Optical frequency combs emerge as a promising technology that enables highly sensitive, near-real-time spectroscopy with a high resolution. The currently available comb generators are mostly based on bulky and high-cost femtosecond lasers for dense comb generation (line spacing in the range of 100 MHz to 1 GHz). However, their integrated and low-cost counterparts, which are integrated semiconductor mode-locked lasers, are limited by their large comb spacing, small number of lines and broad optical linewidth. In this study, we report a demonstration of a III-V-on-Si comb laser that can function as a compact, low-cost frequency comb generator after frequency stabilization. The use of low-loss passive silicon waveguides enables the integration of a long laser cavity, which enables the laser to be locked in the passive mode at a record-low 1 GHz repetition rate. The 12-nm 10-dB output optical spectrum and the notably small optical mode spacing results in a dense optical comb that consists of over 1400 equally spaced optical lines. The sub-kHz 10-dB radio frequency linewidth and the narrow longitudinal mode linewidth (<400 kHz) indicate notably stable mode-locking. Such integrated dense comb lasers are very promising, for example, for high-resolution and real-time spectroscopy applications

<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The glucocorticoid receptor gene (NR3C1) has been suggested as a candidate gene affecting juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) course and prognosis. The purpose of this study is to investigate the glucocorticoid receptor gene <it>Bcl</it>I polymorphism (rs41423247) in JIA patients, the gene's role in susceptibility to juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and its associations with JIA activity, course and bone mineralization.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>One hundred twenty-two Caucasian children with JIA and 143 healthy ethnically matched controls were studied. We checked markers of clinical and laboratory activity: morning stiffness, Ritchie Articular Index (RAI), swollen joint count (SJC), tender joint count (TJC), physician's visual analog scale (VAS), hemoglobin level (Hb), leukocyte count (L), platelet count (Pl), Westergren erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), albumin, DAS and DAS28. Bone mineralization was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) of lumbar spine L1-L4. Assessments of bone metabolism included osteocalcin, C-terminal telopeptide (CTT), parathyroid hormone (PTH), total and ionized calcium, inorganic phosphate and total alkaline phosphatase (TAP). <it>Bcl</it>I polymorphism was genotyped by polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>No association was observed between glucocorticoid receptor gene polymorphism and the presence or absence of JIA. In girls with JIA, the presence of the G allele was associated with an unfavorable arthritis course, a younger age of onset of arthritis (p = 0.0017), and higher inflammatory activity. The higher inflammatory activity was demonstrated by the following: increased time of morning stiffness (p = 0.02), VAS (p = 0.014), RAI (p = 0.048), DAS (p = 0.035), DAS28 (p = 0.05), Pl (p = 0.003), L (p = 0.046), CRP (p = 0.01). In addition, these patients had bone metabolism disturbances as follows: decreased BA (p = 0.0001), BMC (p = 0.00007), BMD (0.005) and Z score (p = 0.002); and higher levels of osteocalcin (p = 0.03), CTT (p = 0.036), TAP activity (p = 0.01) and ionized calcium (p = 0.017). In boys with JIA, no significant differences were observed related to the polymorphic alleles or genotypes.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>We suggest that G allele and the GG genotype of the glucocorticoid receptor gene <it>Bcl</it>I polymorphism contribute to an unfavorable course and low bone mineral density in girls with JIA.</p

Agricultural land turnover in Ukraine: state, features and problems

    No full text
Purpose. The purpose of the article is to determine the state of agricultural land turnover in Ukraine after the lifting of the moratorium, its features and institutional problems that arose in the process of market turnover of land plots of owners of land shares. Methodology / approach. In the process of research, the authors used the following methods based on the dialectical method of cognition: abstract-logical – in the systematization of scientific publications devoted to the issue of the turnover of agricultural land, its state, features and problems that arose in the process of opening the market for the turnover of land plots of owners of land shares; analysis, synthesis, comparison – when analyzing and comparing the number of transactions with land plots over a certain period of time (sale of land plots by legal entities and citizens, inheritance, etc.), prices and areas of transactions; method of generalization – when forming theoretical generalizations and conclusions. In the process of work, official data of the State Service of Ukraine on Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre were used, namely: to display real quantitative and value (price) indicators of the state of agricultural land turnover in Ukraine. Results. According to the results of the study of the state, features and problems of the agricultural land turnover in Ukraine, it was established that such indicators as the number of transactions with land plots for a certain period of time, the price and the area of transactions are usually analyzed. It is established that there is no correlation between the average price of 1 hectare of land and the number of land plots and their size, which is due to the fact that the plots were sold at a price that was almost equivalent to the normative monetary value. The given rating of the activity of the agricultural land turnover shows that the data in the regional section are quite variegated. It is established that the prices for land plots do not fully reflect the ratio of supply and demand, and the implementation of transactions with land plots in the process of turnover creates an even greater parcelization of land use. In addition, on the example of the analysis of the transactions of the Uzyn Territorial Community of the Kyiv oblast, it was confirmed that the sale price of agricultural plots allocated in kind (on the spot) to the owners of land shares is almost equal to their normative monetary value. The analysis of the areas of land plots acquired by individuals and legal entities showed non-compliance with legal regulations. In particular, for individuals, the area of purchased plots exceeds the norm by 15–95 times and for legal entities – by 10–50 times. Originality / scientific novelty. The originality of the research lies in the fact that the above analysis of the activity rating of agricultural land turnover made it possible to ascertain the fact that the prices of land plots are not determined by the ratio of supply and demand, but are artificially formed at the level of the normative monetary valuation of lands. It is established that carrying out transactions with land plots in the process of turnover does not contribute to the rationalization of land use by agricultural commodity producers, but creates an even greater parcelization of land use. The study of interdependence confirmed the absence of a relationship between the average price of 1 ha and the number of sold land plots (r = 0.027) and their size (r = -0.407). Practical value / implications. The main results of the study can be used as an information foundation for solving the basic institutional problems of the agricultural land turnover in Ukraine after the six-month moratorium is lifted; to take appropriate measures to improve the gaps in the legislation in the context of the purchase of land plots in the “same hands” and to strengthen the requirements for experts to justify the market value of land plots in accordance with the current methodology

    No full text
In this paper we present an overview of results obtained with passively mode-locked lasers fabricated in standard InP active-passive integration platforms. The platforms allow to combine various components such as semiconductor optical amplifiers, passive waveguides, on-chip mirrors, tunable distributed Bragg reflector gratings and phase shifters on the same chip. In this paper we show how integration of these components inside the cavity allows to improve the performance of mode-locked lasers

The concept of an architectural solution for the service intended to build an enterprise strategy map

    No full text
The article examines an architectural solution of a software application for building an enterprise strategy map. It gives a short review of existing software products at the IT-market, which is used in strategic enterprise performance management. Much attention is dedicated to the separate stage of the development program formation, i.e. strategy map building. For building such a map it is proposed to formulate general enterprise strategic goals on the basis of an analysis of the development direction priorities and then check them for their feasibility. Next, the selected goals are decomposed into goals by the perspectives in accordance with the balanced storecard. The goals are analyzed for the impact of key success factors. Based on the success factors, bunch of strategic key performance indicators are formed. The paper examines problems that need to be solved at each stage of the map building, and proposes mathematical methods for their solving such as the analytic hierarchy process, the trajectory approach in conjunction with the system optimization and the cognitive analysis. The author suggests using service-oriented architecture for EPM-system implementation and microservice architecture for the implementation of the strategic map application. As result the study identifies four services that implement the following business functions: an identification of priority directions for the enterprise development and general strategic goals; a verification of the feasibility of common strategic goals and planned targets formation; a definition of the goals by the perspectives, KSF definition and building of the strategy map; a definition of KPI by the perspectives. The structure of the software application is presented as a component diagram
