Atom gravimeters and gravitational redshift
In a recent paper, H. Mueller, A. Peters and S. Chu [A precision measurement
of the gravitational redshift by the interference of matter waves, Nature 463,
926-929 (2010)] argued that atom interferometry experiments published a decade
ago did in fact measure the gravitational redshift on the quantum clock
operating at the very high Compton frequency associated with the rest mass of
the Caesium atom. In the present Communication we show that this interpretation
is incorrect.Comment: 2 pages, Brief Communication appeared in Nature (2 September 2010
Quartet: Dissecting a Story
From the beginning of my investigation of Quartet, the text has intimidated me; after all, the script is infused with a multitude of literary, historical, and philosophical references and quotes all of which Heiner Mueller, himself, prefers to dissociate himself from. The theatre has nothing to do with ideas, Mueller once stated. Paradoxically his theatre is one that is full of ideas and whether Mueller chose, in his own lifetime, to recognize the ideas of his theatre or not, it is precisely his provocative ideas and images that has been the basis for this paper. In his dramatic text, Quartet, Heiner Mueller negotiates an array of theatrical theories and aesthetics, philosophies, segments of history, literary personas, in addition to a powerful selection of images, thus generating a stimulating multi-faceted dramatic collage
2016 Update of the Multilepton Analysis at TeV
The latest results from the search for a Standard Model Higgs boson produced
in association with a top quark pair () at
TeV decaying to final states with multiple leptons is presented using the 2016
dataset from the CMS experiment. The Higgs decays into either WW*, ZZ*, or
, and the top quark pair decays considered are either fully leptonic,
or semi-leptonic. The leptons defining the final states are muons and/or
electrons. The overall analysis strategy, as well as new techniques with
respect to the 2015 results are outlined.Comment: 9th International Workshop on Top Quark Physics Olomouc, Czech

Two-dimensional depth-resolved Mueller matrix of biological tissue measured with double-beam polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography
A double-beam polarization-sensitive system based on optical coherence tomography was built to measure the Mueller matrix of scattering biological tissue with high spatial resolution. The Jones matrix of a sample can be determined with a single scan and subsequently converted into an equivalent nondepolarizing Mueller matrix. As a result, the system can be used to measure the Mueller matrix of an unstable sample, such as soft tissue. The polarization parameters of a porcine tendon, including magnitude and orientation of birefringence and diattenuation, were extracted by decomposition of the measured Mueller matrix
Barth, Barthians, and Evangelicals: Reassessing the Question of the Relation of Holy Scripture and the Word of God
Karl Barth is often misunderstood regarding his views of Scripture, hence we must survey his ontology of Holy Scripture and then discuss various misinterpretations of Barth\u27s understanding of the nature of Scripture. Such men as David Mueller, Otto Weber, Arnold Come and T. F. Torrance and Evangelicals as C. Van Til, G. H. Clark, C. F. H. Henry and Bernard Ramm are shown to be deficient in their analysis of Barth\u27s view of Scripture, especially as regards a bifurcation of the text and the Word of God
