AbstractThis article presents the use of creative ideas in teaching Shariah Studies. Among the creative ideas implemented and may be utilised is the method of role playing, done by assigning topics to students which they would then act out. The study conducted a survey questionnaire using purposive sampling to 100 students registering for the subject Mabahith al-Hukm during early March 2011. From the research done, it has shown a promising outcome in the aspects of the students’ interests, reception and understanding on the subject learnt. This shows that such a method can be applied in all subjects, more so in Shariah Studies in institutions of higher education

This case study was made is to see clearly about the biodiesel processing steps and also the factor of low demand of biodiesel among Malaysian. In relation, this case study is not only focusing on biodiesel industry in Malaysia but also on global issue. Indeed, while the biodiesel existence, the issue like GST and advertising of biodiesel uses has being the problem of low demand of biodiesel use in Malaysia. However, biodiesel process is also the factor that cause low demand because the catalyst that too expensive in price and complicated structure. Result shows that global research stated the uses of biodiesel is above the usage of diesel. Moreover, biodiesel usage can give positive impact like decreasing natural resource such as diesel and petroleum, thus it also could stabilize the environment. This case study has been done in Sime Darby Biodiesel Sdn. Bhd. Carey Island Banting, Selangor

However, adaption of customer relationship in Malaysian SMEs has not been broadly explored. C-SRMP model for logistic service present the combination of financial strategy, location strategy, business process strategy, and technology strategy. Further study has important managerial implications as the findings will enable management of SMEs to understand progressive and highly varied C-SRMP practices and contextual factors that contribute to the SRMP as well as effective, efficient and innovative implementation

Antioxidative properties and proximate analysis of spent coffee ground (SCG) extracted using ultrasonic-methanol assisted technique as a potential functional food ingredient

    Get PDF
Spent coffee ground (SCG) produced in tons by restaurants and cafeterias and domestic consumers is a potentially good source of natural antioxidants because it contains substantial amounts of bioactive compounds. The purpose of this study was to identify the physicochemical and antioxidant properties of three different types of spent coffee ground (SCG), namely Robusta, Arabica and Liberica extracted using ultra-sonicmethanol assisted technique. DPPH, FTC, TBA, total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) were used to measure the antioxidant properties. Robusta SCG exhibited the highest DPPH inhibition 41.63±0.04%), FTC (60.42±0.03%) and TBA analysis (73.09±0.08%). The total phenolic compounds in the samples varied widely ranging from 18.94±0.06 to 26.23±0.86 mg GAE/g sample, with Robusta SCG showing the highest value among the three, while Arabica SCG depicted the highest amount total flavonoid content (47.62±0.05 to 56.20±0.08). A strong correlation between antioxidant activity and total phenolic content were observed in this study. Compared to Arabica and Liberica SCGs expended, Robusta SCG demonstrated a stronger beneficial effect against lipid peroxidation. This study reveals that SCGs can be regarded as a new useful source of natural antioxidant with a view to increasing the use of antioxidant synthetics by using the ingredient of agro-industrial residues in food production especially ingredients for functional food

‘Let’s Collaborate’: Malaysian TVET-Engineering Institution and Industry Partnership

Strategic partnerships are the most important element in the automotive industry. The interaction between two or more parties is important in pursuing the successful planning and implementation of an education and training system in producing a competent workforce. Malaysia is one country that has adopted Public Private Partnership (PPP) as a procurement technique for delivering public sector projects. PPP, taken in its broadest meaning, refers to any arrangement between the public and private sectors for the delivery of public services. However, previous studies indicated that the collaboration between training institutions and industry is still at a weak level. The major constraints were including the failure to understand the work culture of the organization, inconsistency of mission and vision of the organization, and weaknesses of the governance system. Therefore, this study aims to propose a model of TVET-Engineering Governance Structure in Collaboration of Malaysian TVET- Engineering Institution and industry partnership. In this case, data were collected from 115 technologists in three different fields involved mechanical, electric and electronic and civil in Malaysia. Then, the data were analysed using the PLS-SEM 3.3.9 software via the algorithm, bootstrapping and blindfolding method. Through the PLS-SEM approach, this study focuses on the analysis of (a) convergent validity and (b) discriminant validity in which these two validities have six analyses; (i) external loading, (ii) composite reliability, (iii) average variance extracted (AVE), (iv) Fornell-Larcker, (v) cross-loading, and (vi) Heterotrait-Monotrait Ratio (HTMT). Meanwhile, the structural model testing involves the analysis of (i) Multicollinearity (Inner VIF), (ii) Path Coefficient, (iii) R square (R2), (iv) size effect (f2), and (v) Predictive Relevance (Q2). At the end of the analysis, the model that has been developed is relevant to use because each phase meets the conditions that have been set in the PLS-SEM analysis. The result, the governance structure for TVET-Engineering for TVET-Engineering is important since it can contribute to intensifying the Malaysian TVET- Engineering Institution and industry partnership. TVET Institutions must play an important role in fulfilling the demands from the industry and developing innovative skills for students. Future research is suggested to test the model on a wider range of TVET respondents to see its appropriateness

Mak Nyahs in Malaysia: does HIV/AIDS knowledge really reduce HIV-related risk behaviours?

    Get PDF
Introduction. Male-to-female transgender individuals are known as mak nyahs in Malaysia. Akin to many other countries, mak nyahs face discriminations in securing proper employment, thus many end up in sex trade, exposing them to HIV-related high risk behaviours. This paper aims to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and risk behaviours in HIV/AIDS among mak nyahs in Malaysia. Method. Validated questionnaires in local language were used. Knowledge, attitude, and HIV-related risk behaviours were measured. With respondent-driven sampling method, 54 subjects participated in the survey. IBM SPSS was used for data analysis. Results. Majority of the subjects reported to have HIV-related sexual risk, although only a quarter were sex workers. Misconceptions still remained among the subjects. Inconsistent condom use was common. Adequate knowledge did result in better attitude towards HIV/AIDS. However, multiple regression analysis showed that subjects with higher knowledge in HIV/AIDS tend to have higher sexual risks (β = 0.320, p = 0.030). Conclusion. Educating the transgender community about HIV/AIDS does not seem to adequately reduce the HIV-related sexual risks. Other approaches, i.e. socio-cultural values and religious practices may be effective to instil higher levels of awareness and self-responsibility in this community to eliminate HIVrelated high risk behaviours
