    We study the first-passage properties of a random walk in the unit interval in which the length of a single step is uniformly distributed over the finite range [-a,a].     Composition and Self-Adaptation of Service-Based Systems with Feature Models

    The adoption of mechanisms for reusing software in pervasive systems has not yet become standard practice. This is because the use of pre-existing software requires the selection, composition and adaptation of prefabricated software parts, as well as the management of some complex problems such as guaranteeing high levels of efficiency and safety in critical domains. In addition to the wide variety of services, pervasive systems are composed of many networked heterogeneous devices with embedded software. In this work, we promote the safe reuse of services in service-based systems using two complementary technologies, Service-Oriented Architecture and Software Product Lines. In order to do this, we extend both the service discovery and composition processes defined in the DAMASCo framework, which currently does not deal with the service variability that constitutes pervasive systems. We use feature models to represent the variability and to self-adapt the services during the composition in a safe way taking context changes into consideration.     KK-Masses in Dipole Deformed Field Theories

    We reconsider aspects of non-commutative dipole deformations of field theories. Among our findings there are hints to new phases with spontaneous breaking of translation invariance (stripe phases), similar to what happens in Moyal-deformed field theories. Furthermore, using zeta-function regularization, we calculate quantum corrections to KK-state masses. The corrections coming from non-planar diagrams show interesting but non-universal behaviour. Depending on the type of interaction the corrections can make the KK-states very heavy but also very light or even tachyonic.     Scaling and universality of critical fluctuations in granular gases

    The global energy fluctuations of a low density gas granular gas in the homogeneous cooling state near its clustering instability are studied by means of molecular dynamics simulations. The relative dispersion of the fluctuations is shown to exhibit a power-law divergent behavior. Moreover, the probability distribution of the fluctuations presents data collapse as the system approaches the instability, for different values of the inelasticity. The function describing the collapse turns out to be the same as the one found in several molecular equilibrium and non-equilibrium systems, except for the change in the sign of the fluctuations

    The goal of this article is to derive the Feynman rules involving charginos, neutralinos, double charged gauge bosons and sleptons in a 3-3-1 supersymmetric model.     Remark on the vectorlike nature of the electromagnetism and the electric charge quantization

    In this work we study the structure of the electromagnetic interactions and the electric charge quantization in gauge theories of electroweak interactions based on semi-simple groups. We show that in the standard model of the electroweak interactions the structure of the electromagnetic interactions is strongly correlated to the quantization pattern of the electric charges. We examine these two questions also in all possible chiral bilepton gauge models of the electroweak interactions. In all they we can explain the vectorlike nature of the electromagnetic interactions and the electric charge quantization together demanding nonvanishing fermion masses and the anomaly cancellations.Comment: 17 pages, latex, no figure

    Vortex structures in pure SU(3) lattice gauge theory

    The structures of confining vortices which underlie pure SU(3) Yang-Mills theory are studied by means of lattice gauge theory. Vortices and Z_3 monopoles are defined as dynamical degrees of freedom of the Z_3 gauge theory which emerges by center gauge fixing and by subsequent center projection. It is observed for the first time for the case of SU(3) that these degrees of freedom are sensible in the continuum limit: the planar vortex density and the monopole density properly scales with the lattice spacing. By contrast to earlier findings concerning the gauge group SU(2), the effective vortex theory only reproduces 62% of the full string tension. On the other hand, however, the removal of the vortices from the lattice configurations yields ensembles with vanishing string tension. SU(3) vortex matter which originates from Laplacian center gauge fixing is also discussed. Although these vortices recover the full string tension, they lack a direct interpretation as physical degrees of freedom in the continuum limit.Comment: 25 pages, 13 ps figures, improved presentation, results unchange
