Infra-red Divergences in Light-Front QED and Coherent State Basis

We present a next to leading order calculation of electron mass renormalization in Light-Front Quantum Electrodynamics (LFQED) using old-fashioned time ordered perturbation theory (TOPT). We show that the true infrared divergences in δm2\delta m^2 get canceled up to O(e4)O(e^4) if one uses coherent state basis instead of fock basis to calculate the transition matrix elements.Comment: 44 pages,11 figure

Study of the Blue Crab in Texas

Information on seasonal abundance, growth, movements and environmental relationships was used to study trends in the blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) population of Texas, while a survey of the commercial fishery was made to determine the size of the catch and market conditions

Studies of the Blue Crab in Texas

    Get PDF
Blue crab, Callinectes sapidus, populations were studied in eight coastal bays of Texas and in the Gulf near Bolivar Peninsula. In 1966, young crabs were more abundant in Aransas Bay and the upper Laguna Madre than at any time since 1962. Observable abundance changes were not apparent in other bays sampled. Galveston Bay fishermen produced 50% of the commercial blue crab catch. Total landings decreased 24% from 1965. Spawning and seasonal occurrence is discussed

Population Studies of the Blue Crabs of the Galveston Bay System - Studies of the Blue Crab Populations of the Texas Coast

Abundance peaks of small blue crabs, Callinectes sapidus, were found in the samples in February, July, and December. Rough estimates of crab growth were made by tracing modal size progressions based on 60-foot seine data. Crab landings during 1964 were 91 per cent higher than those reported in 1963. Tagging studies are discussed and recommendations for improving the sampling program are offered

Livestock disease resilience: from individual to herd level

    Get PDF
Infectious diseases are a major threat to the sustainable production of high-producing animals. Control efforts, such as vaccination or breeding approaches often target improvements to individual resilience to infections, i.e., they strengthen an animal’s ability to cope with infection, rather than preventing infection per se. There is increasing evidence for the contribution of non-clinical carriers (animals that become infected and are infectious but do not develop clinical signs) to the overall health and production of livestock populations for a wide range of infectious diseases. Therefore, we strongly advocate a shift of focus from increasing the disease resilience of individual animals to herd disease resilience as the appropriate target for sustainable disease control in livestock. Herd disease resilience not only captures the direct effects of vaccination or host genetics on the health and production performance of individuals but also the indirect effects on the environmental pathogen load that herd members are exposed to. For diseases primarily caused by infectious pathogens shed by herd members, these indirect effects on herd resilience are mediated both by individual susceptibility to infection and by characteristics (magnitude of infectiousness, duration of infectious period) that influence pathogen shedding from infected individuals. We review what is currently known about how vaccination and selective breeding affect herd disease resilience and its underlying components, and outline the changes required for improvement. To this purpose, we also seek to clarify and harmonise the terminology used in the different animal science disciplines to facilitate future collaborative approaches to infectious disease control in livestock

Characterization of Melt Infiltrated SiC/SiC Composite Combustor Liners Using Meso- and Micro-NDE Techniques

    Get PDF
Melt-infiltrated ceramic matrix composite SiC/SiC material systems are under development for use in combustor liners for low-emission advanced gas turbines. Uncertainty in repeatability of processing methods for these large components (33--76 cm diameter), and hence possible reduced reliability for the end user. This requires that appropriate test methods, at both meso- and micro-scale, be used to ensure that the liners are acceptable for use. Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods, if demonstrated to reliably detect changes caused by processing, would be of significant benefit to both manufacturer and end user. This paper describes the NDE methods and their applications in detecting a process upset in a melt-infiltrated 33 cm combustor liner and how high-resolution scanning electron microscopy was used to verify the NDE data

Genetic association of deleted in colorectal carcinoma variants with breast cancer risk: A case-control study.

Deleted in colorectal carcinoma (DCC), a netrin-1 dependence receptor, is correlated with cell progression, migration, and adhesion. Evidence indicated that DCC was frequently down-regulated in many cancers. However, the association of DCC with breast cancer remains uncertain. We conducted a case-control study to investigate the impact of three DCC gene variants (rs2229080, rs7504990, and rs4078288) on breast cancer susceptibility in Chinese women. This study included 560 breast cancer patients and 583 age-matched healthy controls from Northwest China. The three gene variants were genotyped via Sequenom MassARRAY. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were utilized to evaluate the associations. We found that individuals with the rs2229080 C/G, C/C, and C/G-CC genotypes had a higher breast cancer risk, and the minor allele C was associated with increased breast cancer risk in an allele model. We observed a significantly decreased breast cancer risk with the rs7504990 C/T, T/T, and C/T-T/T genotypes, and the minor allele T was protective against breast cancer in an allele model. In addition, rs2229080 was associated with the axillary lymph node (LN) metastasis status. An age-stratified analysis revealed an association between rs2229080 and reduced breast cancer risk among older patients (≥ 49 years). Furthermore, the haplotype analysis showed that the Crs2229080Crs7504990Ars4078288 haplotype was associated with a decreased breast cancer risk. However, the results indicated a lack of association between rs4078288 and breast cancer risk. These findings affirmed that rs2229080 and rs7504990 polymorphisms inDCC might be related with breast cancer susceptibility in Chinese women
