    Wavelet Based Multicarrier Modulation (MCM) Systems: PAPR Analysis

    Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a prominent system in transmitting multicarrier modulation (MCM) signals over selective fading channel. The system offers to attain a higher degree of bandwidth efficiency, higher data transmission, and robust to narrowband frequency interference. However, it incurs a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) where the signals work in the nonlinear region of the high-power amplifier (HPA) results in poor performance. Besides, an attractive dynamic wavelet analysis and its derivatives such as wavelet packet transform (WPT) demonstrates almost the same criteria as the OFDM in MCM system. Wavelet surpasses Fourier based analysis by inherent flexibility in terms of windows function for non-stationary signal. In wavelet-based MCM systems (wavelet OFDM (WOFDM) and Wavelet packet OFDM (WP-OFDM)), the constructed orthogonal modulation signals behaves similar to the fast Fourier transform (FFT) does in the conventional OFDM (C-OFDM) system. With no cyclic prefix (CP) need to be applied, these orthogonal signals hold higher bandwidth efficiency.     Interaction of Mixing Factors with Mechanical Properties of PP/ENR Blend via Response Surface Methodology

    This research is carried out to establish interaction between mixing parameters with mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) incorporated with epoxidized natural rubber (ENR). The blends of PP/ENR were prepared by melt compounding using an internal mixer and vulcanized through sulfur curing system. The experiment was designed using two-level factorial design via response surface methodology by Design Expert software. Mechanical testing such as tensile test and impact test were performed to characterize the properties of PP/ENR blends. It was clearly observed that high ENR to PP ratio increases the toughness and flexibility of the PP/ENR blends. In comparison to the pure PP, PP/ENR blend with 40% ENR showed improvement of elongation at break and impact strength up to 68% and 56%, respectively. In contrary, the tensile strength and hardness decreases as the amount of PP decreases. The changes were associated to the properties imparted by the elastic chains of cross-linked ENR. The obtained properties showed good correlation with fracture surfaces observed in microscopy analysis performed by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope at magnifications of 500 and 5000-x

    Polemics of the Islamic Caliphate: A View From Ali Abd. Al-Raziq

    While many Muslim sects are in agreement of the necessity of the Islamic Caliphate or Khilafah, modelled upon the ideal caliphate of the Prophet and the four rightly-guided caliphs, its necessity is sometimes completely denied. A very controversial view is that advanced by the Egyptian, Ali Abd. al-Raziq (1888-1966) in his treatise al-Islam wa Usul al-Hukm (Islam and the Principles of Government) published in 1925. This paper reviews the argument forwarded by Ali Abd. al-Raziq on the necessity of the Islamic Caliphate using a secondary data analysis and published materials written by scholars on this issue. It is found that the nature and some fundamental principles of the khilafah arose very early in Islam and has continued to provoke discussion into the modern world. Amongst Ali Abd. al-Raziq’s views were the claim that caliphate has no basis, whether in the Qur’an, the traditions or the consensus (ijmac) and the assertion of separation between religion and political power. His view, which remarks violent controversy in the modern Muslim world, is discussed throughout this paper. DOI: 10.5901/mjss.2015.v6n4s2p13

    An insight into the science of unstructured meshes in computer numerical simulation

    Computer numerical simulation is a beneficial tool for studying various domains of knowledge. Among the steps in the whole process of numerical simulation is the generation of unstructured meshes. Since the unstructured meshes are usually generated using automatic software, the fundamental knowledge of the unstructured meshes is often neglected. This paper highlighted some useful insights into the unstructured meshes in numerical simulation for several application domains, such as the radiative heat transfer problem, ocean modelling and biomedical engineering. It also reviewed some fundamental concepts and frameworks for element generation in producing unstructured meshes, particularly the Delaunay triangulation and advancing front techniques

    Elemen asas dalam pembelajaran koperatif adalah saling pergantungan positif, interaksi bersemuka, akauntabiliti individu, kemahiran koperatif dan pemprosesan kumpulan. Dalam kajian ini, penyelidik turut mengambil kira tiga elemen kemahiran generik iaitu; kemahiran komunikasi, kemahiran bekerja dalam kumpulan dan kemahiran penyelesaian masalah yang memenuhi elemen koperatif tersebut. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan di antara pembelajaran koperatif (kemahiran generik) dengan kemahiran menggunakan e-pembelajaran di kalangan pelajar yang mengambil subjek Telekomunikasi dan Rangkaian di Fakulti Pendidikan, UTM, Skudai, Johor. Di samping itu, kajian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti sejauh mana kemahiran berkomunikasi di kalangan pelajar, kerjasama pelajar dalam kumpulan, kebolehan pelajar dalam menyelesaikan masalah dan mengenalpasti sejauh mana kemahiran generik telah diaplikasikan kepada pelajar. Responden kajian ini adalah terdiri daripada 145 pelajar yang mengambil subjek Telekomunikasi dan Rangkaian bagi sesi 2006/2007. Instrumen kajian yang digunakan ialah borang soal selidik yang terdiri daripada 36 item soalan. Nilai kebolehpercayaan soal selidik adalah ? = 0.962. Penyelidik telah menggunakan perisian Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) versi 10.0 untuk menganalisis data. Dapatan kajian telah menunjukkan bahawa keseluruhan min berada pada tahap yang tinggi. Analisis korelasi telah dibuat dan ia menunjukkan bahawa terdapat hubungan di antara pembelajaran koperatif (kemahiran generik) dengan kemahiran menggunakan e-pembelajaran di kalangan pelajar

    Elemen-eleman asas dalm pembelajaran koperatif adalah kebergantungan positif (positive interdependence), interaksi bersemuka (face-to-face interaction), individual accountability, kemahiran koperatf (cooperative skill) and pemprosesan kumpulan (group processing) (Johnson & Johnson, 1991). Dalam kajian ini, tiga kemahiran generik yang telah dikenalpasti adalah kemahiran berkomunikasi, kemahiran bekerja dalam kumpulan, dan kebolehan penyelesaian masalah. Dengan merujuk Krejeie, R.V & Morgan, D.W (1970), seramai 145 reponden yang terdiri daripada pelajar yang mengambil subjek Telekomunikasi dan Rangkaian di Fakulti Pendidikan UTM untuk sesi 2005/2006 telah dipilih. Satu set soal selidik yang terdiri daripada 36 soalan telah digunakan. Objektif kajian ini adalah untuk (1) mengenalpasti kemahiran pelajar dalam berkomunikasi, bekerja dlam kumpulan dan menyelesaikan masalah, (2) mengenalpasti kemahiran generik yang dilaksanakan ke atas pelajar, dan (3) melihat hubungan di antara kemahiran menggunkan e-pembelajaran dan pembelajaran koperatif (kemahiran generik) di kalangan pelajar
