The music industry is an interesting phenomenon. It is a world that exists on image--and everyone has a say. For that very reason, the music industry is no stranger to critics. At its heart, they are what the industry is all about. Critics are the driving force in the business--their written and verbal exchange of ideas predicts the rise and fall of stars. Critics come in all shapes and sizes--they are the everyday consumer, the media at large, the hopeful artist, the record company executive, the legal scholar, and even our nation\u27s government. This article will take you on a journey and show you what happens behind the scenes in the music industry. You will become a fly on the wall at a fictitious record company meeting where insiders are discussing the potential signing of a controversial artist, Sam Satyr. In this scenario, you will witness how the critics previously mentioned interact, and how their social and legal concerns are approached

University of Missouri-Columbia 2007.Dissertations, Academic -- University of Missouri--Columbia -- Animal sciences. This study looked at the efficacy of PG-600 and boar exposure to induce and maintain cycles. Gilts received one of four treatments: PG-600, weekday 10 min full physical contact boar exposure (BE), PG-600+BE, and neither PG-600 nor BE (control). PG-600 and PG-600+BE gilts had a higher percentage in estrus within seven d than the BE and control treatments. Eighty-five of 146 gilts in estrus within seven d returned to estrus 18 to 23 d later. Addition of daily boar exposure to PG-600 did not result in dramatic increase in proportion maintaining cycles and may not be warranted

What is the best approach to the evaluation of hirsutism?

    Get PDF
The evaluation of hirsutism should begin with a history and physical examination to identify signs and symptoms suggestive of diseases such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), hypothyroidism, hyperprolactinemia, hyperandrogenic insulin-resistant acanthosis nigricans (HAIR-AN) syndrome, androgenic tumors, Cushing's syndrome, or congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). Findings suggestive of these diseases include rapid or early-onset hirsutism, menstrual irregularities, hypertension, severe hirsutism, virilization, or pelvic masses (strength of recommendation [SOR]: B, based on a cohort study in a referral population). Hirsutism with unremarkable history and physical exam findings should be evaluated with a serum total testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) level (SOR: B, based on a cohort study in a referral population)

Impact of a Nutrition Intervention Program on the Growth and Nutritional Status of Nicaraguan Adolescent Girls

    Get PDF
This research examines the impact of a nutrition education intervention program on the nutritional status and knowledge of Nicaraguan adolescent girls. Anthropometric measurements, hemoglobin values, and data concerning nutritional knowledge were collected from adolescent girls living in Managua, Nicaragua. Using a pre-test/post-test design, data are compared prior to and after the nutrition intervention program. When using Mexican American reference data, statistically significant differences in height-for-age z-scores and weight-for-age z-scores were found when comparing the entire sample of baseline data with data collected after three years of the nutrition intervention program (p<0.05). Significant improvement was also found concerning the indicators of nutritional knowledge (p<0.05). However, hemoglobin data revealed a significant decrease which may be due to specific environmental factors and pubertal changes. This research has implications concerning the development of successful adolescent focused nutrition intervention programs in Nicaragua, and examines the possibility that catch-up growth occurs during adolescence

Master Teachers as Instructional Leaders: An Instrumental Case Study

    Get PDF
The purpose of this instrumental case study was to understand the role of the master teacher as an instructional leader in South Carolina schools implementing the System for Teacher and Student Advancement, formerly known as the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP). This qualitative study sought to explain the role of the master teacher, how the master teacher assumes the role of an instructional leader, what support is provided by the master teacher, what issues master teachers face as instructional leaders as well as how the master teacher enhances the school environment. The focal participant in this study was a SC TAP master teacher with 12 years\u27 experience in this position. The main sources of data included reports, artifacts, and multiple interviews with the participant and stakeholders who observed the master teacher including teachers, principals, and state level employees. All data were analyzed through categorical aggregation and direct interpretation from which themes were formed. The themes that emerged were an overarching umbrella of support provided by the master teacher, the pedagogy necessary for the master teacher to embed authentic application of skills into the school environment, and the characteristics necessary for these to exist

Modelling Direct Messaging Networks with Multiple Recipients for Cyber Deception

Cyber deception is emerging as a promising approach to defending networks and systems against attackers and data thieves. However, despite being relatively cheap to deploy, the generation of realistic content at scale is very costly, due to the fact that rich, interactive deceptive technologies are largely hand-crafted. With recent improvements in Machine Learning, we now have the opportunity to bring scale and automation to the creation of realistic and enticing simulated content. In this work, we propose a framework to automate the generation of email and instant messaging-style group communications at scale. Such messaging platforms within organisations contain a lot of valuable information inside private communications and document attachments, making them an enticing target for an adversary. We address two key aspects of simulating this type of system: modelling when and with whom participants communicate, and generating topical, multi-party text to populate simulated conversation threads. We present the LogNormMix-Net Temporal Point Process as an approach to the first of these, building upon the intensity-free modeling approach of Shchur et al. to create a generative model for unicast and multi-cast communications. We demonstrate the use of fine-tuned, pre-trained language models to generate convincing multi-party conversation threads. A live email server is simulated by uniting our LogNormMix-Net TPP (to generate the communication timestamp, sender and recipients) with the language model, which generates the contents of the multi-party email threads. We evaluate the generated content with respect to a number of realism-based properties, that encourage a model to learn to generate content that will engage the attention of an adversary to achieve a deception outcome

Description and specifications of a new and distinct wine grape cultivar which originated from a hand-pollinated cross of `Cayuga White` (Vitis labrusca L. by V. vinifera L., developed by the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station, Geneva, N.Y.; female parent, non-patented) x A-1754 (non-patented, non-released breeding genotype; male parent). This new wine grape cultivar can be distinguished by its quality juice attributes for wine production with hardy and productive grapevines adapted to Arkansas and the Mid-South of the United States
