for data analysis. For categorical data, frequencies and percentages were calculated. A Chi-square test was applied for statistical significance. Results: 45.3% of participants were females, 54.7% were males. 37.9% of participants were married and 62.1% were unmarried. 3.8% were illiterate, 40.4% were matriculated and 47.1% had education higher than intermediate. 38.3% was non-compliant population – didn’t want to get screened for COVID-19. 30.7% were non-compliant because of ‘fear of isolation/ quarantine with other COVID-19 patients, leading to worsening of disease’ followed by 26.9% who ‘don’t trust the reliability of the test’. Gender and Education level variables were statistically significant in determining non-compliance. Marital status was found non-significant. Conclusion: A significant portion of the population i.e. 38.3% showed non-compliance with COVID-19 screening, which was statistically associated with gender and education level

    Effectiveness of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy for Weight Loss in Morbid Obese Patients

    Objective: To determine the effectiveness of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy for weight loss in morbidly obese patients at Capital Hospital, Islamabad. Methodology: This descriptive case series study was done at Capital Hospital, CDA, Islamabad during a period of one-year from February 2019 to January 2020. All the patients with a body mass index of 35 or greater, with or without comorbidities, aged 18 to 65 years of either gender were included. All the patients underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy for weight loss. At the 1st, third, and 6th month’s follow-up, postoperative weight loss was noted. Effectiveness was taken in terms of > 10% weight loss maintained at 6 months.  Results: The overall study participants' average age was 57±9.77 years, and females were in the majority (62%). Overall, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy was effective in 85% of patients and was not effective in 15% of patients. The average BMI was 37.31 kg/m2. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy showed effectiveness in 57 (85%) patients, while 10 (15%) of the patients' weight was not lost. Effectiveness was statistically insignificant according to age, gender, and comorbidities, p-values were quite insignificant (>0.05). Conclusion: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy was observed to be an effective technique for weight loss in morbid obese patients. It did decrease the morbidities and improve the quality of life

In order to reduce water contaminants, like toxic metals and organic dyes, researchers are exploring different techniques, such as adsorption, photocatalytic degradation, and electrolysis. Novel materials are also being sought. In particular, biopolymers like guar gum and xanthan gum, that are eco-friendly, non-toxic, reusable, abundant and cost-effective, have enormous potential. Gum-based nanocomposites can be prepared and used for removing heavy metals and colored dyes by adsorption and degradation, respectively. This review explains the significance of gum-based nanomaterials in waste water treatment, including preparative steps, characterization techniques, kinetics models, and the degradation and adsorption mechanisms involved.publishersversionpublishe
