Physical Properties of Quantum Field Theory Measures

    Get PDF
Well known methods of measure theory on infinite dimensional spaces are used to study physical properties of measures relevant to quantum field theory. The difference of typical configurations of free massive scalar field theories with different masses is studied. We apply the same methods to study the Ashtekar-Lewandowski (AL) measure on spaces of connections. We prove that the diffeomorphism group acts ergodically, with respect to the AL measure, on the Ashtekar-Isham space of quantum connections modulo gauge transformations. We also prove that a typical, with respect to the AL measure, quantum connection restricted to a (piecewise analytic) curve leads to a parallel transport discontinuous at every point of the curve.Comment: 24 pages, LaTeX, added proof for section 4.2, added reference

Urban planning and territorial management in Portugal: Antecedents and impacts of the 2008 financial and economic crisis

    Get PDF
This chapter aims to discuss the role that recent developments in urban planning and territorial management in Portugal have played with regard to the outbreak of the financial and economic crisis. On another hand, it also intends to address the impacts that the crisis had on urban planning and territorial management in Portugal. To inform this discussion, an overview of the recent history of urban planning and territorial management in Portugal is presented, addressing the Municipal Master Plans. It analyses three specific periods: 1988-1998, when the first Municipal Master Plans were elaborated, 1998, the year of the publication of the first Ground Basis Law on Territorial Planning and Urbanism and 1998-2008, when the second generation of Municipal Master Plans was developed, already under the provisions of the new Ground Basis Law, and within the framework of the Strategic Environmental Assessment, calling for the consideration of new global ecological concerns. Such antecedents are important to understand the bilateral relations between urban planning and territorial management activities and the recent financial and economic crisis.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

A new feature selection method based on stability theory - Exploring parameters space to evaluate classification accuracy in neuroimaging data

    Get PDF
Recently we proposed a feature selection method based on stability theory. In the present work we present an evaluation of its performance in different contexts through a grid search performed in a subset of its parameters space. The main contributions of this work are: we show that the method can improve the classification accuracy in relation to the wholebrain in different functional datasets; we evaluate the parameters influence in the results, getting some insight in reasonable ranges of values; and we show that combinations of parameters that yield the best accuracies are stable (i.e., they have low rates of false positive selections)

    Asymptotic Flatness in Rainbow Gravity

A construction of conformal infinity in null and spatial directions is constructed for the Rainbow-flat space-time corresponding to doubly special relativity. From this construction a definition of asymptotic DSRness is put forward which is compatible with the correspondence principle of Rainbow gravity. Furthermore a result equating asymptotically flat space-times with asymptotically DSR spacetimes is presented.Comment: 11 page

Adsorption of pesticides onto activated carbons from wood composites

    Get PDF
A series of activated carbon was produced from particleboard and medium-density fibreboard monoliths, which are waste originated from the industry, and then characterized and evaluated for potential application for phenoxyacetic acids removals, such 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxy acetic acid (MCPA) and 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (diuron), from the liquid phase. All AC retain the shape of the precursor, and displays a microporous structure well-developed, reaching 0.58 cm 3 g -1. The adsorption isotherms for three pesticides were obtained in the optimal conditions and the AC with high superficial area and micropore volume exhibited better performance, allowing to state that, this AC could be a great substitute of those habitually used for this purpose. The pesticides adsorption data were linearized using the Langmuir and Freundlich equation, being the first a very good fit to the experimental data
