Starfruit classification based on linear hue computation

    Get PDF
In this paper, a classification process to group starfruit into six maturity indices is proposed based on 1- dimensional color feature called hue, which is extracted from the starfruit image. As the original hue is quantified from the nonlinear transformation of the 3-dimensional Red, Green and Blue color, this paper proposes a linear hue transformation computation based on the 2 colors of Red and Green. The proposed hue computation leads to a reduced computational burden, less computational complexity and better class discriminant capability. The hue is then applied as the input for the maturity classification process. The classification process is based on the hypothesis that for each of the maturity index, certain area of the starfruit surface is supposed to have distinctive value of the hue. In this work, the said starfruit surface area is set as 70% of the total area and based on 600 samples, the proposed technique results in 93% classification accuracy

This study presents a method to enable the visually impaired Muslim to learn and read the Al-Quran using Braille Display with software help. The system reads the database which contains all verses of Al-Quran and user will need to select the verse and ayah to read. Besides that, this system can be used in a class to teach visually impaired students to learn Al-Quran. Every word or character typed by the instructor in the main Braille Panel will be transmitted to the sub Braille Panel that is connected to the main Braille Panel. The selected verse of Al-Quran and ayah will also generate an index before being transmitted to the Braille Panel. The index will be transmitted to the Braille Display for people to touch and read the display. A user friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) will be used to fulfill the ergonomics for the visually impaired user's physical capabilities. Several approaches are used to design and implement the interface for the visually impaired like speech or sound output and Braille display. The Braille codes can be displayed using the Braille panel. The design interface and structure of the system for the visually impaired users in learning Al-Quran is presented

Cognitive Factors and Gender Related to Self-reported Difficulties in Older Drivers

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to determine the association between selfreported driving difficulties among older drivers and scores on specific cognitive tests. A cross-sectional study of 38 car drivers (22 men and 16 women), aged 61- 81 was carried out. The participants were volunteers recruited from two senior universities and a university health program for older drivers, in the area of Lisbon, Portugal. A battery of visual, psychomotor and cognitive measures was undertaken with a questionnaire about driving difficulties in a sample of healthy older adults. Difficulties in driving were the dependent variable in this study, defined as any reported difficulty in ≥ 4 driving situations. After a multivariate analysis, the independent factors significantly associated with driving difficulties were divided attention subtest of UFOV® (p=0.013), number of trials with success in the Tower of London (p=0.015) and gender (p=0.021). The drivers that reported difficulties in ≥ 4 driving situations made significantly less trials with success in the Tower of London test, had lower performances in divided attention between central and peripheral targets, and were more frequently females. Results suggest that planning ability, divided visual attention and gender are three important factors to be considered in the analysis of driving difficulties. However, further investigation with additional cognitive tests and driving measures (staterecorded crashes, driving simulator and on-road driving performance) could be developed in order to understand the factors related to driving difficulties in healthy older drivers

    Is Halal Certification Process “Green”?

These days, the environmental perspective on operations is becoming more common. In fact, any effort in improving efficiency in the organization is closely related to sustainability of our environment. The Environmental Management System (EMS) certification such as ISO 14001 has been accepted as the world standard. In addition to these ISO standards, there are other certifications such as Halal certification. There is no research that investigates the relationship between Halal Certification process and its effect on our environment. Hence, our main research question is that is Halal Certification process can be considered as environmental friendly? In this paper, we argue that Halal Certification also contributes towards green initiatives. We used EDC-UUM as our case study. EDC-UUM is actively seeking the Halal certification from Malaysian authority agency or JAKIM. In this study, we assessed the perception of the EDC-UUM staff on the issue of going green. The findings and implications are discussed in the paper

The wording of theft in the Criminal Code (KUHP) is worded in the 2Nd Book of Chapter XXII on Crime against Property from Articles 362 to 367 of the Criminal Code, with the threats of apenalty depending on the type or criteria of a criminal act of theft committed. Article 362 of the Criminal Code provides that “Anyone who takes any goods, wholly or partly belongs to any other person, intending to possess the goods againts the rights, is punished for theft, by imprisonment, for a maximum of 5 years or a fine of up to IDR. 900,-”, whereas the theft in Islamic criminal law is a criminal act that is liable by hand-cutting, as what Allah all the mighty says in the Koran of verse (Al-Maidah:38), meaning “And women thief and men thieves, then cut of each hand”. The kinds of punishments in KUHP is more focusing on the threat of imprisonment and fine, while in Islamic criminal law it can be punished by cutting the hand of the perpetrators fulfilling the elements, and if the action is not fulfilling the elements of it, hence it will then punished by judges consideration. It is recommended that the imprisonment and fine ruled in KUHP should be incriminated as the punishment ruled in Article 362 of KUHP is relatively lenient compared to the punishment ruled in Islamic Criminal Law that is much more harsh. In addition, the enforcement towards theft can be enforced effectively as Aceh Province has imposed Sharia Law hence in the future it can impose the law in relation to criminal law as has been ruled in Koran verse: 38

Banda Aceh is a residential area that is most severely impacted by the earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004. Recently, ten years after the incident, many settlements were rebuilt. As a disaster-prone areas, Banda Aceh would need to be evaluated against the settlement area base on water salinity. The focus of the study centered on the application of geographic information systems in handling spatial data bearing capacity of the land into the concept of the FAO land suitability. To ensure the application works, it requires geospatial analysis compiled based on the salinity of the water variables that can be observed and measured for the residential requirements. The results showed that 86 percent (ordo S) suitable for residential areas and 14 per cent (ordo N) is not suitable.
