Planting design plays a vital role in evaluating and enhancing landscapes by deliberately arranging and selecting plants within a given area. It encompasses various elements, including plant types, arrangement, density, colour, texture, and composition, all contributing to the visual appeal and aesthetics of green spaces, creating harmonious and visually pleasing environments. Beyond environmental sustainability, planting design also holds significance in promoting aesthetical value for certain spaces. This study focuses on exploring how different planting design approaches impact the students’ expression when perceiving quality of campus green spaces. The objectives are to identify preferences for planting design scenes and investigate the influencing criteria. A Likert-scale questionnaire utilizing 51 planting images from Universiti Putra Malaysia is employed to collect data. The gathered preferences are analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics 23 to determine significant criteria and expression on preferences. The findings emphasize students' preferences for coherent and balance plant arrangements, naturalness with moderate density and maintenance. The implications of this study will aid campus designers in developing future landscape designs that incorporate preferred planting design characteristics

A Taste of Spatial Character: Quality outdoor space in campus landscape leisure setting

    Get PDF
The landscape is important in spatial development for campus space. Fundamentally, planting composition generates a character of the outdoor space. It could offer an enormous influence on visual quality, student performance and quality of life. This paper investigated the preferences and usage of outdoor campus space provided by universities during students’ leisure time. The data were collected through structured interviews at Research Universities in Malaysia. The results showed a relationship between preferences for landscape setting and utilisation index. Hence, this study suggested, the planting design is substantial to generate the space character which stimulates the use of outdoor campus space.

Between Survival and Sustenance : Plants for Recycle Edible Garden

Previous studies demonstrate that plants played a significant role in the edible garden plantings.  Therefore, this study aims to analyse and evaluate the practicality and performance of plants selected in composing the recycle edible garden at Masjid As-Siddiq. This paper discusses the issues, challenges and imperatives of how a successful plants selection would lead towards survival and sustenance food for the community. The data derived from qualitative and quantitative method through photo and images recorded throughout the implementation period.  The results will interpret relevant information about the plants potential in surviving and becoming sustenance towards the sustainable community.

Plants are identify as a valuable element in visual landscape assessment. This study examines the visual landscape quality (VLQ) relationship towards students’ well-being. This study identifies the preferences of planting composition scenes through the photo-based survey method. The survey employs 51 scenes with 5-points Likert-scale rating. The PLS-SEM was used to interpret the findings. The findings show the preferred scenes are complexity and coherent arrangement, moderate density, and natural plants, compared to openness and mysterious characteristics. These characteristics support students’ engagement and positive emotions. This finding will assist the campus designers in improving the VLQ towards students’ well-being.   Keywords: Visual landscape quality; planting composition; students’ well-being; landscape preference eISSN: 2398-4287 © 2022. Climate change and global warming have worsenedsince over the past year due to the greenhouse gas emission. Evidences show one of the main factors that contributes to global warmingis the impact of carbon footprint. Human activities are the causes of a great deal of carbon footprint. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the carbon footprint emission at UniversitiTeknologi MARA (UiTM) Seri Iskandar, Perak. The study focuses on two categories specifically on electrical power and transportation usage that contribute to carbon footprint emission. A survey on transportation was conducted by distributing questionnaire to the staffand students within the university. Meanwhile for electrical power consumption, the study used monthly electricity bills to measure the amount of energy consumed.Data was collected and calculated with the formula developed by Green House Gas protocol, resulted in the total carbon footprint produced by UiTM Seri Iskandar Perak for the year 2014. The result of the study is hoped to provide guidelines and strategies for the university to reduce the carbon footprint emission at UiTM Seri Iskandar, Perak

The landscape is an important part of campus as source of beautification and healthy environment The landscape preferences in campus usually explore by asking the participants to rate their most favourable landscape scene. This study aims to evaluate the favorable planting composition in students} study area. The objectives of the study are to identify the patternof planting composition in the campus and to relate the impact of composition towards utilising the outdoor study area by students. Throughout the literature review, this research generates briefly discussion on the relationship between planting composition and students learning behavior in the study area
