    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to test proprioception perception and compare between collegiate golfers and non-golfers using tilting platform. Sixteen male and fourteen female golfers and fifteen male and thirteen non-golfers were participated. All participants were performed perception test on the tilting platform. Frequency analysis and independent t-test were performed using SPSS 24.0. Alpha set at .05. Most participants were perceived from 1° to 2° of slopes and perceived left-right (target direction) slope than forward-backward slope. Repeated practice such as walking on the uneven ground or standing on sloped ground might help to improve proprioception perception. Further research using a tilting platform will be to develop the training program

The use of energy-saving devices is the most effective method for decreasing CO2 emissions, which is an increasingly concerning environmental issue. The asymmetric pre-swirl stator has been developed as an energy-saving device and has been successfully applied to various types of vessels. In the present study, a flexible material was applied to an asymmetric pre-swirl stator to determine the variation in the flow around stator and its efficiency. A fluid–structure interaction (FSI) analysis system was developed using the Star-CCM+ (fluid) and the Abaqus (structure). The proposed analysis system was validated by comparing the experimental results using a flexible plate in a flowing fluid. The flexible stator was applied to a 3,600 TEU KRISO Container Ship to determine the improvement in its performance compared to the previous optimum value achieved with a rigid stator. Although this application was conducted on a model scale and the deformation was small, the results of the flexible stator indicated the possibility of not only increasing the efficiency but also decreasing the vortex risk around stator blade

We investigated the effects of temperature and magnetic field on the electronic structure of hexagonal RMnO3 (R = Gd, Tb, Dy, and Ho) thin films using optical spectroscopy. As the magnetic ordering of the system was disturbed, a systematic change in the electronic structure was commonly identified in this series. The optical absorption peak near 1.7 eV showed an unexpectedly large shift of more than 150 meV from 300 K to 15 K, accompanied by an anomaly of the shift at the Neel temperature. The magnetic field dependent measurement clearly revealed a sizable shift of the corresponding peak when a high magnetic field was applied. Our findings indicated strong coupling between the magnetic ordering and the electronic structure in the multiferroic hexagonal RMnO3 compounds.Comment: 16 pages including 4 figure

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of gender and foot position on the acceleration patterns of the knee and hip joints during deep squat. Twenty-two male and 10 female collegiate students participated in this study. All the participants performed a deep squat two times in neutral foot position (NFP), with the foot rotated externally by 15° (ERFP). A wireless triaxial accelerometer was attached on the right-side knee and hip joints of each participant. Acceleration data generated in the anterior-posterior (AP), medio-lateral (ML), and superior-inferior (SI) directions during deep squat were collected through the attached acceleration sensor (2000Hz). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 24.0, and mixed analysis of variance (p \u3c 0.05) was used to identify the interaction and main effects of gender and foot positions. The acceleration patterns of the knee joint during deep squat according to gender indicated differences between the AP and ML directions. The acceleration motion of the hip joint under the ERFP condition indicated a difference in the SI direction

Analysis of benzo[c] phenanthridine alkaloids in Eschscholtzia californica cell culture using HPLC-DAD and HPLC-ESI-MS/MS

    Get PDF
Effective HPLC-DAD and HPLC-ESI-MS/MS methods have been developed for the analysis of eight benzo[c] phenanthridine alkaloids (sanguinarine, chelirubine, macarpine, chelerythrine, dihydrosanguinarine, dihydrochelirubine, dihydromacarpine and dihydrochelerythrine), which are important metabolites in Eschscholtzia californica cell culture. By adopting a ternary gradient pump system, the dihydro-form alkaloids hardly separable from each other could be successfully separated, and all the target alkaloids could be simultaneously quantified with the LOD values of 0.01-0.79 mu g/mL and the LOQ values of 0.03-3.59 mu g/mL. This HPLC-DAD method was further confirmed by HPLC-ESI-MS/MS system in multiple reaction monitoring mode. Each separated HPLC peak was identified as the target alkaloid, showing its relevant ionized molecule and selected fragment ion. By applying the established method, alkaloid production during the E. californica cell culture could be successfully monitored and some valuable information on its metabolism could be deduced.11Ysciescopu

In Africa, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported in Egypt on February 14, 2020. Since then, the number of cases has continued to  increase with Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Nigeria, Sudan, Angola, Tanzania, Ghana, and Kenya identified as vulnerable  countries. The present study aimed to: 1) identify differences in trust level of COVID-19 diagnosis, recent healthcare utilization experiences, and COVID-19-related knowledge, information, and prevention practices in South Korea, Ethiopia, and DRC; and 2) identify factors influencing trust level in healthcare facilities regarding COVID-19 diagnosis. The present study was cross-sectional. The questionnaire survey was conducted between May 1–14, 2020 using Google forms, and 748 respondents were included in the final analysis. The data collected were analyzed using ANOVA, post - hoc test, and binary logistic regression analysis. South Korea showed higher rate of practice for COVID-19 prevention such as hand washing, mask wearing, and etc. than Ethiopia and DRC. The results showed significant differences with the trust level being 3.129 times higher in respondents from DRC than those from Ethiopia (aOR=3.129, 95% CI: [1.884-5.196], p<.000) and 29.137 times higher in respondents from South Korean than those from Ethiopia (aOR=29.137, 95% CI: [13.869-61.210], p<.000). Gender, age, number of family members, healthcare utilization experience, information, and practice were significant variables. Health education expansion for information and practice about COVID-19 in Ethiopia and DRC is necessary. Electronic structures of hexagonal RMnO3 (R = Gd, Tb, Dy, and Ho) thin films

We investigated the electronic structure of multiferroic hexagonal RMnO3 (R = Gd, Tb, Dy, and Ho) thin films using both optical spectroscopy and first-principles calculations. Using artificially stabilized hexagonal RMnO3, we extended the optical spectroscopic studies on the hexagonal multiferroic manganite system. We observed two optical transitions located near 1.7 eV and 2.3 eV, in addition to the predominant absorption above 5 eV. With the help of first-principles calculations, we attribute the low-lying optical absorption peaks to inter-site transitions from the oxygen states hybridized strongly with different Mn orbital symmetries to the Mn 3d3z2-r2 state. As the ionic radius of the rare earth ion increased, the lowest peak showed a systematic increase in its peak position. We explained this systematic change in terms of a flattening of the MnO5 triangular bipyramid
