Scheme to measure squeezing and phase properties of a harmonic oscillator
We propose a simple scheme to measure squeezing and phase properties of a
harmonic oscillator. We treat in particular the case of a the field, but the
scheme may be easily realized in ion traps. It is based on integral transforms
of measured atomic properties as atoms exit a cavity. We show that by measuring
atomic polarizations it is possible, after a given integration, to measure
several properties of the field.Comment: Presented at XI Central European Workshop on Quantum Optics, Trieste,

Effect of the nearby levels on the resonance fluorescence spectrum of the atom-field interaction
We study the resonance fluorescence in the Jaynes-Cummings model when nearby
levels are taking into account. We show that the Stark shift produced by such
levels generates a displacement of the peaks of the resonance fluorescence due
to an induced effective detuning and also induces an asymmetry. Specific
results are presented assuming a coherent and a thermal fields
The Spectral Function for Finite Nuclei in the Local Density Approximation
The spectral function for finite nuclei is computed within the framework of
the Local Density Approximation, starting from nuclear matter spectral
functions obtained with a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction. The spectral
function is decomposed into a single-particle part and a ''correlated'' part;
the latter is treated in the local density approximation.
As an application momentum distributions, quasi-particle strengths and
overlap functions for valence hole states, and the light-cone momentum
distribution in finite nuclei are computed.Comment: 21 pages + 9 figures available upon request, RevTex, preprint

Fracture toughness testing data: A technology survey and bibliography
Announced survey includes reports covering fracture toughness testing for various structural materials including information on plane strain and developing areas of mixed mode and plane strain test conditions. Bibliography references cite work and conclusions in fracture toughness testing and application of fracture toughness test data, and in fracture mechanics analysis
Life prediction of materials exposed to monotonic and cyclic loading: A technology survey and bibliography
Announced survey directs attention toward low cycle fatigue and thermal fatigue experienced at elevated temperatures equivalent to those found in hot end of gas turbine engine. Majority of bibliographic references are on life prediction for materials exposed to monotonic and cyclic loading in high temperature environments
PUBH 3130 - Substance Use and Abuse (NET)
This course will explore legal and illegal drug use in modern society. Issues related to the social, cultural, political, economic impact of drug use will be addressed. The recurrent theme throughout the course will be on prevention. This will include discussions on the best ways to postpone the initiation of substance use and abuse among school aged persons as well as the cessation of use and treatment for abuse among adult populations. Substance use and its abuse effects ALL of us and does NOT discriminate on the basis of age, gender, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity or income
PUBH 3330 - Modifying Health Behaviors
This course is intended to introduce students to the learning and behavioral science theories that provide a framework for the practice of health education and promotion. Application of the theories to planning and implementing health promotion and education programs for individuals, groups, families, and communities will be emphasized. This course also introduces the students to various approaches to describing, explaining, and predicting health behaviors that have or are perceived to have significant effect on human health. Prerequisite: PUBH 213
