New breending objetives of Retinta Cattle Breed: genetic improvement of productivity and heat stress resistance traits by random regression and norm-reaction methodologies

Esta Tesis Doctoral ha tenido como objetivo el análisis de nuevos criterios de selección para el vacuno de carne relacionados con la productividad global de los reproductores y su grado de resistencia al estrés térmico. Para la realización de los trabajos incluidos en la presente Tesis Doctoral, se ha tomado como ejemplo de raza autóctona de aptitud cárnica, la raza Retinta, que se caracteriza por su rusticidad y su marcado carácter maternal. La Asociación Nacional de Criadores de Ganado Vacuno Selecto de Raza Retinta, nos ha facilitado la base de datos, con más de 25 años de información, y un número total de 294.977 registros, a partir de la cual se han desarrollado los distintos estudios. El sistema extensivo de producción de carne ha venido basando sus criterios de mejora en el crecimiento de los terneros. Pero ante la situación del mercado actual y su previsible evolución, hacen necesaria la mejora de otros caracteres con gran peso en la rentabilidad de las ganaderías, como son los relacionados con la longevidad productiva, la productividad global de las reproductoras, el control de la endogamia o la resistencia al estrés térmico.This PhD work has aimed at the analysis of new selection criteria for beef cattle related to the overall productivity of the breeding animals and their degree of resistance to thermal stress. To carry out the studies included in this PhD work, Retinta breed has been taken as an example of an autochthonous beef breed, which is characterized by its rusticity and a marked maternal character. The National Retinta Breeders Association has provided us with a database of more than 25 years of information and 294,977 records, from which the different studies have been carried out. The extensive system of meat production has been based its improvement criteria on the calf’s growth. However, considering the current market situation and its predictable evolution, it is necessary to improve other characteristics with great significance in the profitability of livestock, such as those related to productive longevity, the overall productivity of the cow, the inbreeding control or the resistance to thermal stress

Effects of Additives upon Percolation Temperature in AOT-Based Microemulsions

In the present review the percolative phenomena has been analyzed. Percolation is related to transport phenomena in microemulsions, in particular the electric charge transport. The influence of different additives upon electric percolation has been commented. The effects of the additives considered upon the microemulsion properties appear to come about through their association with the surfactant interface. The effects of these agents on the ease with which interdroplet channels allowing transfer of droplet contents are formed are not only responsible for their effects on percolation temperature, but also have serious implications for the rates of fast chemical reactions performed in microemulsions

Knowledge Management and Performance in Mexican Manufacturing Small Business

Knowledge management has been recently considered in business administration literature, as a new discipline that has made an important contribution to the development and implementation of business strategies in organizations. Likewise, it has been considered that businesses, regardless of their size, that have implemented knowledge management as another one of their strategies have obtained significant benefits, being a higher level of performance one of them. In this sense, this paper with a simple of 124 firms analyzes the existing relation between knowledge management and the performance of small business in Aguascalientes state (Mexico). The obtained results show that knowledge management has a significant positive relation in the performance level of the small business

A Model Oriented Approach for Managing Traceability of Biological Samples and Tests of Patients in Assisted Reproduction Clinics

Assisted reproduction has become a service that more and more people access. Current problems such as the delay in the age of motherhood, single-parent couples, etc. they have proliferated the options and the different treatments that are put at the service of society. A fundamental part of these processes lies in the work of laboratories, in the samples that are handled in clinical processes and then be implanted in future mothers. The management of the samples is a critical aspect that requires all the opportune mechanisms that guarantee the traceability of said samples, avoiding fatal errors. The correct identification, monitoring and control of them is a fundamental aspect and of special relevance. However, the systems currently offered to clinics present important problems. On the one hand, they offer little security, are very expensive or very independent of a specific provider, so that the traceability system cannot be connected to the hospital central management system, or they are very intrusive control systems in the daily work of the laboratory technicians. In this paper a software solution based on the definition of automatic models and protocols is proposed. Fabricación y caracterización de composites de ácido poliláctico reforzados con madera de olivo

En esta investigación se ha reforzado el biopolímero ácido poliláctico con madera de olivo obteniéndose un composite que mejora las propiedades y a la vez cumple con los requisitos medioambientales. El proceso ha consistido en un mezclado automático del PLA, fibra de madera y 10% de aditivo, seguido de un proceso de inyección. El porcentaje de fibra de madera de olivo adicionada han sido del 20% y se ha empleado madera sin tratar y tratada con álcali. Se han determinado las propiedades mecánicas y térmicas de los composites y se ha evaluado la influencia de la exposición ultravioleta en el comportamiento mecánico
