It is now widely recognized that the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is due to the consumption of fossil fuels since the beginning of the 20th century. In this context, research on new energies and their development on a large scale is a priority. Hydrogen is a potential candidate to replace fossil fuels for transports. However the development of its use depends on a number of technological advances, among which its on-board storage is a major one. Three technologies have been considered for the on-board storage of hydrogen in transport vehicles: gaseous storage, liquid storage and solid storage. Each of these technologies has advantages and drawbacks that it is necessary to understand and to evaluate in order to orient the R&D efforts. This paper proposes an application of an MCDA technique to compare the performances of these three technologies. This work was conducted within the framework of the European research project "STORHY" (Hydrogen Storage Systems for Automotive Application)
