AER Neuro-Inspired interface to Anthropomorphic Robotic Hand

    Get PDF
Address-Event-Representation (AER) is a communication protocol for transferring asynchronous events between VLSI chips, originally developed for neuro-inspired processing systems (for example, image processing). Such systems may consist of a complicated hierarchical structure with many chips that transmit data among them in real time, while performing some processing (for example, convolutions). The information transmitted is a sequence of spikes coded using high speed digital buses. These multi-layer and multi-chip AER systems perform actually not only image processing, but also audio processing, filtering, learning, locomotion, etc. This paper present an AER interface for controlling an anthropomorphic robotic hand with a neuro-inspired system.Unión Europea IST-2001-34124 (CAVIAR)Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología TIC-2003-08164-C03-02Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología TIC2000-0406-P4- 0

A Large Strains Finite Element Multiscale Approach

    Get PDF
A novel formulation for multiscale finite element analysis of multi-phase solids undergoing large strains is proposed in this paper. Within the described homogenization technique no constitutive assumptions are made at the macrolevel. A crucial aspects of the approach is the modelling of antiperiodic traction on the boundary of the representative volume element, condensation technique and the formulation performed on a deformation-driven context whereby the macroscopic deformation gradient is prescribed. Numerical tests on solids with voids demonstrated the robustness of the technique

A bibliometric analysis of the presence of finances in high-impact tourism journals

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to observe the presence of financial research applied to tourism during the 1995–2012 period. The Scopus database has been used for tourism journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports and the Mendeley reference manager was used to manage the results. Two hundred and fifty-two articles were selected with basically financial content. The results reveal that in the majority of cases empirical research typology was used; the subject matter that aroused most interest was corporate finances and, within this, financial management, value creation, capital structure and investment decisions

Cultivation and anaerobic digestion of Scenedesmus spp. grown in a pilot-scale open raceway

    No full text
Digestibility of a micro-algal mixture was evaluated by mesophilic anaerobic digestion in continuously-stirred tank reactors. The culture consisted primarily of Scenedesmus spp. continuously cultivated over a 6-month period in a 100 m2 raceway reactor instrumented to record pH, dissolved oxygen and temperature. The raceway received supplementary carbon in the form of flue gas from a diesel boiler (10% CO2) injected into a 1-m deep sump to control pH in the range 7.8–8.0. Dilution was optimised to biomass productivity and gave values of 10–15 and 20–25 g total suspended solids (TSS) m? 2 day? 1 in winter (December–February) and spring (April–May), respectively. The culture for the anaerobic digestion trial was harvested in February by centrifugation to give an algal paste containing 4.3% volatile solids (VS). Semi-continuous digestion at organic loading rates of 2.00, 2.75 and 3.50 g VS l? 1 day? 1 gave volumetric biogas productions of ~ 0.66, ~ 0.83 and ~ 0.99 l l? 1 day? 1, respectively. Specific methane yield ranged from 0.13 to 0.14 l CH4 g? 1 VSadded with biogas methane content ~ 62%. Overall the digestion process was stable, but only ~ 30% VS destruction was achieved indicating low biodegradability, due to the short retention times and the recalcitrant nature of this type of biomas

Museum visitors’ heterogeneity and experience processing

    Get PDF
This research examines the relationships between affective and cognitive antecedents and consequences of satisfaction under a market heterogeneity approach. It includes co-creation of preparatory activities. The sample consisted of 276 museum visitors in London. Two analysis have been conducted: structural equation model and latent class path analysis. The paper contributes to the development of a theoretical framework for further understanding of service experience in which co-creation plays an important role. Two segments were identified: 1) emotional (with lower degree of co-creation, equally distributed by age and nationality); 2) rational (higher degree of co-creation, younger and domestic visitors). Our research shows significant differences between the two segments regarding variables such as satisfaction, loyalty, service experience, emotion, positive disconfirmation and willingness to pay more

Children’s narratives on migrant refugees: a practice of global citizenship

    Get PDF
Globalisation has brought about great social and economic impact, as well as great challenges. Major developments have taken place in the mobility of capital and, to a lesser extent, of goods; not so in the mobility of people seeking asylum due to persecution and war. This article approaches the phenomenon of migration, particularly of refugees, as learning content for early childhood. The research is presented from a qualitative approach based on the results of a project on this topic implemented in a rural school in Spain. The results of the data analysis reveal that children attribute external reasons, of survival, to the refugees’ forced departure from their country of origin. The children’s imaginary reproduces the social construction of adults on the status and situation of refugees, and they also show a critical attitude towards the violation of human rights and the abuse of fellow children. Finally, respect, cultural empathy and social commitment in the face of injustice are presented as fundamental values for education in global citizenship from the earliest stages of schooling

The influence of digital capabilities on customer orientation of service employees (COSE) and its consequences on customer satisfaction and e-WOM within Family Businesses

    Get PDF
Customer relations have become a key matter in services businesses daily activities. Due to the intangibility of services, the employee service performance is what customers perceive as the reflection of the service quality. Due to this fact, the customer orientation of front-line employees, primarily in services industry, plays a crucial role in getting positives/negatives results with regards to customer satisfaction. Customer orientation of service employees (COSE) is a key concept within marketing literature. It has been demonstrated by previous authors the positives effects that has in customer satisfaction and customer retention (Hennig-Thurau. 2004: Morales and Ruiz-Alba, 2018)

Singular open book structures from real mappings

We prove extensions of Milnor's theorem for germs with nonisolated singularity and use them to find new classes of genuine real analytic mappings ψ\psi with positive dimensional singular locus \Sing \psi \subset \psi^{-1}(0), for which the Milnor fibration exists and yields an open book structure with singular binding.Comment: more remark
