    THE FUNCTIONAL ROLE OF MELATONIN AND KISSPEPTIN IN FISH REPRODUCTION

    Reproduction of fish generally governed by the counter interaction of some endogenous and exogenous cues like endocrine signals and one or more environmental factors such as photoperiod, temperature, rainfall, food availability, salinity etc. Study indicates that it depends on hypothalamo-hypophysis-gonadal axis. In gonad, gametogenesis is ordered by various hormones followed by their interactions with proper tissues leading to breed at a specific time of the year. Melatonin, a neuroendocrine hormone, has a significant physiological role in the regulation of seasonality and gonadal development of fish. On the other hand, receptor independent actions or free radical scavenging role of melatonin at different levels of hypothalamo-hypophysis-gonadal axis is not yet clear.  In recent years, focus has been given to study the of kisspeptin peptides potentiality on gonadal development especially during the transitional period of puberty and gonadal relapse. The relationship of kisspeptin and gonadotropin-releasing hormone is a good illustration of the kisspeptin system. The role of kisspeptin and melatonin in the reproduction of fish is an important subject of research.  The potency of kisspeptin and melatonin on reproductive maturation and gonadotropin release in response to environmental cues and the regulation of secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone by kisspeptin and melatonin are also the important objectives of the present review

    Optimization of process parameters of TIG welding of duplex stainless steel without filler rod by grey-Taguchi method

    Input parameters of welding have played an important role in producing the quality of welding joint. Welding quality has been improved using proper process parameters with sound knowledge base. Current, welding speed and the shielding gas flow rate have been used as the most important influencing parameters of Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding on Duplex Stainless Steel (DSS). In the present work, multi-objective optimization of TIG welding process parameters of Duplex Stainless Steel - ASTM/UNS 2205 has been determined. These welding process parameters have been optimized to achieve the required quality of DSS welding joints. The quality of the TIG welding on DSS has been evaluated in term of tensile test. The grey-based Taguchi technique has been used to solve this multi- optimization problem. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) has been applied to evaluate the significanc e of the individual factors on desired results which are ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and percentage of elongation. Additional confirmatory experiment has been done to verify the optimal results. The application possibilities of the grey-based Taguchi method for incessant development of welding quality of DSS in many fields, like chemical industries, oil refineries, gas manufacturing industries etc. have been shown by this work

    Electrocardiogram of Clinically Healthy Mithun (Bos frontalis): Variation among Strains

    A study was conducted to establish the normal electrocardiogram in four different genetic strains of mithun (Bos frontalis). Electrocardiography, cardiac electrical axis, heart rate, rectal temperature and respiration rate were recorded in a total of 32 adult male mithun of four strains (n = 8 each). It was found that the respiration and heart rates were higher (P < .05) in Manipur than other three strains. Amplitude (P < .05) and duration of P wave and QRS complex differed (P < .01) among the strains. Mizoram strain had the highest amplitude and duration of P wave and QRS complex. On the other hand, higher (P < .05) amplitude and duration of T wave were recorded in Arunachalee and Mizoram strains. The mean electrical axis of QRS complex that were recorded for Arunachalee and Manipur strains were similar to that reported for other bovine species; whereas the electrical axis of QRS for Nagamese and Mizoram strains were more close to feline and caprine species, respectively. In conclusion, electrocardiogram of mithun revealed that the amplitude and duration of P wave, QRS complex and T wave were different among four different genetic strains of mithun and the electrical axis of QRS complex for Nagamese and Mizoram mithuns are dissimilar to bovine species

    Insertion of acetonitrile in the exocyclic NH2 group of the thiazole unit of 2-amino-4-(2-pyridyl)thiazole (HL) in the presence of copper chloride results in the formation of the monomeric amidine complex [Cu{LC(Me)double bondNH)}Cl2] (1). The same reaction of HL and copper(II) perchlorate yields the complex [Cu(HL)2](ClO4)2 (2), without acetonitrile insertion. However, the presence of a spacer donor, e.g. pyrazine, in the reaction medium results in the formation of a dinuclear amidine derivative, [(ClO4){LC(Me)double bondNH}Cu(μ-pyrazine)Cu{LC(Me)double bondNH}(ClO4)] (ClO4)2 (3). Complexes 1 and 3 are the first examples of copper assisted iminoacylation of 2-amino pyridylthiazole derivatives, confirming a nitrile to amidine transformation. The new complexes were characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography, cyclic voltammetry and a DFT study. The complexes have a potential cytotoxic effect in human monocytic cells (U937) with IC50 values ranging from 0.84 to 4.5 μM. Significant necrotic activities are ascertained by a lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme release assay. The interaction with calf thymus (CT) DNA shows the binding constant (Kb) values are ∼104 M−1. The chemical nuclease activity of 1, 2 and 3 result in 65, 99 and 80% relaxation of supercoiled DNA at 10 μM in the presence of glutathione (GSH, 1 mM), respectively. The study with radical scavengers proved that a hydroxyl or singlet oxygen-like species is responsible for the DNA degradation.publishe
