Poor prospects for avian biodiversity in amazonian oil palm

Expansion of oil palm plantations across the humid tropics has precipitated massive loss of tropical forest habitats and their associated speciose biotas. Oil palm plantation monocultures have been identified as an emerging threat to Amazonian biodiversity, but there are no quantitative studies exploring the impact of these plantations on the biome’s biota. Understanding these impacts is extremely important given the rapid projected expansion of oil palm cultivation in the basin. Here we investigate the biodiversity value of oil palm plantations in comparison with other dominant regional land-uses in Eastern Amazonia. We carried out bird surveys in oil palm plantations of varying ages, primary and secondary forests, and cattle pastures. We found that oil palm plantations retained impoverished avian communities with a similar species composition to pastures and agrarian land-uses and did not offer habitat for most forest-associated species, including restricted range species and species of conservation concern. On the other hand, the forests that the oil palm companies are legally obliged to protect hosted a relatively species-rich community including several globally-threatened bird species. We consider oil palm to be no less detrimental to regional biodiversity than other agricultural land-uses and that political pressure exerted by large landowners to allow oil palm to count as a substitute for native forest vegetation in private landholdings with forest restoration deficits would have dire consequences for regional biodiversity

As normas do Conselho Federal de Medicina preceituam que o médico não poderá deixar de preencher corretamente o prontuário médico. Essa observância é fundamental, pois sendo o atendimento prestado ao paciente uma ação multidisciplinar, todos os envolvidos ficarão informados sobre as condições clínicas, evolução, resultados de exames e procedimentos realizados nos pacientes. Sob o ponto de vista legal é um precioso instrumento, talvez o mais importante, em demandas judiciais, pois é a partir de sua análise que os peritos e julgadores colhem subsídios para a decisão judicial. Sob o ponto de vista de saúde pública, são nos prontuários médicos que residem os dados, permitindo os dados de prevalências e de incidências de determinadas doenças, permitindo assim, ações de prevenção e medidas de tratamento mais eficazes. Este trabalho tem como objetivo enfatizar a importância do cumprimento das normas e do correto preenchimento do prontuário médico, ressaltando suas implicações médico-legais, principalmente na prática da cirurgia colo-retal. Tais práticas não só representam a qualidade do trabalho profissional, mas permitem aos médicos dispor de um importante instrumento de defesa nas ações judiciais.<br>The norms of Federal Council of Medicine set down that the doctor cannot stop filling out the medical handbook correctly. That observance is fundamental, because being the service rendered the patient an action to multi-discipline, all involved they will be them informed about the clinical conditions, evolution, results of exams and procedures accomplished in the patients. Under the legal point of view it is a precious instrument, maybe the most important, in judicial demands, because it is starting from his/her analysis that the experts and judges pick subsidies for the judicial decision. Under the point of view of public health they are in the medical handbooks that the data live, al1owing the data of prevalences and of incidences certain diseases, allowing like this, prevention actions and more effective treatment measures. This work has as objective emphasizes the importance of the execution of the norms and of the correct completion of the medical handbook, emphasizing their forensic implications, main in the colon rectal surgery practice. Such practices not only they represent the quality of the professional work, but they allow to the doctors disposal of an important defense instrument in the lawsuits

Adolescência, álcool e drogas: uma revisão na perspectiva da promoção da saúde Adolescencia, alcohol y drogas: una reflexión en la perspectiva de la promoción de la salud Adolescence, alcohol and drugs: a reflection in the health promotion perspective

É durante a adolescência que o jovem forma sua personalidade e individualidade, e é também o período em que as drogas se fazem mais presentes. Com este estudo, objetivou-se desenvolver uma análise crítica sobre a necessidade de ações educativas na prevenção do uso de drogas entre adolescentes, verificando os fatores de risco a ele relacionados. Estudo de caráter reflexivo, no qual constatamos que a Segunda Conferência Internacional para a Promoção da Saúde foi pioneira ao introduzir o tema como prioritário na elaboração de políticas públicas. Estudos associam fatores socioeconômicos e envolvimento familiar como fatores de risco para o consumo de álcool e outras drogas. Entende-se que seja fundamental ajudá-los na vivência dessa fase de transição, destacando a família e a educação como primordiais em suas formações como sujeitos rumo à promoção da saúde.<br>En el período de adolescencia el joven forma su personalidad e individualidad y es una época en que las drogas están mas presentes. Con los objetivos de desarrollar un análisis crítico sobre la necesidad de acciones educativas en la prevención del uso de drogas entre ellos y verificar los factores de riesgo relacionados. El estudio reflexivo tuvo apoyo en la Segunda Conferencia Internacional para la Promoción de la Salud que indica la introducción del tema como prioridad en la planificación de las políticas públicas. Estudios asocian los factores sociales y económicos así como las relaciones familiares como factores de riesgo para el consumo de alcohol y otras drogas. Es fundamental ayudarlos, destacando la importancia de la familia y educación como de grande relevancia en sus vidas así como formar sujetos dirigidos a la promoción de la salud.<br>During the adolescence the young form their own personality and individuality, and this is the period that the drugs make it selves more present. This study objective to develop a critical analysis on the necessity of educative actions in the prevention of the drug's consumption between adolescents and being verified the risk factors related to them. This is a reflective article in which we evidenced that the Second International Conference for the Health Promotion was pioneering when introducing the subject as priority in the elaboration of public politics. Studies associate social and economics factors, and practical familiar as risk factors for the alcohol consumption and other drugs. It was understood that is basic to help them in the experience of this transition's phase, detaching family and education as primordial in their formations as citizens, in the route to the health promotion
