Intersection between class and gender and its effect on the quality of employment in Chile
Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus.
laboral chileno. This study explores the impact of the intersection between class and gender on the quality
of employment in Chile. The method used to measure social class position is based on the
work of Erik O. Wright, while, for the quality of employment, a multidimensional measurement
was used, including one index for objective working conditions and two indices for subjective
ones (motivation on the job and the perception of control over work processes). The results
demonstrate that class and gender give rise to signifcant differences in objective and
subjective job quality. However, the data also indicate that gender (more specifcally, the fact
of being female) does not necessarily amplify the class-based inequalities observed in the
labour market. Drawing on these fndings, a number of thoughts about how the class/gender
intersection operates in the Chilean labour market are shared in the fnal section of this studyhttp://hdl.handle.net/11362/4079
Exact solution of the three-boson problem at vanishing energy
A zero range approach is used to model resonant two-body interactions between
three identical bosons. A dimensionless phase parametrizes the three-body
boundary condition while the scattering length enters the Bethe-Peierls
boundary condition. The model is solved exactly at zero energy for any value of
the scattering length, positive or negative. From this solution, an analytical
expression for the rate of three-body recombination to the universal shallow
dimer is extracted.Comment: 12 page
How reliable are the statistics for the Stability and Growth Pact?
The aim of this paper is to assess the reliability of the government deficit and debt figures reported to the European Commission by Member States. Reliability is one of the several dimensions of quality in statistics; it refers to the magnitudes of data revisions after the publication of the first outcomes. The measurement of the data reliability and inference about potential future revisions are particularly relevant for fiscal surveillance in the EU since statistical institutes take a long time - usually four years - to provide final data, while the decisions on the Stability and Growth Pact context are taken on the basis of the first estimates available shortly after the end of each year. The paper shows that there are very significant differences in reliability among Member States and indicates the margins of uncertainty in relation to the most recent years' data. It also compares the reliability of deficit and debt figures; checks that the shift from ESA79 to ESA95 did not generally harm the reliability of data and suggests that the size of deficits may have an impact on the way statistical offices revise data.reliability, quality of statistics, Stability and Growth Pact, government deficit, Gordo Mora, Nogueira Martins
Tourism in Cuba Riding the Wave Toward Sustainable Prosperity
Tourism is booming n Cuba. Two big international shocks to the Cuban economy have contributed to this development. First, Cuba can no longer depend on its main international commercial partners —Venezuela, Brazil, China— to subsidize its faltering economy. The second shock was the December 2014 rapprochement and relaxation of restrictions on U.S. travel to the island. The number of U.S. visitors doubled in 2016; by 2030 the Cuban government expects to host in excess of 10 million tourists. Despite these projections, Cuba\u27s hospitality industry has increasingly lagged behind other countries in the region in the quality of its offerings and services.
Authors and experts assess the organizational structure and financial picture of the various players and offer policy options for Cuba to achieve its economic goals for the tourism sector and the country as a whole. They look at the role to be played by U.S. actors, including the government, to support that growth and also offer views on how the uncertainty of a new U.S. administration is affecting those expectations.https://digitalcommons.fiu.edu/cri_events/1346/thumbnail.jp
