Scheme to measure squeezing and phase properties of a harmonic oscillator

We propose a simple scheme to measure squeezing and phase properties of a harmonic oscillator. We treat in particular the case of a the field, but the scheme may be easily realized in ion traps. It is based on integral transforms of measured atomic properties as atoms exit a cavity. We show that by measuring atomic polarizations it is possible, after a given integration, to measure several properties of the field.Comment: Presented at XI Central European Workshop on Quantum Optics, Trieste, Italy, 18-20 July, 200

Effect of the nearby levels on the resonance fluorescence spectrum of the atom-field interaction

We study the resonance fluorescence in the Jaynes-Cummings model when nearby levels are taking into account. We show that the Stark shift produced by such levels generates a displacement of the peaks of the resonance fluorescence due to an induced effective detuning and also induces an asymmetry. Specific results are presented assuming a coherent and a thermal fields

The Spectral Function for Finite Nuclei in the Local Density Approximation

    Get PDF
The spectral function for finite nuclei is computed within the framework of the Local Density Approximation, starting from nuclear matter spectral functions obtained with a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction. The spectral function is decomposed into a single-particle part and a ''correlated'' part; the latter is treated in the local density approximation. As an application momentum distributions, quasi-particle strengths and overlap functions for valence hole states, and the light-cone momentum distribution in finite nuclei are computed.Comment: 21 pages + 9 figures available upon request, RevTex, preprint KVI-108

Fracture toughness testing data: A technology survey and bibliography

    Get PDF
Announced survey includes reports covering fracture toughness testing for various structural materials including information on plane strain and developing areas of mixed mode and plane strain test conditions. Bibliography references cite work and conclusions in fracture toughness testing and application of fracture toughness test data, and in fracture mechanics analysis

Life prediction of materials exposed to monotonic and cyclic loading: A technology survey and bibliography

    Get PDF
Announced survey directs attention toward low cycle fatigue and thermal fatigue experienced at elevated temperatures equivalent to those found in hot end of gas turbine engine. Majority of bibliographic references are on life prediction for materials exposed to monotonic and cyclic loading in high temperature environments

Fracture toughness testing data. A bibliography

    Get PDF
This bibliography is comprised of approximately 800 reference citations related to the mechanics of failure in aerospace structures. Most of the references are for documents that include fracture toughness testing data and its application or documents on the availability and usefulness of fracture mechanics analysis methodology. The bibliography represents a search of the literature published in the period April 1962 through April 1974 and is largely limited to documents published in the United States

    CHBE 9235 Communication and Advocacy

    Get PDF
This course is designed to familiarize students with the history and current applications of health communication theory and strategies to public health practice and research. This course examines how to structure, develop and evaluate social marketing, media advocacy, risk communication and advocacy skills for change. In addition, systematic qualitative data collection processes such as interviewing skills, participant observation and focus groups will be developed. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking skills to help students analyze and utilize these skills in research and practice
