Landlord\u27s Retention of Power to Control Premises
Generally, the landlord is under an affirmative obligation to exercise ordinary care to keep those parts of the premises over which he has retained possession and control in a reasonably safe condition. The test of possession and control is whether or not the landlord has the power and the right to admit people to or exclude them from the premises
Final analysis and design of a thermal protection system for 8-foot HTST combustor
The cylindrical shell combustor with T-bar supports in the 8-foot HTST at the NASA-Langley Research Center encountered vibratory fatigue cracking over a period of 50-250 tunnel tests within a limited range of the required operating envelope. A preliminary design study provided several suitable thermal protection system designs for the combustor, one of which was a two-pass regenerative type air-cooled omega-shaped segment liner. A final design layout of the omega segment liner was prepared and analyzed for steady-state and transient conditions. The design of a support system for the fuel spray bar assembly was also included. Detail drawings suitable for fabrication purposes were also prepared. Liner design problems defined during the preliminary study included (1) the ingress of gas into the attachment bulb section of the omega segment, (2) the large thermal gradient along the leg of the omega bulb attachment section and, (3) the local peak metal temperature at the radius between the liner ID and the leg of the bulb attachment. These were resolved during the final design task. Analyses of the final design of the omega segment liner indicated that all design goals were met and the design provided the capability of operating over the required test envelope with a life expectancy substantially above the goal of 1500 cycles

The ring imaging Cherenkov detector for the BRAHMS experiment at RHIC
A ring imaging Cherenkov counter, to be read out by four 100-channel PMTs, is
a key element of the BRAHMS experiment. We report here the most recent results
obtained tested at the BNL AGS using several radiator gases, including the
heavy fluorocarbon C4F10. Ring radii were measured for different particles
(pions, muons, and electrons) for momenta ranging from 2 to 12 GeV/c employing
pure C4F10 as radiator.Comment: 3 pages 3 figure
Bland-Altman Plots for Evaluating Agreement Between Solid Tumor Measurements
Rationale and Objectives. Solid tumor measurements are regularly used in clinical trials of anticancer therapeutic agents and in clinical practice managing patients\u27 care. Consequently studies evaluating the reproducibility of solid tumor measurements are important as lack of reproducibility may directly affect patient management. The authors propose utilizing a modified Bland-Altman plot with a difference metric that lends itself naturally to this situation and facilitates interpretation. Materials and Methods. The modification to the Bland-Altman plot involves replacing the difference plotted on the vertical axis with the relative percent change (RC) between the two measurements. This quantity is the same one used in assessing tumor response to therapeutic agents and is very familiar to radiologists and clinicians working with cancer patients. The distribution of the RC is explored and revised equations for the limits of agreement (LoA) are presented. These methods are applied to positron emission tomography (PET) data studying two radiotracers. Results. The RC can be calculated separately for each lesion measured or at the patient level by summing over lesions within patient. In both cases, the distribution of the RC is highly skewed and is approximated by a negative shifted lognormal distribution. The standard equations for the 95% LoA assume the differences are approximately normally distributed and are not appropriate for the RC. Conclusions. The modified Bland-Altman plot with correctly calculated LoA can aid in evaluating agreement between solid tumor measurements
Hyperfine Structure Constants for Eu Isotopes: Is The Empirical Formula of HFS Anomaly Universal ?
We calculate the hyperfine structure constant for the Eu isotopes with shell
model wave functions. The calculated results are compared with those predicted
by the Moskowitz-Lombardi (M-L) empirical formula. It turns out that the two
approaches give the very different behaviors of the hfs constants in the
isotope dependence. This should be easily measured by experiment, which may
lead to the universality check of the M-L formula.Comment: 18 pages, Latex, two figure
