The entrepreneurial university as an engine for sustainable development
This study adopts a novel approach of conceptualising entrepreneurial universities through the lens of the UN higher education sustainability initiative (HESI). Transcending the narrow approach of the entrepreneurial universities as generating spin-offs, entrepreneurial universities are closely linked with the concept of sustainable development. Interpreting entrepreneurial universities as agents promoting economic, social and environmental change, the HESI can offer a useful framework for expanding the potential of entrepreneurial universities. This study reveals that whilst the majority of HESI signatories only commit to a limited number of sustainable development goals (SDGs), there is sufficient evidence of ‘best practices’ to regard the HESI as a useful and transformative framework for HEIs that can encourage innovation and entrepreneurship. To this extent, this paper aims to capture the interaction between entrepreneurial universities and the SDGs. However, the paper draws attention to the need for a holistic approach for HEIs that allows for more transdisciplinary thinking and collaboration. It is revealed that this can be challenging for HEIs.

Governance implications of the UN Higher Education Sustainability Initiative
The Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI, 2017a) states that higher education institutions (HEIs) are integrating the SDGs into sustainability strategies in the form of research, teaching, pedagogy, and campus practices, and to position HEIs as key drivers for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Concern has been raised (HESI, 2017b) as to the potential impact of HEIs in helping to achieve the SDGs; the challenges faced by HEIs with integrating the SDGs into curriculum and institutional strategies; the role of partnerships for HEIs among students, faculty, government, and various stakeholders; and how the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the SDGs, will transform the work of HEIs. Prior research has highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research and studies (e.g. Mader & Rammel, 2015); and more recently Rasche et al (2017) conceive that governance systems in general can serve to make, take, or break support for the SDGs. In fact, Velazquez et al., (2005) found many obstacles preventing the success of sustainability initiatives on campuses around the world. This paper reviews progress of a sample of 300+ HEIs that are signatories to the HESI. Findings reveal a difference between HEI governance that is ‘instrumental’ and governance that is ‘holistic’ in relation to sustainability with implications for achieving the SDGs in general and for academic-business partnerships in particular. Strong Correlation to Weak Correlation Phase Transition in Bilayer Quantum Hall Systems
At small layer separations, the ground state of a nu=1 bilayer quantum Hall
system exhibits spontaneous interlayer phase coherence and has a
charged-excitation gap E_g. The evolution of this state with increasing layer
separation d has been a matter of controversy. In this letter we report on
small system exact diagonalization calculations which suggest that a single
phase transition, likely of first order, separates coherent incompressible (E_g
>0) states with strong interlayer correlations from incoherent compressible
states with weak interlayer correlations. We find a dependence of the phase
boundary on d and interlayer tunneling amplitude that is in very good agreement

Bag Formation in Quantum Hall Ferromagnets
Charged skyrmions or spin-textures in the quantum Hall ferromagnet at filling
factor nu=1 are reinvestigated using the Hartree-Fock method in the lowest
Landau level approximation. It is shown that the single Slater determinant with
the minimum energy in the unit charge sector is always of the hedgehog form. It
is observed that the magnetization vector's length deviates locally from unity,
i.e. a bag is formed which accommodates the excess charge. In terms of a
gradient expansion for extended spin-textures a novel O(3) type of effective
action is presented, which takes bag formation into account.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figure
Ultrasound attenuation and a P-B-T phase diagram of superfluid 3He in 98% aerogel
Longitudinal sound attenuation measurements in superfluid 3He in 98% aerogel
were conducted at pressures between 14 and 33 bar and in magnetic fields up to
4.44 kG. The temperature dependence of the ultrasound attenuation in the A-like
phase was determined for the entire superfluid region exploiting the field
induced meta-stable A-like phase at the highest field. In the lower field, the
A-B transition in aerogel was identified by a smooth jump in attenuation on
both cooling and warming. Based on the transitions observed on warming, a phase
diagram as a function of pressure (P), temperature (T) and magnetic field (B)
is constructed. We find that the A-B phase boundary in aerogel recedes in a
drastically different manner than in bulk in response to an increasing magnetic

Anisotropic Transport of Quantum Hall Meron-Pair Excitations
Double-layer quantum Hall systems at total filling factor can
exhibit a commensurate-incommensurate phase transition driven by a magnetic
field oriented parallel to the layers. Within the commensurate
phase, the lowest charge excitations are believed to be linearly-confined Meron
pairs, which are energetically favored to align with . In order
to investigate this interesting object, we propose a gated double-layer Hall
bar experiment in which can be rotated with respect to the
direction of a constriction. We demonstrate the strong angle-dependent
transport due to the anisotropic nature of linearly-confined Meron pairs and

Non-commutative field theory approach to two-dimensional vortex liquid system
We investigate the non-commutative (NC) field theory approach to the vortex
liquid system restricted to the lowest Landau level (LLL) approximation. NC
field theory effectively takes care of the phase space reduction of the LLL
physics in a -product form and introduces a new gauge invariant form of
a quartic potential of the order parameter in the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) free
energy. This new quartic interaction coupling term has a non-trivial
equivalence relation with that obtained by Br\'ezin, Nelson and Thiaville in

Looking Back, Looking Forward: A Study Protocol for a Mixed-Methods Multiple-Case Study to Examine Improvement Sustainability of Large-Scale Initiatives in Tertiary Hospitals
Background Hospitals invest extensive resources in large-scale initiatives to improve patient safety and quality at an organizational level. However, initial success, if any, does not guarantee longer-term improvement. Empirical and theoretical knowledge that informs hospitals on how to attain sustained improvement from large-scale change is lacking. Aim The proposed study aims to examine improvement sustainability of two large-scale initiatives in an Australian tertiary hospital and translate the lessons into strategies for achieving sustained improvement from large-scale change in hospital settings. Design and Methods The study employs a single-site, multiple-case study design to evaluate the initiatives separately and comparatively using mixed methods. Semi-structured staff interviews will be conducted in stratified cohorts across the organizational hierarchy to capture different perspectives from various staff roles involved in the initiatives. The output and impact of the initiatives will be examined through organizational documents and relevant routinely collected organizational indicators. The obtained data will be analyzed thematically and statistically before being integrated for a synergic interpretation. Implications Capturing a comprehensive organizational view of large-scale change, the findings will have the potential to guide the practice and contribute to the theoretical understandings for achieving meaningful and longer-term organizational improvement in patient safety and quality
